But have you not seen the promo with the loyal QVC customer telling you how she makes 200-300 christmas cards every year as a gift from her and how QVC are oh so helpful by having things in stock early for her because it takes so long, then pulling out boxes of christmas card stuff from all over her home
Maybe if I started in May I might have some chance of actually getting them made or more likely just get fed up of the whole thing by September

I have a chance of offending the crafters amongst us - and I really don't want to:blush:

For those that make and/or receive hand made cards - what do expect people to do with them?

I receive only one beautifully hand made card every christmas and birthday and thats from an auntie-in-law.Its terrible to "toss" it in the bin, along with all the others - after all I imagine its cost her a fair bit in time and money - but what's the point in keeping it - just because someone has handmade it for you? I'm quite a minimal person in the fact nothing is in my house that isn't used or loved........................and I'm not loving the idea of a drawer of handmade cards, keeping them,well.....just because:confused:

Maybe I would feel different if it was from a terribly loved and important person in my life? But really, realistically - you can't keep every card, sent to you.......can you?!

Some people save their cards, some toss them away - I still have a good number of Christmas & Birthday cards as mementos but in general have thrown more away than kept.

I also can't be bothered getting too individual with Christmas cards, last year I purchased the Anna Griffin TSV in September and that was a matting & sticking kit. Ended up doing my cards last minute JUST before the international shipping deadline (most of my cards go abroad), and it's usually just about 30-40 cards.

It did get me back into crafting, though, and I almost wish it hadn't as stash shopping has become the death of my budget.

the mere thought of Christmas at this time of year makes me cringe, it really has lost any feeling of specialness by bringing its preparation\selling forward earllier and earlier each year. QVC really have surpassed themselves this time with their crass commercialism. All a bit desparate really. Do you think they will dress in Christmassy outifits to present the programme, something by Quaker perchance?

I'm not a crafter. Lack of time rather than lack of interest.

Some handmade cards are beautiful and I do keep some cards. I also frame beautiful cards. It's a great way of creating memorable artwork.

I'm not fond of the 3d type cards. I don't know the technical term ... decoupage?? Anyway you can't frame them no matter how beautiful they are. Well you can if you use box frames I suppose but they're soooo expensive.

I make Christmas cards on and off throughout the year, as and when the urge takes me. That way come November I have a good stock of them ready to go.

The pleasure for me, particularly with birthday or family Christmas cards, is making them for a specific person. The time and effort I put in is my gift to them. What that person does after they have received it is up to them. I have to say though that I would rather they threw them away after a few days than give them to the kids to rip apart and play with all the bits - that does tend to upset me!

I made cards one year, left it too late of course and ended up half glued to the floor covered in sparkles at 1am. When I went home for Christmas my mother commented on the card I'd sent her...didn't believe I'd made it! (Did too good a job apparently haha!). When it struck me that it would end up in the bin like all the 'charity shop multi box 3 for 2 in Boots' cards I really wondered why I'd bothered. All those lovely things that I spent hours constructing would end up in the recycling and in fairness, you can't expect people to keep them forever. So now I buy 'charity shop multi box 3 for 2 in Boots cards'.

i dont display cards that i receive. i dont like them - they make the place look messy, although any sentiments expressed within are gratefully acknowledged. most people have got the message and dont bother any more, they ring me instead.

I feel this way about the whole of Christmas!! I HATE putting decorations up (other than the tree which I can live with) and they bug the crap out of me every day until I can finally drag them down and get my house back. I'm hoping that as we'll be in Oz for Christmas this year it'll be too damn hot to worry about covering our house in tinsel...:sun:

It's just far too early. After months and months of hard sell and preparation, everyone is only to happy to see the back of the event when it gets here, which is supposed to be the best bit! Oh, and beware of how much these cards will cost to post with the price hikes. I sent a "decoupage" card to an auntie recently and she ended up having to traipse to the sorting office to collect it because I was told a 1st class stamp was enough, but it wasn't. I sent her the money as it wasn't fair for her to be the loser but after Royal Fail added their charges, the postage ended up costing more than the card!!

And I'm sure the person in that promo is a genuine customer, and not a well paid agency actress with a tight script designed to allow QVC to foist their seasonal junk on us earlier and earlier each year :D
