Steve Bennett at halfway point

He is not alone on his adventure and has taken his Dad and two of his sons Jack (8 years old) and Matt (17 years old). Steve today managed to get a message to shoppingtelly.com to announce that they have just crossed the half way point and other than experiencing some strong winds and host of minor gear failures, all is going well.<br /><br />Not only is the adventure a life time ambition for Steve and his father, but they have also used it to raise awareness for the terrible water shortages in Africa. Steve said "its shocking to think that on this trip we can convert sea-water into drinking water, whilst every day over 30,000 children in Africa die from a lack of drinking water and poor sanitation".<br /><br />If you would like to support the charity "<a href="http://www.justgiving.com/steve-bennett0" target="_blank">Water Aid</a>" and would like to sponsor Steve on his trip, then simply go to <a href="http://www.justgiving.com/steve-bennett0" target="_blank">www.justgiving.com</a> or make a donation by phone via the call centre at Coloured Rocks.

Well, best of luck to Steve and family and finger's crossed that they complete the crossing safely. It always amazes me that someone as busy as Steve can still find time to think of others. It also amazes me that we can all get wrapped up in the petty trivia of our own lives and not spare a thought for real problems that so many people have to cope with every day. A worthy cause and an admirable challenge. :spider:

Wow - what an adventure for an eight-year-old! Not sure I'd have wanted to do that at the age of eight, or any age for that matter; but then I don't have Bennett blood in me. Poor Sarah must be having kittens!

Well done so far, Steve; hope you raise loads for such a worthy cause. (And get back safe 'cos your customers need you.)

What an amazing adventure to go on - and as already commented on (it was my first thought I have to say) - Sarah must be having nightmares and 'daymares' about them all - but particularly her little 8 year old son!!!!!!!!!! Woweee what an essay he is going to have to write when he goes back to school and is asked to write about what he did at the weekend!!!

Thanks for all your lovely comments and yes I am having constant panic attacks!!

I can't wait for them to be back home safely. I am very proud of them all and especially my little boy, he has been incredibly brave and has even been making everyone else's beds for them whilst the boat is rocking all over the place.

I think he is going to come back to me a very grown up little boy!!

To give Jack the extra boost to get through the days i have told him how much good he is doing by raising money to help people who are less fortunate than us!
