More Ruth Lynette on Gemstv please

Less of all of 'em on GemsTV, with the exception of Alan who, as part of the increasingly bizarre decisions made in GemsWorld, is now relegated to the middle of the night. Can't for the life of me fathom why the one person with professional presenting skills, and relevant broadcasting experience, is shuffled off to insomniaville, whilst the screeching banshees, forever verging on the edge of fake hysteria due to the amaaaaaaaaaazing lowest ever price, albeit, same as ever ****** price, with their tired and worn out phrases and sell, sell, sell, whatever it takes mentality, are given prime-time spots. I'm convinced there's some sort of tax break to be found in self-sabotage, it's the only thing that makes sense of all the recent changes.
oh well, as a chronic insomniac, at least I get the chance to tune in and watch a professional presenter, and my blood pressure levels remain stable instead of shooting through the roof at the tedious antics of the acrylic-nailed eejits who need to realise that there are valid reasons they didn't make the grade as super-successful actors, main reason being that they couldn't fool Gertrude Gullible of Gullibleville, let alone the average sentient human.
Can you tell I've had the latest in a seemingly endless series of trying days?

And indeed without mentioning how ger-lamorous Gertrude of Gubblyville is, in her ber-lue and ber-lack genuine gemstone jewellery, cos it's not fake, it's not per-lastic, it's genuine ger-lamorous, LOWEST EVER PRICE, CHECK IT OUT! What a deal you're getting here today, you and ger-lamorous Gertrude of Gubblyville. I DON'T BELIEVE IT, THAT'S AMAAAAAAZING!

I thought that, when she first started this stint at Gems, she was reasonable; normal speech pattern, fairly articulate and at a decibel level that didn't make ones ears bleed. However, after several sessions at the Shriek'n'Screech Sales Academy, she graduated with honours, along with a reinforced larynx and a reduced vocabulary...

It'll take a lot of something different to make Gems watchable again - more Ruth isn't the answer I'm afraid!

I used to like Ruth a lot but now, like you Jinny, I find her no different to any of the others. Same with Angeline, who was absolutely top of my list closely followed by Lynn, but now they all sound the same. They'd be good on street corners or outside stations though, flogging newspapers. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

My GemsTV favourites have always been Ruth and Angeline BUT I'm so sad to say that over the years they have become shreekers. I really don't like saying that because I've met Ruth and she is absolutely lovely. Genuinely lovely. I've corresponded with Angeline and she's also adorable.

I really don't like saying anything bad about either and it pains me to do but the volume control has definitely been turned up and I don't understand it. They, for me, set the bar for others but it looks like they're now limboing under the bar like the others. :sad:
 
I've heard you going on about Alan before please find a pic as I dont know who he is. Also I'm really not keen on the dark haired lady, don't know her name but she sometimes wears glasses. She mainly seems to be on jewellery maker. Find her hard to watch as shes always singing lol.

He's on their website - wears shirts one size too small and is a really sweet guy.

That's GOT to be Lucy!!!! (Never watch jewellery maker so could be wrong) but I've got to say that her singing is INCREDIBLY ANNOYING. Yes, I am shouting because she used to drive me insane bursting into song at the drop of a hat. When selling jewellery/gemstones, is it necessary? No it bliddy isn't. :devil:

This is Alan http://www.alanmiller.co.uk/ and the one with dark hair on JM who sometimes wears glasses will be Lucy.
 
Well, I must have missed something with Angeline and Lynn because when I watched Gems, they were absolutely the worst two, with Angeline pipping the post in ridiculous childish and incredibly patronising behaviour. The last time I watched and Angeline was on, she was hyperventilating over a piddling little blue topaz sterling silver ring, and running off to the gallery to check that the information she was being given about the "incredible, phenomenal price" was correct. Frankly, it made me want to vomit, it was so pathetic, and I never watched any auction with her at the helm again. I won't be treated like an idiot by a salesperson, and I'll be damned if I'll waste time watching farcical nonsense like that.

Ruth may well be lovely, but her very nasal voice is not pleasant, particularly when she too goes into hypersell mode, and she came out with some daft statements when I saw her, most notably that she often wore faux pearls (for some strange reason...) and her boyfriend didn't like them because they were so obviously faux, whereas the ones she was then auctioning were the real deal, genuine freshwater pearls, and so much better. Rather begs the question why someone working with such great genuine pearls would be wearing fake ones which served only to irritate her boyfriend.

Yes, back in the "good old days" the selling style was quite different and relaxed and often really fun to watch. This all changed when Steve and Don sold up and the company started going downhill. The sales approach got more and more desperate until they became virtually unwatchable. When Steve bought back the company, I really thought that we would see the return of the the old style of presenting as they now no longer needed to be so desparate. Unfortunately, I was so wrong and they've carried on acting out and screeching some of their somewhat dubious sales methods and have remained mostly unwatchable for me.
A while back, after many posts on this subject, we were told that this would be addressed in a training meeting, but nothing at all has changed. In fact, some of the previously more watchable presenters seem to have descended into the same style.
It does make me wonder who is in charge of the presenters and their training!?
And don't get me started on that ruddy heartbeat sound!!!!
 
Thanks to those who replied about Alan and Lucy. Yes I like Alan, always wears a pink shirt. Wasn't sure if Alan was the dark haired man who did the gems bargain buy or something like that on the channel before it changed. I liked him too but he seems to have disappeared.
 
If Steve & Co are so worried about rising costs, why doesn't he get rid of all the presenters, just have a rolling VT of items with fixed prices, and find some pleasant music to accompany it? Occasionally, the IT department could update the VT information and the website so that all the information is up to date, his employment costs will drop dramatically, the prices will be unequivocal and they'll be no more soddin' shouting!

Not a hope - I believe Steve loves having his posse of pals around him too much...
