The 2 mega-auctions with the love child of Uncle Fester & Mister Magoo, that is. Were you impressed with the final prices, or did you think that considering the quantity of items in each auction, (500 & 200) that the prices weren't quite as spectacular as we were led to believe? £89 for the multi-gem sterling silver bracelet and £129 for the multi-gem sterling silver necklace.
I found myself becoming a tad miffed at the usual ploy of comparisons (he concentrated on 3, one of which was for a cz bracelet) since the other sellers were offering 1 item, not 500, and I would imagine that that would impact rather heavily on the price charged. Also, not the exact same item, so a price comparison is farcical anyway, but we're all becoming used to the farcical price comparisons, aren't we? Or at least we're becoming used to being told what the average price of gold is at three high street shops...
I felt it was a lot of hype for not very much, but then I am a wee bit on the cynical side.

I've posted about the comparisons on your 3 year old thread Yo. Incredibly and utterly misleading.

The bracelet and necklace were nice but definitely not special and you can get the same elsewhere for similar prices!

They hype and general amount of talking and selling tactics were beyond belief.

I think that this morning's farce could backfire for them in many ways. As a customer, I expected an auction of 500 bracelets to finish at a lower price than £89, and an auction of 200 necklaces to finish lower than £129, and I was, therefore, somewhat irritated to have wasted so much time in the hope that this wasn't just a cynical (my word of the day) ploy to 'big up' the channel. It was all air and no real substance, and that's an hour of my usual jet-setting life that I won't get back...

Enters smugly. I'm proud to say I didn't watch these. In fact, I haven't watched again since my last hiccup. <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D4%252F4%255F15%255F4%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_15_4.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D4%252F4_15_4%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xxxxxxx

Well, just to add a soupcon of irritation to your smugness, you'll be thrilled to know that both Rocks and Gems are still 'giving away' many items of jewellery, and the delightful (Gawd, when does her maternity leave start????) Vicki C 'gave away' countless beautiful pieces last night. Now, aren't you pleased I told you that, Argey? xxxx

Pass the Paracetamol - other pain killers are available. :cheeky:

The lovely Sacha has just reminded me that the same mega-auctions are being repeated at 6pm today, so don't miss out, cos with it being a genuine reverse auction scenario, they'll probably go to different prices, won't they??? No, I don't think so either. Unless, that is, SB is reading the forum and thinking to himself, "that ruddy pussclaws, or whatever she's called, I'll show her up and make her look daft; take a few quid off each one..." Please do that, Steve, particularly with regard to the necklace, ta very much. Oh, and if you could do a really low price on a london blue topaz piece for me, I'd be ever so grateful and I'd do a really nice post. Yes, even nicer than the ones I already do. Deffo.

Adina's presenting the items now and repeating the dodgy comparisons with print-outs from the internet - a really disgraceful and nonsensical selling technique, but sadly one that will no doubt convince many potential buyers that they are getting an amaaaazing deal. I think it's a shoddy and deceitful way to treat customers, and I'm surprised television watchdogs aren't on the case. It's all the more cynical when you realise that they have so many legal bods onside, so no doubt they are falling within the parameters of the law, but if so, the law needs amending, and fast.

Curiosity got the better of me I'm afraid. What a load of old tosh this woman is dribbling. "The most finest" and "get it valued". Bad grammar and codswallop too much for me after a couple of minutes. <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D10%252F10%255F1%255F104v%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_1_104v.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D10%252F10_1_104v%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xxxxxxxx

I'd be interested to know what proportion of £89 for the bracelet (ooh what a surprise) goes to the gem cutters and setters. xxxxxxxxx

So would I, Argey.

Well, well, my amaaazing, phenomenal, uncanny psychic powers have not let me down today. I had just the merest hint of an inkling that £89 would be the final price, and even Bunty tapped her poopy tail 89 times, and this is a cat that has to be directed to her food bowl every 20 minutes or so...

And it's £129 for the necklace! As our Cilla would say, "Surprise, surprise!"

Genuine reverse auction my arsenic...

Still, looking on the bright side, I've heard some corkingly good phrases today:

"The phone lines are going ballistic!"
"A cancophony of colour"
"The first 10 have already sold out!"
"Buy 10 of these as presents."
"Oh, my word, for you to be part of, to even be part of this amaazing event, it's gonna rock your world; they're rockin' out the door tonight, oh, my word."

And all credit to the lovechild of Uncle Fester and Mister Magoo for:

"This, this, this is the absolute deal of a lifetime..."

You don't watch for long stretches then Yo? Five minutes'll usually see that lot done and dusted. <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D36%252F36%255F11%255F16%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_16.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D36%252F36_11_16%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xxxxxxxxx

Argey, if I watched for long stretches I'd be doing a long stretch meself, either at her Majesty's leisure, or in some sort of institution for the criminally insane.

Totally off topic but I have to say - Yolanda you are brilliant! You really make me laugh and cheer me up every time I read your posts. :mysmilie_848: So glad to see you back posting and particularly in the Gem section. Keep it up, more of the same please! :mysmilie_504:
