Why is Mark on as the brand ambassador for Skagen? We have previously been led to believe he is a jewellery expert. There is a technical difference between an gemmologist (him) and someone who has a particular interest in watches, or an horologist. At least if the guest is, basically, someone who either works for the company, or is employed by the Q to guest the product, we know what we're getting. This is where QVC, imo, get it terribly wrong. They try to convince the viewer they can trust a guest who is a specialist in his field for that very reason : because he is giving us his opinion on the product being sold. If a diamond ring is being shown, and the guest comments on the quality of the stones, we are expected to have faith in that opinion, because that is his specialty. In this case, Mark is now also an experienced watch guy. Personally, I have a policy that I don't completely trust everything a guest says; both the guests and the presenters, as has been remarked upon frequently on this site, are sales people. Even if they do think an item is utter cr*p, and we would be total idiots to buy, they are not going to tell us that. Caveat emptor, as with anything.

I like Skagen watches and often watch the shows. I love the idea of the two seas meeting and also the simplicity of the designs, but would I buy one? Probably not. I rarely wear a watch, but if I do I have a gold seiko automatic that I bought from a back street vendor in the 1980s in Turkey.

I suppose my point is, how much do the presenters influence us to buy. I like to be given the facts, but I think I make my own mind up whether I buy or not. All the "get on the phones now, as it will be going limited stock" does nothing for me. Moving the jewellery slowly under the millions of lights doesn't tempt me either and as for the waving bears, well that just makes me turn off and run out screaming.

Mark is what QVC refer to as a "yum yum." He is simply a guest employed to present a certain item / range to its best. Do you remember they used to employ some DJ guy to present any headphones / Marc Paul to present certain kids' gifts etc. They just get showbiz type people who are listed in The Stage or Spotlight.

How does the term yum yum arise please?
