Rae - on now. Selling loose gemstones and calling them "solitaires". No dimensions of gemstones, no mention of treatment, no information at all. The gemstones (apart from one) stayed on the revolving platform thingy and at no point did she put them on her hand so we could get an idea of dimension OR see the gemstone properly. Awful. Dreadful. Dire.

We don't want a certificate flashed up to the camera that says "brown" tourmaline and then Rae tries to tell us "this is a RED rubellite". WHAT???????

She also said "I've got goosebumps at how low this has dropped to". Oh purlease. Make her stop. To top it all, if you don't look, you'd think it was Lucy. They sound exactly the same.

WHY aren't new presenters told how to sell gemstones? We want dimensions, we want goldweight, we want to know treatments, we want to know about the cut etc. Above all else, we'd quite like to see a good top down shot on the gemstone itself!

Earlier today there was a Scottish bloke who sounded like he was on nasal helium. His accent was so strong (nothing wrong with that) but coupled with the helium sound I just couldn't watch. Ali's brother me thinks!

Sorry, needed to have a Victor Meldrew moment!

Ah Meesh - I think the new presenters are excellently trained, in the new GemsTV stylee that is. "Get on, do a bit of acting, faint and sit there with your gob hanging open and then screech for all your worth. Don't worry though, I'll be in your ear telling you all exactly the same phrases to repeat over and over again". Now I know why they call 'em producers and not directors, because they "produce" a load of old s**te". xxx

Rae: "WOW, there's 1.5ct of diamonds and they are finery finery finery"

What? Oil refinery?

I can't watch any longer ........ over to TJC I go ........

Steel finery? xx Perhaps Yaz could turn it into a game for us. xx

one of the new girl presenters (could be Rae) keeps banging on about how their Lapidoodars are excellent stone cutters - and Liam likes his Tanzanite - R A R E, R A R E, R A R E!!! though all the new presenters are soft spoken and not excitable and shouty, give it time, it will be knocked out of them :cheeky: :flower: Lol

OOps a P.S. forgot to mention the phrase that vicki c is quite fond of using the term Uber, as in "we are going to do an uber, uber price on this one!" now, what i dont understand is, Uber is German, meaning By Way Of; just like we use the word Via. I went to Blackpool via Lytham. Just thought i would have my orange box moment! lol :flower: there i feel sooo much better now i have got that off me chest lol :cheeky:

Thanks PG - I'd always assumed it meant super as in Ubermensch (Superman for those that may be wondering). AB no, definately by way of, as the buses also used it xxx

I can't bear the thought of making the same/similar mistake as Vicki C <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D15%252F15%255F5%255F20%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_5_20.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D15%252F15_5_20%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xx

well at least its not as big a mistake as the one JF Kennedy made when he visited Berlin, he stood up and said to the crowd in German, Ich bin ein Berliner! In Germany a Berliner is a doughnut!! He was meant to say Ich Bin Berliner! Its true. lol. And i am not fluent in German, just the bits and bobs you need when you have to go shopping and go places, i lived there for 5 years, xxx

I've forgotten most of the German I learned at school, but I'm pretty certain that "uber" can also mean "over", or in this case "extra". I suppose she means an "extra-low price" - but surely no-one is still taken in by all this stuff (on all the channels) about breathtakingly amazingly low prices?

I think you're a bit harsh. I'm new to the forum, but not GTV. I've watched since it started. I've worked for a shopping channel before and if GTV is anything like where I worked, PRODUCERS give v. Strict guidelines on what you can and can't say.If you watched the loose gems hour, you will see that the new presenter did put the gems to her finger and read out the dimensions. I see from reading the forum meeshoo that you are seen as an expert in gemstones. What you want from a presentation and what other viewers want maybe very different. I like the new presenters. I thought she was very genuine in the loose gems hour. and, she doesn't sound like Lucy. Lucy is hyper all the time. Sorry to disagree with you in my first post, but, that's IMO. I like GTV. I like to be entertained while I shop. Keep up the good work Gems!

Miss Marcasite - welcome to the forum. Please excuse me asking but do you work for GemsTV now? I hope you don't take offence at the question but I've lost count of the number of times that somebody, with their first post, comes on to defend a presenter or channel and says that it/them are the best thing since sliced bread and when Graham looks into it, it's pretty clear that they work for the shopping channel in question!

