Bored out of my brain with the usual Bank Holiday TV carp, I was channel hopping the jewellery channels and landed on Rocks & Co just in time to hear that smarmy fool Paul Bridges say "Michelle we couldn't process your order so if any with a VALID credit card wants to jump in it's yours"!!!!

He was selling an overpriced, under coloured, windowed as usual Paraiba Tourmaline at the time so nobody I know who's called Michelle will have even looked at it let alone try to buy it, but someone out there has been left black affronted by being publicly humiliated by that jumped up, excuse for a human being!! I personally think that it's absolutely disgusting and if I was Michelle I'd be suing!!

OMG that man shouldn't be allowed to present ANYTHING. How absolutely embarrasing for the poor lady. If she never buys from Rocks again, who could blame her. Mind you, by the sound of it she had a narrow escape from a horrible gemstone.

When will Rocks look at their presenting team and actually do something proactive - like get rid of 90% and start again?

Gems do this on high end pieces, only with a little more subtlety. The person is named in the usual way on bidding, then after closure they'll say that the piece is still available due to a problem with a credit card. I think it's disgraceful to do this, and does the channels no good as it only serves to make all customers angry as we can just imagine how that person must be feeling. I think this naming of everyone is an infringement on our privacy in any event, and not something where, once again, it is down to us to opt out rather than for them to gain permission.

Argey x

Good grief what a rude tactless twonk that bloke is. I hope that lady makes a formal complaint but I doubt Rocks & Co management would take any notice going by the general calibre of their presenters. With two obvious exceptions of course. :pPC:

I'd be mortified - completely unacceptable. He only had to say that the ring had become unexpectedly available again, if he had to say anything at all, but of course the best CS thing to do would have been to contact Michelle and try and sort it out with her, rather than announce publicly that she'd lost the item.

Would be a little more diplomatic of him not to mention any names, but then again nobody knows which Michelle (not a rare name) he was referring to so there's no way they can sue. They're not exactly divulging details of the person's name and address.

However perhaps the management can haul their presenters into the office and stress the fact that if a payment fails they should just say the item is still available to other buyers.

Mind you I don't hear what Paul Bridges says because I turn the volume down when he's presenting.

I heard that, too, and I thought it was decidedly off.

As Keisha says, Michelle is a common enough name, but would Paul Bridges have thought to be any more tactful if it had been a more unusual and identifiable name (like mine)?

Not sure I like my name being referred to as "common" :)

Paul Bridges is an idiot in any event so of course he wouldn't have thought twice if the name had been less common.

That poor woman must have been dying a thousand deaths - even though as you say there are many Michele's (including me) SHE will have known it was her.

LOL - Sorry, Meesh! :D I'm struggling for a synonym - is "commonplace" any better, or not really?!

You're quite right though - it was an awful thing to do to anyone. She must have been really embarrassed that her card didn't go through in the first place, without having the fact broadcast to the nation.

Try "popular" hun!!!
And what an embarrassing announcement to pull on a customer.

:18: No worries MM - wasn't really offended! :60:

Popular is a much better word though - thanks PQ!!!!!

I bought something from TJC a few weeks ago, gave them my card details only for them to tell me it had been refused. When I rang the CC company to find out why, they explained that they had been given the wrong number, that's why it was refused!!! Seems the person taking the order had transposed 2 of the digits!!!! Same thing could have happened in this instance, and poor Michelle was made to feel mortified!!!

May one interject here and suggest that perhaps "not unusual" are the words you are endeavouring to ascertain <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D4%252F4%255F13%255F18%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_13_18.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D4%252F4_13_18%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a>

So now I'm common and "not unusual" Argey????? Grrrrrrrrrrrr a girl can't win!

I want to be exclusive!

p.s. M4G - I can't believe that their CS did that! What numpties! I wonder how many others have had their CC refused due to ineptness.

Don't come much more commonerer than wot Maggie is <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D23%252F23%255F30%255F103%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_30_103.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D23%252F23_30_103%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> You've got "Michelle Ma Belle" and I've got "Maggie, Maggie May, they have taken her away"!

I agree pimms, all he needed to say, if he has to say something, is that the purchase wasn't completed, and the item was still available. No need at all to name anyone, and there is no excuse at all for saying what he did regarding her credit card! I hope she sues him!
