I have been out of work for a while and i suppose it was only a matter of time before i started watching selly telly lol:mysmilie_61:

I have only been looking at the gem channels for a few weeks and think Gems is the pick of the bunch.
I bought my first piece on Sunday night,:mysmilie_697: i had been humming and arring about Tanzanite, but the dark haired lady convinced me so i took the plunge :mysmilie_696:I am sooooooo excited about getting it, i cant wait:mysmilie_701:

Its that excitement that brought me to this website. But i am really confused as to why everyone seems to be soooooo down about the channel, its presenters and its jewellery????????:mysmilie_81:

If you hate it all so much why on earth do you watch it???? surely you should just flick the channel? Or do you like to endure the agony of it so you can come on here and have a good old fashioned moan about it? :mysmilie_81:

Hi Jellylegs - seems you're not really reading the posts, or you'd have seen that most of us have given up and ghost and do only "flick the channel". Having once much loved the channel, I for one continue to hop in, in the hope that things are getting better, but no such luck to date so I hop straight back out again.

Not wild about the suggestion that we like coming here to moan, quite the contrary. This used to be the busiest of the jewellery forums with folk showing off their lovely latest puchase. xx

That's what I hoped the site would be about. People chatting about lovely jewellery. Maybe cos I want to chat about mine lol.

Glad I didn't see it before so I don't have anything to compare it to.

Still really excited about my tanzanite, is it really as rare as they say ?

I don't watch, just flick over in ad breaks. I always did my buying from the web games.

Is Tanzanite rare? Well all the shopping channels seem to have an endless supply of it, flick on any channel and you are sure to find them selling Tanzanite. Including Ideal World and QVC.

I can only watch Gems on the computer as they're on Freeview too late. I need my beauty sleep! I watch the Jewellery Channel in the mornings and Rocks & Co in the afternoons at weekends or if I have a day off. Of them all, I find TJC the most watchable. I like the way they don't spend ages over each item and get a good mix of stuff in. I don't like the way they keep bringing items back. If they've got 20 in total, why not sell all 20 in one auction, not 10 then bring back another 7 and then another 3. :mysmilie_81:
I think Rocks & Co are expensive but strangely, I still find myself having to watch it!

In my opinion, Gems is the best for the whole package. I feel confident ordering from them (and getting refunds on time) and have never had any probs with their CS. I like the way that you can track your orders, returns and expenditure on line - unlike Rocks & Co.

If you can Jellylegs, it'll be great to put up a picture, even better a photo. Believe it or not, we love ogling one another's bling. I did put a happy list on the "final markdown" thread but, unusually, there's been no response <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D4%252F4%255F9%255F8%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_8.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D4%252F4_9_8%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xx

As a lower-to mid price-range buyer, I am presently finding Gems much stronger behind the scenes than in front. Their technology has been tops for quite a while now, it's not the first time I've praised them for that, but I find that products (at my level) and presenting have become very disappointing lately. Either tatty or too expensive, with very poor gold weights plus price rises. I knew prices would have to go up, but not a combination of more price, less value. xxxxxx

If I could give you a little piece of advice Jellylegs, I hope you will accept it with the goodwill in which it's meant.

The ONLY place to buy Tanzanite imho is The Jewellery Channel (Channel 650 Sky). They are one of only 8 sightholders at Tanzanite One which means they get the very best Tanzanite. Only the 8 sightholders can buy it directly from Tanzanite One mine and they keep the best and sell the rest on.

TJC have beautiful Tanzanite at the best prices. I don't know anyone who has been disappointed with it. They cover all price ranges from the paler Tanzanite set into silver right through to IGI certified lose stones.

They say Tanzanite is rare because until now they have only found it in Tanzania and they say the mine only has about 20-30 years production left. It is not rare at all just now, you can get it in varying quality on all the TV jewellery channels. Whether it becomes rare in the future or not is debatable.

My advice to you is not to buy Tanzanite from Gems TV because it is not as good quality and is much more expensive than TJC.

And that is why it was so worth you joining here Jellylegs :) welcome from me.

I have over the years spent lots of money at gems at least 2 deliverys a week and i bought my AAAA tanzanite from them 18 months ago i am now in discussion with them as my AAAA has faded to match my friends AA they have had it tested and say it is not coated that maybe if it were cleaned it would bring colour back I DONT THINK SO this and lots of other reasons are why Gems is getting it good from us IF someone on here hadnt let us know that their pink diamonds were coated which they didnt openly disclose or that a lot of their rubies are fissure filled we would all have been conned that is what this is all about what it should be about

:mysmilie_348:Why I watch? :mysmilie_701: well this answer could be very long, but i will keep it short and sweet - I dont sit and watch gems for hours upon hours, those days are LONG gone! :mysmilie_701: I cant tolerate more than 5 minutes of gems at any one time! but I watch it because it beats watching Loose Woman on ITV1 :mysmilie_17: but i watch gems, as it gives my life a purpose(?) :mysmilie_701: I can sit at my lap top, and whinge on and on and on, about the crap that gems sells, to my hearts content! :mysmilie_17: :mysmilie_11: 9(

I like to start my day with a bit of Jeremy Kyle to remind me how lucky i am :mysmilie_34:. Shopping telly is for ironing and when i am doing the house work and enjoying a much deserved a cuppa tea and a biscuit (hob nob)

Wonderful !!!! i really want to show it off, i hope you don't think i'm being big headed. its not the most expensive, i am just soooooo excited about it:mysmilie_696:

:mysmilie_348: Jellylegs, when Gems first started, their biggest asset was the lovely Steve Ashton, and their format was fresh and new. Lots of us bought weekly and proudly displayed our latest purchases here on ST. I always had it on in the background, even if I wasn't buying, it was entertaining, and better than the other carp that was on during the day:mysmilie_697:

I bought lots of pieces, including 2 AAAA tanzy pieces, with which I'm delighted, and had good valuations from Safeguard on.

