I think Mr and Mrs B have a factory in a shed at the back of Gems Towers where they are cloning presenters. I've been watching Emma (a favourite) who I shall now refer to as Emmalynnalina. I don't think she's capable of the histrionics but is definitely up a notch. Still charming, but it's the old give 'em one fact of the trivia variety, and spend the rest of the time prattling on about the price. Of course price is important, but it ain't the b all and end all.

I think the couple of days of my reunion with Coloured Rocks is over, presenting is quite simply unwatchable, as for me it's more like some kind of self chastisement, and if today is anything to judge by I seem to have seen everything on offer over the weekend. I am however looking forward to the Lapidary Collection on Wednesday morning, let's see if that can change my mind. xxxxxxx

Yep what's happened to Emma? I tried watching her recently but she was so loud and excitable....I just couldn't! But you're right Argey about the lack of useful info. When we're spending good money on jewellery we do need to know everything about each piece and not have how much it is costing rammed down our throats....we can see the price for ourselves on the screen. But now I never even consider being tempted by something unless I have the pooter turned on, as I want to know all the details...as shown on the website. And because I can't rely on the presenters to give me all the facts and then tbh these often need repeating as not everyone catches the beginning of every presentation.

I love Tookalon, so have continued the torture by watching Angeline whilst whacking myself over the head with a tin tray and playing the spoons. Will I make the whole two hours - bets will not be taken. :muscle:

At the shouting of "just get it", I realised that James Russell is locked in the shed, with the clones, having started the James Russell Charm School for Presenters. xxxxxxx

I have said, Argey, that the standard of presenting is now appalling and, for me, unwatchable. It isn't just the shouting and histrionics, it's the ****** lies. I got really irritated last night at Lynn who auctioned a turquoise necklace and was screaming at the viewers, "£29! I can't believe we have taken this fantastic piece to just £29! What an unbelievable price for something as gorgeous, as fantastic, as beautiful as this. £29, can you believe it?!" To which I answered, "No, I certainly can't, especially since you auctioned it yourself for £24 just a couple of hours ago..." I'm afraid that this sort of thing really grates, and Carol is a prime example of someone who does it all the time, it's a very unattractive 'quality' in a presenter. I know they're there to sell, but they should realise that there are regular viewers who know that they're being lied to. Another reason to mourn the loss of chat, I feel.
Argey, if you can sit through 2 hours of Angeline's screaming, repetition and histrionics, not to mention her rushing to the gallery to check on the "amazing" price, then frankly, you deserve some kind of medal for perseverence in the face of incredible odds.

That's it, the presenting police are going home! This is about Gems but relevant to this thread. Tookalon ring the presenting of which I've already had a moan at £44: "37 of you have paid way more than this" "it's never been at this price before" - no because it's been at £39 at least three times. At £39: Yes, you've guessed it - "this is the lowest price ever". This from the woman who I suspect (in reality) does the training.

I'm so disappointed, I still remember being really pleased when Steve bought the channel back - shows me for the silly old fool I am. Returns to corner to continue sucking thumb having given up looking for a bandage for my head. <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D4%252F4%255F9%255F8%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_8.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D4%252F4_9_8%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xxxxxxxxx

Argey, you've said something that I've felt is true for some time now - that Angeline is the person responsible for 'training' the presenters; either that or she is cited as the example all should aim at. I'd certainly aim at her, and I can assure you I wouldn't miss...
What's with this constant, "at £39, I've only got 5 chances, 5 chances, £39, I've got 5 chances at £39, £39, 5 chances, I've got 5 chances only..." For Gawd's sake, is it a kind of mass hypnosis?

T'ain't worth it Argey.....

.....but not too tight mind and make sure you can still breathe properly. :wink2:

Better still - put the tin tray away.....have a :coffee: instead.

Sorry all, especially Puss, my last rant was aimed at Lynn when she took over the shift from Angeline. I wish I could remember what it was but Lynn had a title with old Gems, something like head of presenting or some such. As they seem to be inseparable and very similar, it could well be a combined effort. xxxxxxxx

That's interesting, argey, because Lyngeline are very good friends IRL, so their presenting similarities are not so surprising. I can't think why either one would be regarded as the standard to aspire to, especially when the very accomplished and professional Alan is in da house.

Voice Abuse....

Me being serious now, but I wonder if these 'shouty' presenters have heard of a medical condition called 'Voice Abuse'. It does exist cos my hubby suffered from it and had to see a consultant. Brought about in general by over using the vocal chords...too much talking, talking too loudly etc and it affects a lot of the population who use their voices vocationally.
It is very unpleasant, his throat felt uncomfortable all the time and his voice sounded 'husky' as in Laryngitis. It was necessary for him to visit a Speech Therapist for exercises on how to retrain the vocal chords to close properly.

Here's a link as to what happens and who can be affected...

Let's hope they all get it then Sacha. :wonder: xxxxxx

Puss, it was a while back now, but I did used to enjoy their tales of what they'd been up to on their nights out and shopping trips. Hope I don't change that much when I'm a grown-up. :cheeky: xxxxxx

'ey Argey, you've years to go yet before you're a grown-up, petal, so don't worry about it.

You're right, they are clones - BOTH EQUALLY UNWATCHABLE -oops, sorry was I shouting?
Come to think of it, the paddles on the end of Lynn's fingers are now slightly shorter than those on Angeline's, useful information and a little tip from me so you''ll be able to tell them apart.
I didn't know that Lynn is in charge of training, but if she is, oh well, I fear all is lost.

Plus I don't think Lynn is trying to grow tomatoes under hers! :mysmilie_7: xxxxxxx

Right kiddiewinkies ..........

If you see a piece being sold at more than it has previously and the presenter is clearly saying that this is the lowest price, it's misleading and the ASA will act. So, get your typing fingers out and report it to:-

http://www.asa.org.uk/Complaints-and-ASA-action/How-to-complain.aspx

You can do it online and it only takes a few minutes.

It's not acceptable. I love GemsTV (despite falling out of love with them for a while and have just got back into the groove again) so this distresses me more than I can say but this lack of ethics is inexcusable.

I don't think they've done anything quite that blatant yet Meesh. It's more a question of "this is the lowest ever price" when it's the same or only price as on umpteen previous occasions. Although misleading and, in my opinion, I believe the intention is to mislead, technically it's correct. I'm beginning to feel that these two channels have the dirtiest selling techniques, all in the guise of friendship and excitement, but these days very carefully considered and well planned. Let's face it, they now have enough legal bods around to help them in this endeavour (even if non-practising I'd imagine they will have sound background knowledge). xxxxxxxx

PS What's really irritating me about this is that I don't think it's in any way necessary. They have products we want so why spoil themselves with these tired and tarnished techniques.
