After earlier episode on Rocks i'm wondering why Rocks bother with having a request system?

While i appreciate its an auction and open to all, but if you request an item and there's only one item why is it aired?? IMHO it makes a farce of having the system in the first place. People should also be told on request that its the last in stock and to buy on CR if they want the item, that way people aren't left disappointed.

I personally will not request on Rocks in future, therefore not end up being disappointed. I also wouldn't bid on an item if i knew someone had requested it (especially if only one), just my opinion.

Apologies if anyone is offended, but felt the need to air my views.

I think you have a point about why do rockstv bother having a request system Tabs, i have read alot on this forum about lots of people being disappointed etc and it certainly doesn't seem to be working very well. Maybe they should just give it up as a bad idea that they tried but failed? If no one could put in requests, no one would get upset by it all.

They have just changed the request system this week so that only items which are actually in the studio can auctioned, even if it is the last one as people were getting fed up with last one only being available on CR site.

I wasnt aware of that Sazza, If i'd known the item i requested was last one and only available on CR i would have definately bought it from there no questions asked.

I did something similar the other month.

I logged on to the site but did not have the sound on, there was a lovely bracelet on that was perfect for my mum, I asked for the length in the chat then I turned the sound on for the response, as soon as they said the length the price went down so I snapped it, it was only after that that I was told in the chat that it was a request from another person and also the presenter said it was the last one in stock.

I did feel a little guilty for it but I wasn't to know that at the time, with only just coming onto the site in the few mins during the auction.

The person who told me it was a request was very nice and jokie about it but I really could have done with not being told that bit of info as it did put a downer on a bracelet that was perfect for my mum.

I have held back on someone else's request only for another non-requestee (yes - I know, I made up a word) to nab it, or for the auction to suddenly close unsold. Unless someone in chat says it's their request, I don't bother about it anymore. Just think to yourself, how many times you've gone back to a shop to buy something only to find none left, you don't blame the customers do you?

Argey xx

Thanks Argey and you are so right, when it happens in the shop you just say "darn it, I knew I should have got it last week" but I think with the Chat and the Requests its a lot more personnal and people can tell you straight away that it was a request for another person and that can make you feel guilty.

I must say though that when I have requested items I only ever have done it when I have had the time to sit at the comp and wait for it to come on or I will tell them that I only have, say, an hour to wait for it.

Think you misunderstood me Tabs, the last one is now available to be auctioned. This didn't use to be the case but as I said they changed the rules this week so that as long as an item is in the studio then it can be auctioned.

Thanks Sazza, I know that now, but at the time of request wasnt aware, or informed that it was the last one.

I personally like the requesting for items and most of the time have been told straight
away if they can or can't be auctioned. Maybe I have just been lucky! I make a list of items I want and when I am on a spending spree I go mad with the requests and make the most of 1 p&p :)

don't feel bad yazerose,
the way i see it is you wouldn't feel bad if you went into a shop and brought the last in stock of an item, and shopping on an internet site like rocks tv is just the same, youare still shopping. If the person who requested it really wanted it, then they could have snatched it first, or brought it from the coloured rocks site as soon as they saw it. You take a risk by putting in a request rather than just buying it off coloured rocks, as when its in an auction, theres always a risk you won't win it.
I hope your mum loves it :)

As it's an auction open to everyone if something is a request and there's only one of the item, it's the gamble the person requesting it takes for it to be shown. If I saw something I liked I'd snap it up as opposed to sitting back and letting another bidder get it regardless of who they were. Perhaps some people expect an item to go down to a ridiculous price before they bid, so end up losing it.

I was watching one day last week and Barry was showing a real nice ring which went for around £47. Apparently someone had put in a pre-bid for £15. Wth is that all about? You can't get a piece of decent junk jewellery for that half the time, yet some expect 9ct gold with a nice sized gem for a pittance.

Thats all fine if the person requesting knows there is only one left. Just my personal opinion.

It's happened to us all Tabs. If you remember in the beginning, when the auction format was different, lots of us were sniped at the last second, that's just the way it goes. I've requested items in the past only to miss out because of internet problems. I'm afraid that's the nature of the auction, and the only way to look at it that you win some and lose some. We've probably all done it unwittingly at some time or another.

I hadn't realised they'd changed the 'last one only available on CR website' this week, and if I've missed out I've just thought it wasn't meant to be, and invariably ended up with something I've preferred.

I'm not having a go, but I do think it's a bit unfair to make someone else feel rotten because they've got the same good taste as you :4:

Some of us oldies remember pieces going for £1 and even £0. The £15 bid on a gold (I presume) ring would not have been out of the question just 3/4 months ago, so perhaps people remember these and still try - it costs nothing after all and at that low bid doesn't push the price up for others. So no harm done then eh?

As said earlier i know its an auction and all is fair in that sense. However in my case earlier it was said clearly in chat that it was the last one (when the auction was started) and who's request it was. In such cases i personally would not go in for that piece...just my personal point of view. I've missed out on many pieces before to snipers also. My point of this thread was that Rocks current system dosent make it very fair on the requester/requestee when there is only one item left.

Thats the chance they take Yaz, I requested a pair of earrings once (not the last pair or anything) and someone else when he saw them also wanted them, we bid against each other until the price went to £232 and I stopped because they were £229 on the website so I bought them there but he apologised to me and I replied not to apologise, it was an auction and the highest bidder won but I also advised him to send them back and buy from the site lol

I didn't know about this last item thing though and can understand Tabs being annoyed as she'd have bought them had she known and not asked for them to be auctioned thus being thrust into the limlight for everyone else to bid as well. They may get sent back Tabs, keep checking :1:

Wouldn't know about that as I'm not a regular to Rocks, just look in there and if I see something I'll bid on it. I've personally never seen anything for £1 or zero, but then again I'm not watching daily.

Tabs I've posted in the chat all of once so like here haven't really formed friendships with any of the chatters/members as yet. Therefore if I seriously saw a piece I liked regardless of whether someone requested it and it was the last item, I'd bid on it. Wouldn't be anything personal or out of malice and if that other person got it first I'd think to myself "Good luck and wish you well to wear it."

Thanks Darls:) That is my main point/grudge/grumble with Rocks at the minute, if i'd been told "last one, buy on CR" i genuinely would have done that rather than risk missing out...even tho it went £20 cheaper via auction.