Steve Ashton joined the forum and was excellent at dealing with any problems that arose, as well as giving us the occasional 10% discount code, which of course, encouraged us to buy even more.

Sadly he left, and things changed - and not for the better. With the latest coated diamonds and undisclosed treatment debacle, the old regulars have become disillusioned.

I'm not saying they don't still have the odd nice piece (and I don't mean odd - peculiar:mysmilie_17:) but the hard sell, thumping music and over 'enthusiastic' presenters are not what we liked about the Gems of old.

Hello Jellylegs, and welcome!
I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here, but I do find a lot of the comments on this forum to be very negative. I know that many people have had a bit of a nasty wake-up call on many of their treasured pieces of jewellery, and I'm not surprised they're mad as all hell about it, but I wonder if the lower-budget viewers are a bit scared to comment here because of all the negativity that seems to fly around.

I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago praising GemsTV which got no replies, but I will say here again that I am a fan of GemsTV because I don't buy anything over about £70 and they have plenty of very good quality stuff in my price bracket, especially in their clearance hours.

I'll also say I like watching Lynn Jinks because she's hilarious, even if I've not got any money for treats. I just love my jewellery so I flick regularly through most of the channels of an evening, but I keep coming back to GemsTV because it's the only one I might actually see something I can afford on (and no, I don't buy any of their paste stuff). I used to buy my jewellery off QVC but they're so expensive these days.

I hope you enjoy yourself on the forum, it's very entertaining and informative, and it is lovely to see what goodies others have treated themselves to: I love a good dose of envy to sharpen up my computer time!!! :D

hello countess i too am normally a low budget buyer the dearest things i have has been bought for me by O/H as anniversary pressies and that consists of 2 things my black diamond which i adore and my so called AAAA tanzy (which if you have seen my posts you will know what i mean) i have bought alot of bling from Gems over the years their silver watches could not be beaten for quality and value in fact i have one watch i bought 3 years ago which is still running on the original batteries which is why people are so mad because although it seems as we have a lot of dosh we dont all have and when our more expensive purchases are now not found to be what we thought of cause we are a tad peeved but in their defence i think Andrew has been handling the job very well and has given us atleast a bit of hope that the old gems hasnt gone totally

hello jellylegs and i hope you love your ring when it arrives. i remember the excitement and the clammy hands ripping open the bag lol

oh but i loved gems tv. i loved everything about it from caffine rush to even smirking at some of the odder designs (that tiara style diamond ring still holds a special place in my heart). It was so bad that my husband bought me a laptop so i could sit and feed my gems addiction with him in the lounge instead of locking myself away in the office for hours on end. no matter what i was doing on the pc gems was always on in the background so i could see what was being auctioned on both channels so i could hit the buy it now button at just the right moment.

and then it all changed...
new site (things in the wrong place!), net buyers side lined in so many ways, steve ashton left, prices rose, designs stagnated, more silver than gold, silver priced at the same as gold, thinner bands etc. etc. etc.

i havent bought from gems in a long time. i keep trying mind, i add a thing or two to my basket but they dont tempt me enough to actually buy. i remember the days when i used to have to cull my basket to get it to an acceptable amount lol I used to come here a minimum of 5 times a day to see what other people had to say about gems and to see and drool over what they had bought but now i only pop in every now and then.
everything changes and evolves, Gems did and so did we. i now waste my money on a number of things instead of just gold lol

I have bought from both ends of the budget . The best ever peice was approx £20 and was a fixed silver collar with a rainbow of gems and pearls cascading down fom the apex , It was so beautiful I bought it as a 16th birthday present for a dear family friend . I so wanted to keep it LOL

Like the rest of you now, I don't watch Gems all the way through but flick in and out of the Channel, sadly long gone are the days where I can sit and appreciate it like I used to.
In my estimation their standards have slipped so low now that they will fall over themselves.
It's very sad to see a Channel go like this, from being a most excellent Channel to one where I don't think they know the truth about Jewellery if they stepped on it.

:mysmilie_34:

Oh dear my lovelies thats all so sad. It seems to be a case of they did it so well before that anything less than that is a disappointment, and leaves all of you craving for the good old days of 10% off coupons (don't blame you, i would like a few of those) and lovely generous presenters

I feel quite lucky i don't have anything to compare it to, as i rather enjoy the channeL, its silly ness and bizarre designs (if the designs where MORE outrageous before...wow, they must have been pretty outrageous.)

I have to say though i am absolutely not someone who likes to dwell in the past. if i did i would spend all day looking at my stupid legs and wondering why the hell they don't work. i think you have to move on in life (not that shopping TV is life loll) and as much as possible leave the baggage and anger behind.no good can ever come from looking back in anger (oasis?) time moves forward and so do i, thats my theory anyway. sorry to get a bit deep
