Evening all - I am after a bit of advice. I bought a 1ct pave set blue diamond ring back in October last year. I sent it to Regency to get re-sized and have worn it about 4 times since then. This morning a stone fell out, so I phoned Rocks and was told that the warranty had now passed to Regency. So I phoned them and was told that the warranty was only 3 months (rather than the Rocks 6 months). Whilst I was on the phone to them another stone fell out! They advised me to send it back to them to get mended but I am going to have to pay for it (which I'm not happy about as I think it is shoddy workmanship). Have emailed Rocks again this evening, but was wondering has anyone else had similar problems with Regency?
Thanks
Jo

I think quite a few people have had probs with faulty items from rocks tv, stones falling out etc

Sorry Jo, I haven't had any issues with my resizing from Regency or my rings from Rocks.
Funnily enough though I did have a few problems with the same company's alter-ego Stanley's with some stuff I got from Gems TV a couple of years ago. Fortunately they fell apart on first wearing, so the length of warranty didn't come into it.
I do hope that someone sorts you out, though I fear they won't.
FYI I lost a stone from my own blue diamond ring about a year ago (bought from eBay, resized by Outwork). I had it replaced by Outwork (the company Gems now use) and they charged me £20 for stone plus re-setting it, sadly it was out of any warranty period.

How many sizes did you alter and did you go bigger or smaller?

Pave (depending on the setting) is one of the worst to re-size because the claws are tiny in the first instance, any bending/stretching of the shank puts pressure on these and they can move. The only safe way to have a pave ring re-sized is for a jeweller to meticulously check each pave claw after the process and re-tip, move, adjust as appropriate. For what Regency charge to re-size they will never pay this amount of attention to it. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for in the re-sizing arena.

Hopefully you'll get it fixed BUT you must insist that they check each claw now thoroughly before they send it back to you AND insist that the 3 month clock starts ticking again.

Thanks Meeshoo - it went up to an R which was shown to be OK on the Rocks website. I'm sure I will get it sorted but don't particularly want to pay for it as it is dodgy workmanship that screwed it up in the first place.

From an N???? OMG I hope not.

Unfortunately, a lot of the jewellery outlets will tell you something is re-sizeable when it really isn't. There have been a great many threads on this subject if you search the archives. Of course, all rings can be resized BUT for some designs, pave, bezel, channel setting etc., you need a skilled benchman if you go up or two by more than 1 size.

I hope you get this sorted. For future use, it might be worth you seeing if you have a local jewellers who specialise in repairs, resizes etc. They will guarantee their work for much longer than 3 months AND will tell you if you're going to jeopardise the setting by re-sizing.

I am having a ring made from an N to an S - I have had several done, via Regency - so far so good - unlike bracelets which I am beginning to feel are all DOOMED *g*

Sending a pearl one back tomorrow...

There are many designs that can be resized easily. However, there are many that can't. Resizing that far you need to make sure gold is being added not just the shank being stretched. I have no idea what Regency do - I believe there was a thread on this a while ago.

I'm glad you haven't had any issues but please bear in mind that it's impossible to go up that far with pave and channel setting without seriously affecting the integrity of the setting (and it may not be apparent immediately) unless the benchman has done a phenomenal job.

I bought a channel set, diamond eternity ring in 9 ct gold from RocksTv which, according to their website was resizeable by several sizes. Rather than sending it to Regency, I took it instead to my local (trusted) jeweller, a real craftsman who makes and repairs high end jewellery. I only wanted it reduced by one size, but he wouldn't touch it. He told me he couldn't say with any confidence that the stones would remain in situ, and that being 9ct made it even more likely that it would be damaged, due to the hardness of the metal.
I think the estimates of how many sizes a ring can be altered to is way too optimistic and they ought to be more honest about the risk of damage.

I bought a ring for my daughters Xmas from Gems in October, I sent it to Stanleys as it needed to be reduced by one size, when I got the ring back the gold band was mis-shapen, I returned the ring to Stanleys pointing out that the ring was perfect, unworn and brand new when I'd sent it to them so how did I get it returned to me in that state! When I got the ring returned to me again the gold was fine but there was 2 stones missing, it was a 3ct ring surrounded by 6 stones on each side.

The whole episode left me in a great deal of stress, & ruined my initial delight at purchasing a present (which was way over my budget) but I knew my daughter would love & I'd splashed out as she'd had a very difficult year. I now never send anything away to be re-sized etc & use a local jeweller, it costs more but the workmanship is always perfect.

I must say i have been very fortunate in that i have had a lot of rings resized by stanleys and regency same company really with no problems i go up to an s or in some cases a v .I choose what i buy carefully by ensuring there is a lot of gold in the ring in the first place and that its claw set i dont buy any bezel, pave or channel set if it needs resizing in fact for those type of settings i have bought some from qvc because i can buy the correct size.I think its been hinted that rocks may be doing more sizes but nothing confirmed yet.

Yep, from an N. I have never bought channel set or bezel set rings as I knew this issues with re-sizing these but didn't think about pave :2:

I will see if I have anything back from Rocks tonight - the more I hear though the less happy I am (as well as feeling slightly stupid and naive...)

Thanks guys

It is really disappointing that Regency/Stanley's went ahead and did the work, without contacting you to warn you of the potential problem. They are the experts and should surely have known this, and yet they were happy just to take your money. With the 30 day money back guarantee, you would have had plenty of time to get a refund. Now you are stuck with a ruined ring.

Please don't feel stupid or naive. Unless you've been buying jewellery for a while, how are you to know? The information given by all jewellery channels is less than accurate and at times thoroughly misleading. It's a learning curve I'm afraid and anybody who needs items resizing has unfortunately learned the hard way.

Good News!

I've had a call from the lovely Katherine who has spoken to Regency for me and I've been told to send it back in and they will sort it for me.
It's the first time I've had to get in touch with customer services and I have to say I am impressed.
Thanks Katherine!

Rocks TV have the most amazing customer services on the planet - as I'm sure everyone on this forum would agree! Glad they're sorting you out, Jo.
