Morning all,

After a stupid error of a rare kebab and getting windypops (my fault I do know but hey yesterday I did have both my knees injected right into the bone so thought I deserved a treat!) and I turn on Gems (5am) and as nice as the lady is (sorry don't know name) and she went from ultra laid back to shouty. So much so my ears are bleeding! Please stop :)

Hi PJ sorry about that. Jenny is very very new and it is only her 3rd night of presenting ever.

She is learning on the job!

Regards

Sarah

I had the same experience too PJ!! Fell asleep with Gems on in the background & woke up at some ungodly hour to shouting & screeching & couldn't find the remote to make it stop! Finally found it under the bed, but by then my ears were definately bleeding. What a nightmare!

Fair play, I used to be married so I know what it is like to try and talk, ignoring the constant whining in ones ear :p Ops did I say that out loud? Please tell her Sarah, she did everything else like a pro, just the volume but I know it is night time and all she was doing was trying to inject pace :)

Sorry, but I can't watch Jenny's presentations which is a shame because as an insomniac I was hoping that a bit of bling viewing would be just the ticket for the night hours. Far too loud, too many incorrect pronunciations, and too many "guys". I tried to stick with it, but gave up in the end. I've said it before and I'll say it again, get Alan Miller to do the training, he's in a league of his own and his presentations highlight how poor some of the others are. Why is it so hard to understand that shouting and shrieking, mixed with haranguing and berating, turns viewers off in huge numbers? I'm not singling Jenny out in this, some of the others are every bit as bad, if not worse, since they are not new and should know better.

I have to confess to having been drawn in on these all nighters and I liked Jenny on the first night. Sadly she has quickly turned into a clone of the worst presenting styles that Gems has to offer (and which I'd hoped would be toned down when the Company was bought). I think I know who is doing the training and it just doesn't work. Through the night especially, needs to be either calm or fun (as in witty) if Gems are going to draw in we creatures of the night.

PS - Now I understand where Yo's quadruple album came from and why it was produced.

Having just received my 5th damaged item from Coloured Rocks, (in the space of just over 2 months), I'm afraid that I shall be looking elsewhere for blingy treats in the future. I'll still tune in to watch Alan present, since he makes it fun and is as far away from the hard sell norm on these channels as it is possible to be. I'd be interested to know the levels of sales generated by various presenters since that would make clear which techniques work best with the viewing public. Yesterday I watched Angeline for about 10 minutes, which was all I could take, and she was racing round the studio screaming and carrying on, rushing to the gallery to 'confirm' the information about how many items were to be in a particular auction, oops, sorry, 'game' (another bugbear) and the price the item was set to go to. It was absolutely unbelievable and I felt like I had tuned into CBeebies, albeit a less mature version of it. Honestly, who do they think they're kidding with this rubbish? That, along with all the gasping and fake astonishment are immediate switch-offs for me.

I've got a ghastly feeling that folk like this stuff and we dissenters are in the minority. Why else do they continue to up the levels? It started when Gems were running into trouble and I forgave them at the time, thinking this was born out of desperation in an effort to keep the company running (and thus their jobs). Seems I was wrong since it is now at unforgivable and intolerable levels. This, along with damaged and poorly made goods, was sounding the death knell for me. Even the "sycophancy" and all the unpleasantness from Rocks chat was getting to me, particularly once it started to reverberate over here and it wasn't possible to mentally separate one channel from the other. The final toll rang when it took nearly a month to refund (I think I only ever returned items three times in six years and many purchases, due to my inability to do the post office). The Gems refunds only took a week.

Phwaw - that feels better! xxxxxxxx

Argey, the refunds situation is appalling. Why on earth does it take over a month to reimburse us? Even though I've received 5 damaged items, I only sent back one of them, like you, I can't get out and about right now and the hassle, along with the fact that I could be taking the sleep that needs no alarm clock by the time the money gets back into my account, just leaves me feeling that I'll just give it up as a bad job, and go back to my old bling-free existence.
Gawd, do you really think that there are peeps who enjoy the amplified market stall sales technique? Well, stop the ruddy world, I want to get off. I loathe it with a vengeance and simply can't comprehend anyone falling for such guff. Also can't be doing with the porkie pies - I am, after all, vegetarian...I've lost count of the amount (ooo, a rhyme) of times I've heard one of them say, in absolute amazement, "Lowest price ever!" to which I generally add, "And indeed, the ONLY price ever..." "And this kunzite is patroke-like in colour" "This has closed so much higher..." And also so much lower... "Look at the diamonds on this piece..." Hang on, I'll just get me binoculars...
"This is going to be an amaaazing game" Pardon me for being pedantic, but I don't regard buying something as a 'game'. When I used to go to the supermarket, I didn't think to meself, "Oh, look at those cheeses, I'm going to play a great game in here today, and then I'm going to play in the clothes shop and the stationers. An auction is not a ruddy game, and the people bidding are not players, they are customers parting with hard earned cash. Oh, and just one more thing, "I can't believe this is in an under £30 hour..." Neither can I, I wouldn't give you tuppence for it, so don't insult my intelligence.
And the one positive to be gained from all this: Alan is fab. There, you see, I do see the bigger picture.

Très tragique that you've lost you new found blinginess so soon Yo. There's nought like sitting up in bed, waiting for yer nursie's visit, in yer wincyette jarmies and crocheted bedjacket, catheter and bag well hidden under the folds of the flannelette sheets (to mop up leakages from drippy dressings), covered from head to toe in bling. :mysmilie_12: xxxxxx

C'mon Fwend, I can feel yer breath, time to show us the cut of yer jib. xxxxxxx

Just don't do it on an "under £10 day". xxxxxxxxx

OMG - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL JENNY TO SHUT UP.

She's incredibly screechie and if that's not bad enough, how many times has she said "absolutely stunning" and "bling"????

I'm sorry but if I want a presenter to scream "bling" at me, I'll pop down to the local market.

If I want my ears syringed, there are less painful ways of doing it than subjecting myself to the non-dulcit tones of Jenny.

New or not, the number 1 rule should be "don't shout". I don't know anybody who likes to be shouted at.

It's great that Sarah et all come on here and respond to (some) of our posts and tell us they are listening to our comments. But what has changed? As far as I can see, absolutely nothing. It is very sad, but without trawling through, I can't remember the last really positive thread on Gems or Rocks.
Sarah posted a while ago that they had a training day and were taking our comments on board. Well, it really doesn't appear that way. The vast majority of the presenters have become virtually unwatchable to me as I can't abide the shouting, hard sell and lies.
I agree with Puss, Alan is fantastic and Coloured Rocks should be very grateful they have him. As for the others, Matt, Barry, Liv and possibly Fi are calm and pleasant to listen to/watch. I'm afraid all the rest are either far too loud, have lost my trust or behave in a thoroughly puerile manner, but more than likely all three at the same time. And don't get me started on refunds!
I also fear that Argey might be right and the sales figures show that Angeline (one volume=LOUD!) and all the rest of my least favourites shift the most stuff (but do they include the returns rates in their selling figures?) as, with the cheaper end items they now mostly flog, they must be attracting a younger audience.
Please Coloured Rocks, I'd love to post in a positive thread soon.

I never knew GemsTV were on overnight till I saw this thread, I watch a little after the F1 coverage and can only agree with everything that has been said, she is apalling.

GemsTV brought back Ruth Linnett why don't they bring back the lovely Derky, he kept me watching, the bunch of shouters they have at the moment just make me turn over.
