In the middle of nowhere!!
today on gems lucy mentioned that she is engaged to a kiwi, would i be right in guessing that this is Drew? She also mentioned that Gems tv would now be advertising in certain areas across the country. I remember being told that they were so renowned, they did not have to rely on putting adverts into magazines/newspapers. I replied to one post who asked if gems were going bust, i said i very much doubt it; but gems after so many years of being on tv,they are now going to be advertising via the media, things cannot be that bad surely, i have previously stated my opinion regarding gems loosing their sparkle/gusto, so i wont bang on about that, but surely there are still staunch customers out there? whats happening? i am very confused :thinking2:

Why did she not say that she is engaged to Drew, just another case of treating the viewers like idiots IMVHO.

I have no idea why this channel is so coy about who are couples. Weird! Particularly since Scott and Fiona keep banging on about welcome to the family. Ridiculous notion, it's a SHOPPING CHANNEL.

Lucy mentions her engagement several times a day <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D36%252F36%255F11%255F6%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_6.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D36%252F36_11_6%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a>

As far as advertising goes, if they looked after their existing customers, and regained some of their former ethics and principles, such steps would not be necessary. Anyone watching for half an hour will already be tired of the same worn out phrases churned out by all presenters as they fast become just clones of one another, with little or no remaining dignity.

Argey xx

They spend far too much time telling me to move news stories which has nothing to do with them, I think they should start to look after their buisness and let me look after mine.

If I ran GemsTV I would get down on one knee and beg Steve Ashton to return to the company.

Perhaps their time would be better spent reading the forum, and here, here regarding Steve Ashton. xx

If anyone lived near me yesterday they would have though that we had appointed a new pope in Blackpool, the steam that was coming from my house.

What I do not understand is if they can notice so quickly a news story that they don't want in their section, why can they not reply to customers questions as fast?

LOL, Graham! Though I think that it's smoke for a new Pope..... steam just means his holiness is having a bath! :thinking2:
It must be very irritating for you..... you'd think they'd be pleased of ANY connection with a GOOD NEWS story, wouldn't you? I entirely take your point about the CS response time..... wonder how long it'll take for them to read this? :tongue2:

lucy ,,,,

thank you to you all for your comments. I agree with Mathilda, you would think that the powers that be of gems tv would think, oh another couple have met through us, lets shout it from the tree tops that gems towers is tops for presenter romance! or something like that. I agree with Graham, the day that they let Steve Ashton go was the worst mistake anyone there could have made. He was brillaint, and all the presenters came across as very happy, relaxed and content with their lot. Now i feel that the presenters are clinical. Once upon a time when Scott came on, you knew you were going to be in for some belly laughs, examples that come to my mind, amongst the many, are the maricota ambligonite dance! and his dressing up at Halloween; apart from the one time he mentioned wallpapering a room, i dont think i have heard him, or the others make much reference to a personal life. I remember the times when liv always used to drop in snippets of family life, about her son. Even Vicki bought in the photos for us to see. Yesterday Lucy was telling the audience that she and her partner were after a dog, and she asked for peoples ideas etc, it was all going along swimmingly, then when she came back on 2.30, she mentioned it again, had a laugh out loud moment, then sometime after that, they apparently had gremlins in the screen display, gems 1 changed to gems 2 for only a few moments, lucy comes back on, and there is no mention of the dog thing. I have even noticed that majestic rubies and tanzanite, are now back to the old AAA Tanzanite, and whatever the rubies are! I am still awaiting to see that special piece that shouts out my name - as yet i havent, also they seem to have drop those information featurettes about their workers in Thailand, they would always show 3 or 4 clips during the day, and if you got up earlier than 7.30 am it was always Matt going on about Zircon being a real gem a cubic zirconia being man made! There i have gone on too long. Now when i watch i feel an outsider, it used to feel comfy and familiar; too many changes have happened too quickly; its a pity things cannot return to how they were - but thats life, i suppose, or me just being a whinge bag lol. Thanks for reading this epic, hope you are all in fine fettle :flower: x

Just adding my two pennies here ...............

I am priviledged to call Steve Ashton a friend. It was a very sad day when he left GemsTV. When he was at GemsTV I bought more than I ever should and, sometimes on his recommendation, got things I wouldn't have otherwise. He's a great guy and would go the extra mile for any customer irrespective of whether they were spending £20 or £2,000.

I know it's not easy to turn the clock back - and I'm not sure whether Steve would want to - but as a viewer (almost ex-viewer) of GemsTV, I miss him and would love to see him back on screen again.

Well, AMEN to that, Meeshoo..... I suspect that most of us feel exactly the same about Steve and his attention to detail with helping us ......plus, of course, the fact that he is simply a really friendly, pleasant person! Characteristics that are worth a very great deal in my book, to be sure!

To be honest I think that Steve deserves much better than Gems TV as it stands. I would hate to see him have to conform to a hard sell, it was his free spirit and spontaneity that made him such fun to watch. I hope he's happy where he is but I still think he's a great loss to Shopping Telly. :spider:

If we all put a fiver in the kitty do you think we could buy them out
then we could go back to the good old days :wonder2:

Back to the original theme of this thread...Does anyone know who Lucy's Fiance is? I would like to send him my sympathy!....

Ditto all previous comments regarding Steve A....Gems biggest loss imo.

Drew - poor soul!

I dont BElieve it! lol, channel hopping today, as you do, flicked over to gems, and Scott was presenting, he mentioned about all the lovely baby things he and his "girlfriend" had been sent for their baby boy. I read in a thread about is Fiona pregnant, at it establishes the fact that she and scott are an item. I just do not understand the big secrecy that is going on, i mean why cant they mention each other, we all know Rod and Lynne are married, and also Nick and Angeline, so why does Scott refer to Fiona as his girlfriend, and not just come out with it; and ditto for Lucy - or is it that the bosses of gems towers think that we shall be wearing widows weeds and ashes in mourning, that Scott and Drew, have partners? or Lucy and Fiona are taken?some how, this reminds me a bit of music celebrity managers , back in the 70s and 80s (and probably earlier than that), they did not like the younger fans knowing certain pop stars were married! perhaps that is the case, but it bothers me not; i really do not care who is seeing who; if they could be more honest and open about it, it would give gemstv a whole new comfy cosy feel to it - their bosses have let a good thing slip through their fingers! I mean if you get a job as a presenter at Gems, you wouldnt have to rely on cupid and fate, would you?

Also do you remember when we used to get those little magazines sent with the parcels? I notice the new set includes, new music, (reminds me of being in a little chef ! lol) new colours and flowers, which change every few days or so, the last arrangement had pineapples in it! very funky, but gems 2 seems to have been overlooked  xx

Crackers - the secrecy thing just draws attention to it. Even the marriages aren't acknowledged properly. Great when the presenters keep saying "welcome to the family", an expression I loathe. I've got my own thank you very much, and in any event I wouldn't want to join one where relationships cannot be acknowledged. I don't want to know the in s and outs of their personal lives, just for them to be relaxed about it. It looks likely to be company policy rather than personal choice, and must make things very difficult. xx
