I have all most stopped watching Ideal World now as they seem to have reduced their product range to such an extent that all they are selling now are the same old products every week. Are they having trouble with their suppliers? does anyone know or are they just going "down the pan"

I noticed over the last few days they are stating how they are a reliable company as they have been arround for years??

You can only sell a fixed number of fleaflots or Karcher's before you saturate the market.

With the limited product range they have, sales will drop.

Which is why they have had to start showing T.V adds to raise their revenue why else would they sell products other than from their own stock.

I notice that they're also enclosing flyers for other companies with orders being sent out. Presumably they're paid for that as well?

Erm... Not really. Many companies find that by focusing on fewer products, they can make more money. Consider as well that IW are also part of a business that focuses on crafts, so their profits will come from there as well. It's quite a sensible move (business-wise) because right from the off, they were never going to be able to match the product range of QVC.

The focus on crafts (or cardmaking as it is predominantly) is pretty recent as well. When I first came across them as a Freeview viewer there was a set, regular 9 hours over the entire week. Now there is NOTHING regular about it. For example, what was the point of advertising the introduction of 8pm craft hours when they have just as quickly disappeared? Mind you, there have been so many boreathons etc since then that there have been quite a few evening shows anyway. I still remember their esteemed Chairman in his Annual Report (or whatever it was) announcing that one of their major forward plans was going to be the "aggressive marketing" of craft - clearly we crafters were identified as mugs who would just swallow up everything they rammed down our throats. Certainly, as long as digital TV continues to roll out over the country there will be a regular stream of new viewers which will give their numbers a boost, but I would imagine we can't be the only ones who get heartily sick of the constant hard sell, rotten CS, P&P ripoffs and general contempt for their customers. I would dearly love to know what their customer drop off numbers are instead of just the "hundreds of thousands of new viewers" they are getting.

I would like to know the drop off numbers too Chess,Julian on QVC said the other day we don't want you to make one purchase from us we want your custom to go on and on,Ideal seem to have the opposite approach.

Agree with all that has been said - No Judy Mayfield, Michael Di Cesare, Jewellery shows anymore - Even the old Fleaflots are a rare sighting nowadays. Also, have they disposed of Ellis as well?

Doesn't look promising for the future.

I just think it's so sad.

I loved their jewellery and spent thousands with them and really liked their laid back presenting style where the presenters weren't too precious to have a laugh at their own expense. Granted their range of products did veer from the sublime - excellent gems - to the ridiculous. Anyone remember the face wrap thing to keep away wrinkles? .............Frighten the horses and small children more like! :scarper: One minute it was 'red carpet' jewels and the next it was like Del Boy knocking things out of the back of a van, along with stooges coming on screen in brown overalls moving stuff in the background. Most of all it was fun.

Some of my favourite presenters are still there, but if it's the same ruddy stuff over and over (and I didn't want 'Emilia' slinky the first time round ) I won't watch and neither will many other previous customers. As for those of us who can just about be arsed to buy a card from Clinton's, let alone make the ruddy things - enough already with the kin' craft there's a separate channel for that isn't there? and even those that don't receive it must admit it's overkill on the main channel.

Once upon a time even some of their clothes were wearable, the ones in natural fabrics of course, now? well the truth is, even if they started doing everything I could possibly want, I've had enough and rarely even look to see what's on 'cos - I'm no psychic - but I can usually guess.

I wish I had a fiver for every word written here about their lousy CS. I had queries that were dealt with sensibly when the CS was UK based although getting them to answer was always a pain, once they went to India it was like talking to a cashpoint when it screwed up, totally pointless. Not the staff's fault they have no autonomy, but management's.

I fear whatever they do now it's too little, too late, for most of us. I feel sorry for the presenters, they must be as bored as we are!

I too spent thousands with them in the past but for me the rot set in when Steve went (or was pushed), no-one has ever matched his enthusiasm and flair, yet they continue to bumble along flogging fewer and fewer items, dumping the occasional decent presenter on the way and keeping the tat. Why they sacked Dean and kept some of the others I dont know. Many of the long serving presenters have lost their sparkle along the way and it's not really surprising when you consider the carp they have to sell these days. The endless hours of karcher, bissell, craft (why craft when they have a dedicated channel?) do nothing to encourage me back. They ruthlessly dump favourites like Mario de Luigi in favour of that creep Jerome Alexander and clone anything that does sell well, think Flex & soft, N virosphere, Simply Yoghurt etc. Even Flea Flots disappeard for a while, Ms Paver's tale explaining her absence did not sit well with me and in any case, her daughter had sat in for her previously so why not then or just use a presenter alone, as they have done many times before and since!

Their customer services which was never brilliant is now diabolical, another reason why I will probably never order from them again. They promised us easy payments, made a big fuss about it and it turned out to be for one jewellery show and the sting in the tail for me was that you had to go through customers services to obtain it. No chance!

IW shares once reached the dizzy heights of the 400p mark, now they are wallowing around at about 165p and have done for some time. They can come up with all the excuses in the book, re vamping, investing, buying out etc. but I would put it done to trying to have fingers in too many pies, think Ideal Vitality, Jewellery Vault, the purchase of Superstore TV Ltd. I think the latter may well prove to be their nemesis with their share price mostly in decline since its purchase mid 2006.
