Any techie peeps able to offer opinions on this laptop? I'm looking to buy one for my son which is suitable for game playing and I don't want to spend a fortune. I know there are special gaming laptops but the price is prohibitive.
I'm hoping if it is a goodie it will be offered on easy pay. MTIA

:hi:I'll ask my hubby when he comes in - he's a techie nerd who does it for a living.

Thanks SCW. That one certainly looks a bargain, but it's got 3GB ram as opposed to the Toshiba which has 4. Son wants to play games on it and I think the bigger ram the better. (I'm not quite sure though LOL)

Hubby says it depends which games he wants to play - there's a reason that specialist gaming ones are expensive. If it's stuff like World of Warcraft, that sort of "thinking" slower game, it would be o.k.-ish. If he wants to play action games, the inbuilt graphix card will render them slow and stuttery and you'll have wasted your money.

The graphics card is more important than the ram, low spec card means you cant play high spec games, you can easily add another 1gb of ram for about £20, Vista only reconises 3.5gb of ram anyway so the Medion is only .5gb under the max it can run at, and the Toshiba has too much LOL!

Dont forget the Aldi one has 3 year warranty included

You can also look at C Discount they offer 3x easy pay

Thanks Deanos! Could you tell me what laptop has a decent enough graphics card to enable game playing without spending silly money on a special gamer laptop, or isn't there one lol?

Gosh looking around i see what you mean about prices, ive found this not sure if thats what you are after http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/186065

Or this >

You can look up the spec of the cards in them here > http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-4530.13972.0.html

Im not 100% up on graphics cards in laptops but they seem ok and should play the games on low settings, but i would double check with someone first, because im not 100% confident on laptop cards !

There are also some money off vouchers for currys here >

Thanks very much Deanos. It's made things a bit clearer and I have more of a clue than I did.
Yup, those gaming laptops cost a pretty penny! Son would probably be better off with a desktop really, but he prefers a lappy! Many thanks xx

Yes a desktop would be alot cheaper, there are also some laptops cheap in the Dell outlet, i think thats the route you will need to go down to save money (a refurbished item) , nothing wrong with a refurbished item tho, my current PC is from the Dell outlet and its like new just a customer return.

i ordered the laptop from QVC the other day and i'l let you know what its like when it arrives. my only reason was cos i have had this toshiba im using now for 7 years and its been great and just thought i deserved a new one and the price seemed ok.

I hope you're pleased with your lappy when you get it AO. You've been lucky to get so long out of your old one! You must be a very careful owner
