Just watched a bit of the lovely Angeline flogging the fairies. They were selling like hot cakes for some reason.

BUT IMAO Gems TV are now definitely away with the fairies!

Am I the only one who remembers Gems proud boast that they were a specialised jewelery channel? That they ONLY sell jewelery made of precious metal and set with real gems? That they would never sell other things?

Oh how are the mighty fallen!!

No you're not Catz - I said virtually the same word on another thread.

Gems TV = Gems, not old tat was how I used to see it - now they may as well call themsevles Tat TV!

Problem is - it ain't Gems that's away with the faeries - its us, for buying it. I watched for half an hour and the things really were flying out. What is it with us and faeries? Don't we know that faerie dust is just glitter? Very clever packaging technique though I have to say.

Corr blimey I dunno!

My thoughts entirely Argey, they were really flying, (well, not literally, they'd be far too heavy...) so you can't blame Gems for diversifying if it helps keep a luxury business afloat. :22:

I thought they were quite cute but expensive but then what do I know? They may look really good draped in Kirk's Folly Goodies or do you think the different faery dusts would act against each other... :33:

Could end up with a little explosion I suppose, or should I say faery farts?

i have over the years bought a lot of stuff from Gems beautiful jewellery and very good value but last year things seem to change for the worst i had rings sent with stones already missing, stones falling out within days ,the stuff used to have a years guarantee then you only had 6 months and had to pay for extra so then when i had a necklace that the large centre gem fell out after 9 months and was going to cost me £25 to have it reset i drew the line i havent bought from them in a long time yes they did say they only did jewellery with gems lets face it just look at the number of presenters that have left its like rats leaving a sinking ship it a shame i miss the old Gems TV

I'm sorry but I fail to see what connection this has with Gems; that's their name, they chose it! Frankly, I'm not surprised to see the desperation kicking in when they have royally p'd off so many of us loyal customers over the course of the last year. It can't just be us forum members who've fallen out of love with them, and I guess they need to diversify because those of us who used to throw them a few hundred pounds a month are now throwing it elsewhere thanks to their timed auctions, high prices, poor quality, dreadful CS etc etc etc.
You annoy your core customers at your peril.

As for the fairies - where's PPC's ROFL smilie when you need it?

Sadly I missed the fairies but I caught a bit of adina with the hidden treasures teddy bears tonight. She really must be a good actress, does she really think they are gorgeous? I guess there are people who buy that sort of stuff and like it, some of them were "fl;ying out" (tho not paddington for some reason) and I'm sure I'd love it too if I was 8 years old.
Clearly there's a demand for all this stuff but I thought it was called price drop tv. They may as well start selling towels with sequins on them and crystal-encrusted teapots. No doubt they will soon. However, while I can enjoy the brash selling techniques on the sit-up channels, I find the gems tv presenters' ability to change their tune overnight quite queasy-making. Ok, I knew deep down they were all wannabe actors who didn't really adore every bit of bling they sold, but you have to keep a bit of mystique. Not much parisienne chic in bailey bear, and I doubt if angelina jolie will be wearing the hidden pendant on the red carpet any time soon.

Perhaps they're aiming to be Ye Olde TV Gifte Shoppe. <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D36%252F36%255F1%255F78%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_78.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D36%252F36_1_78%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a>

I am almost speechless, but what really annoys me (I did say almost!) is that only this week Scott was spouting on about being a jewellery channel and only selling gems and not sheets blah di blah di blah..... Have to agree with Bunnytown - the obvious insincerity involved in selling these items has put me right off even the presenters I used to like

I absolutely agree. When they're all singing the same old song from the same old hymn sheet, it makes them all look ridiculous and untrustworthy. Whilst they're obviously now much less free than they were and are all simply doing as their told, you wonder to what level of indignities they are prepared to place themselves. As I believed at the time of his leaving, Derek was the only presenter with any real integrity. Even Angeline is doing it now, though she manages to do it with a little more charm.

Argey xx

I have to admit that all the new ranges have made gems tv a lot more interesting to watch of late. I'm not 100% convinced by the pilgrim range, it is slightly twee. However, watching drew with the hidden treasures tongiht was too much - a mouse with crystals on its blinging tail? No thank u! And then there was a paddington bear again - with his crystal-studded suitcase. Dunno bout anyone else, but I find it quite disturbing when they are all decapitated for the "treasure" inside. I can't watch them for more than a few minutes, I just hope they don't bring out a rat. Collectable? Let's see how it fares on trash in the attic and the antiques roadshow.
