Another mispronunciation!

The first word i put in there was chalcedony

Actually I did generalise a bit in my post which is unfair as I'm sure the fabulous John Scott does actually say 'AGIT' but he's the only one who gets it right. Mind you, he always said Marquise correctly too. Maybe they should get John to do some training with the others and teach them how to speak properly :grin:

I thought more of a gut than a git,
and most definitely not an ayegate
A git is a twit
and a gut is a phut
Annoying? Just more than a bit.

Argey ... that's brilliant!

I thought it was "A-gut" ... almost "A-gert" with a very soft R ... blimey, this is hard to write! Kind of more like the "u" in "Circus" ... does that make sense?

I have known how to pronounce Agate correctly since I was about 5 years old because we used to go looking for it. Yes, there is a lot of Agate found in Scotland!

Of course it's a well known fact that the best English in Britain is spoken in Inverness so we Scots are at a distinct advantage when it comes to speaking properly

Still reads as a get not a git - lol, and sounds like a gut/gert. Perhaps it's an accent thing? I'd say a-gut!

Profligate ...say that, then cross out the p, r, o, f & l ... substitute the "i" for an "a" (as in "And") and that's how you say it!
