Had to laugh - in the 4pm Prai hour, the Prai lady was explaining the fragrance of the "some like it hot" perfume. She said it had Tonka Bean in it - pause for a "wow" from Pippa! I've obviously led a sheltered life because I have no idea what a tonka bean smells like or looks like!! ha ha

Darl might know she has a Tonka Tonka wax tart ......by the way have you seen the latest scent list ............... more drool worthy lol

It is used a lot in perfumes, didn't know about food.

From The Perfume Guide by Susan Irvine.

Tonka bean:
balsamic, hay-like with an overall vanilla tone and a tone of almond. The seed from a West African tree, it contains up to 40 per cent of courmarin, which is the smell of new-mown hay.

So sometimes you will see courmain in a fragrance list and not tonka bean. I know a few years back it tended to appear as tonka in more niche like brands.

I have Parfums de Nicolai Tonka Vanille edp(yes AY, and it was locked behind bars either), its not as sweet as many vanilla based perfumes which can come over as ultra sweet.