I don't think I've been harsh at all. I'm a viewer. I want to know certain things when a presenter is showing a piece of jewellery or a gemstone. Rae picked up 2 of the gemstones. No more. She also gave incorrect information and only once or twice read out measurements. Measurements for loose gemstones are essential.

I'm glad you're entertained by GemsTV. Today I wasn't and the Scottish bloke had me turning off immediately. Whether I know about gemstones or not, I don't see how what I want from a presentation differs from what others want. If loose gemstones are being sold, you need to have accurate information to determine whether (a) it's a good deal and (b) how easy it will be to set. None of that information was forthcoming. If GemsTV expect people to pay thousands then they should explain why and what makes their product different - unless of course it's not!

Just had to turn Rae off, just the same as Lucy, Shout Shout Shout as if we are ****** idiots. When will GemsTV wake up and smell the coffee, viewers of Shopping Telly want to be entertained, as far as I am concerned if I am not being entertained I am not watching. Lucy, Rae and Vicki can shout as much as they want it will not make me buy, it will however make me flick to another channel.

Hello, Miss Marcasite, welcome to the Forum.
I am pleased that you are enjoying the GTV presentations, and since they are still in business, there must be others of your opinion, however, I find, as with other channels, too, that the level of presentation of the actual items (- leaving aside any considerations about screeching etc !) fall way below what I expect. For example, in addition to the points raised by Meeshoo about loose gemstones; for set items I want/need to know the gold weight, I NEED to see the size of a bale on a pendant, or how will I know if it will fit on a particular chain I may want to wear it with... I want to see the style and scale of a clasp on earrings, bracelets, necklaces. I need to know the exact length of a bracelet or necklace, otherwise it is of no use to me at all. For a ring, I want to see the profile, to see how high it raises from the finger, or if there are extra design details on it.... oftentimes the presenters manage to miss out such details altogether, sometimes just finding them at the last minute. These are all details that are sadly lacking in the presentations of most jewelery channels at the moment.
I remember in the "old days" when QVC would show you every detail of an item, so you really felt you were making an informed decision....now I am amazed at the number of people who , it seems, are happy to buy a bracelet not knowing how long it is, how it fastens..... why on earth would one do that? To me that is like walking into a shoe shop and saying, I want red shoes... I'll take those, without trying them on, even though I could!

I know there are money back guarantees, but I don't want to waste my time and money on returning something that I would never have bought if I had seen all the details... so, often I just don't buy ...... and I'm sure I'm not the only jewellery lover around here who has big spending habits that are being missed out on because of the problems we outline here.

Hi Miss Marcasite and welcome.

I'd be much happier if we saw more of the jewellery and less of the presenters (that is as they are now).

Dreadful's and unfair comment

Thanks for the welcome.

Think it's a bit sad though that becasue someone on here wants to defend a channel and its presenters, it's automatically thought that you'd work for the channel. No. I don't work for GemsTV. I share my first name with one of the presenters, and a runner who used to work on a production that I worked on for the BBC once went for an interview there as a floor manager, but that's about as close as it gets!

I take on board your comments re. what it is you look for when someone's presenting jewellery. I worked for a shopping channel in the US before I came back to the UK, and the producer guides the presenter. If that's the case here, maybe newer presenters to channels don't or haven't had the correct guidance???
All I'm saying is, that IMO, to say "Dreadful new presenters" is unfair. Their not dreadful at all. You just didn't like their presentation. There's an easy solution to that.

Once again, I will champion GTV. I've bought from them a lot over the last 4 years. I have no cause for complaint at all. I enjoy all the presentations. Even Lucy's sometimes over excited games! I've received nothing but exemplary CS too, which I can't say for some of the other shopping channels.
It's refreshing to have a laugh and feel "at home" with presenters who IMO are very natural.
Not all of us have the same opinion as a handful of you vetran shopping telly forum posters. I think it's important for others who are new to the forum to understand that.

Think it best if go back to lurking on the forums again. It's all a little too negative I think.

I will watch all three presenters closely. I am intirigued by what it is you hear that's so different to me and others I know who enjoy watching all three of the above presenters and others on the channel. I see professional, trained actors/presenters projecting. I don't see or hear shouting. I would agree that sometimes Lucy has got over excited and quickens her speech, but, it's more the timbre of her voice and projection that you seem to dislike.
At the end of the day - you may switch channels, but there are many more out there who are still watching.

Again - it probably all comes down to not being able to please all of the people all of the time.

And so - back to lurking.
