Hi

Can anyone tell me what is supposed to be different about bi-colour tanzanite? I grabbed a couple a few nights ago and they arrived today, but to me, they just look like tanzanite. One is, admittedly, a fab electric purple colour but the other, although it is a beautiful trilliant cut and I might keep it just for that, merely looks like paler tanzanite to me....if I wiggle it around enough it looks a bit bluey green, but nothing unique.

Is this what it's supposed to do? i think since I got my green one and it blew me away I was expecting something similar.

I have taken some pics but the evening light and poor bulb in my bedroom isn't doing much - any comments or information would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry Nikki don't know anything about the bi colour tanzy but would love to see a close up photo of the rings. Did you see them on air before buying? How did they look on screen? Two tone? Hope someone can help you.

I got a bi-coloured tanzy from Rocks but sent it back as I wasn't happy with the quality of the bi-colour in the stone (ie I couldn't see two distinct colours).

My understanding is that virtually all tanzies are heated to enhance their colour and it is this process that can produce bi-colour tanzies. They are quite rare because the stones that bi-colour seem to come from one small sector of the Merelani Hills. I was chatting to a jeweller about it and the advice seemed to be that bi-colour (like most things I suppose) is a matter of personal taste but there should be two clear colours. It was suggested to me that one colour I should look for when purchasing a bi-colour was yellow/gold preferably over deep blue. Apparently if you are really lucky you can get gold/pink tanzies..... (one can hope)

All this chat happened while I was contemplating a chameleon tanzy blue, green, violet with amazing flashes of red ............

Looking on the web shows all sorts of colours - some liek Mystic Topaz! most look like Ametrine. Yellow and blue split stones.

That's a good question Nikki, unfortunately I don't know the answer, but from the name of the stone I would think it reasonable to expect two colours. Hopefully an expert (Meesh?) will be along soon to explain all.
Whether or not you keep them depends quite a bit on what you paid for them suppose, were they very expensive?

Hi again!

Fluff, that was exactly what I was expecting. Like Anjo, I am comtemplating sending mine back because they simply don't have the colour play I was expecting.

For some reason, my photos are not playing ball - i shall continue to try, though.

I think I've managed to get the same piccies up bigger... am still trying to get them in sunlight (but not much about today)

there, that's clearer.... usually my camera picks up more colour than is there - this time it seems to pick up less. They seem a bit dull and transparent.

I am quite frightened to comment in the Rocks TV section but for what it's worth Nikki even if it should look the way it does you are not happy with it and so it should go back. I think personal taste is always better judge with Jewellery.

I'd send them back Nikki for 2 reasons, one, you don't seem in love with them and two IMO the tanzy doesn't look too good quality. If it was me i'd send them back and use the money to buy something i fell in love with as soon as i opened the box! I always say if you are unsure, don't keep.

You know what? I agree! For the first time ever, I am going to send tanzanite back.... it's just not what i was expecting! Thanks for all your advice, guys.
