Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well.

Havent bought anything from Gems for ages but happened across this item this afternoon (have been on the hunt for the perfect paraiba for a while now). Thought it looked like a good colour and size for the price (350 quid) but almost seems too good to be true. Am getting it home for a look but am just wary what with the price being quite low for the carat weight.

Has anyone seen this one IRL or have any advice?

Thank you!

Kx

From my experience I've only sent back one which I ordered when they first appeared, that was because the colour wasn't neon and there were noticable inclusions. It was overpriced too, at £399

The ones I've kept really glow and although one appears to have a window and the other has small inclusions the reason I kept them was that they look like they are lit from within. I think I will be more fussy now and spend the extra money on the clarity and look for a turquoise colour. These are the two I've got...

They were less money than yours at £300 and £279 repectively.

I am contemplating this (it's in my basket) I may have to have it;)

Hi K, it's very difficult to tell what you're going to get from the photo's, it looks an amazing colour, lots of gold and a very good price for the colour. As such, I would be expecting quite a few inclusions and for it to look a lot paler IRL. Definitely worth a look, you'll know one way or another as soon as you open the box. :)

Paraiba Tourmaline, its a fascinating stone isn't it? You never know quite what you'll end up with! There were heaps of past threads to refer to for help with choosing a good PT, but sadly we've lost them all.

The first thing to look out for is windowing as Huggles has mentioned. If it is so clear that you can see text through it, then the cut isn't right. Some inclusions can add interest to the stone, but colour is all important.

Huggles, your pear shaped ring has a lovely turquoise colour and this is the most glowing colour, I've heard it said on here.

The ring you've chosen Karen looks very pretty, in a pp style setting with lots of WG. You'll only know if its the right one for you when you get it home and check out the quality of the PT and its glow factor.

Wishing you good luck.

Thanks for the info and advice ladies. Am getting quite excited about seeing my ring now - roll on Thursday. Am hoping the colour is neon and lovely - i can live with a few inclusions if the colour is perfect and glowing.

Huggles - some lovely rings you have there and the pendant you have in your basket is lush. You have to get it home for a look at least. Let us know what you decide.

Will let you know how the ring turns out IRL.

Thanks again ladies.

xx

Oooooo K, it looks a lush colour in the pic. I hope it's all your hoping for!!!! :D

Hi Everyone,

It arrived this morning and is absolutely beautiful - arrived really early too which is great. The colour is a beautiful neon. Had been worried it would be really pale and wishywashy but isnt at all. A few minor inclusions if you really look but they dont detract from the beauty of the gemstone. Doesnt seem to be any windowing which is a relief also. Even the diamonds (which are small) are very sparkly and alive - think it is a keeper - sorry Yazrose!

Thanks for all of the advice. Am going to enjoy showing off my beautiful ring at work this morning!

Great news Karen, it sounds like you've got a belter there. Well done. (Any chance of a photo?).

Delighted to hear your good news ksmyth123 :). Unfortunately, I decided to dump the pendant. It looked gorgeous but just couldn't afford it at the moment...champagne eyes and coca-cola wallet as my husband says

Brilliant Karen. I think you've got a steal of a deal.:D You'd notice the windowing rightaway with Paraibas because you lose the saturation of colour in the centre of the gem. Also you'd expect to see some inclusions, so no problem there. It's all about the colour and it sounds as though yours is spot on. I'd love to see a photo too if you can post one, so we can ooh and aaah over your new sparkly ring. :)

Yes, photo please! :D Met up with my SIL today only to find she's been shopping at Gems and was sporting a large PT ring. I have been very good and have been on the Gems wagon since before last Christmas (the only time I tried to buy something in June the web checkout wasn't working) but I fear that looking at these links to PT at Gems is not good for my restraint. Another one here with champagne eyes and coca cola wallet Huggles - love that saying!

A photo would be lovely, please. It looks gorgeous :)

Someone's bought my pendant from the web auctions page - the big square blue one for £1,475  I love the turquoises and aquas (and have bought one or two ...), but there's something about that blue one that I really like. Oh well, I can empty my piggy bank now :(

They might have just hidden it in their basket for a while, or get it home and return it 'cos it's not at that good IRL - wish there was a way to find out if something's been returned. I don't suppose CS would tell us if we asked - or would they? Anyone tried it?
