New Owner at Sit-Up after record losses

Help Support ShoppingTelly:

Seems the regular "A" team presenters are having a Christmas break, Leanna did a shift this afternoon I think to cover Steve Mac's shift as the baby is due. I was sorry about Chris Birkett leaving last week, but people come and go, such is life. I wish him and his family well. I would imagine being a Bid/PD presenter is currently unsettling for them all. So many experts - they are sure to be snapped up if the end comes. At best if there are new owners, the quality of the presenters will be raised along with a more professional output. That's my ranting over - I look forward to any changes and improvements!

Would anybody like to know next weeks lottery numbers lol?

(I thought this was better than the predictable 'told ya so' lol' )

quite frankly I thought you was talking nonsense as when I see a company selling a product for a minimum of £9.52 before you even add in the cost of a product and peter simon shifts a thousand of them on a Friday night.... it is hard to imagine they would ever lose money, so good call bingo

I think it's pretty clear it's been run badly as a business. The ASA issues, the production values, the repetitive products and the general quality of products have suffered. I have watched bid since the beginning and know one or two people who work there and several who have left. I think everyone is mighty happy at the change. Let's hope we see a return to the glory days of fun and laughter and some good old fashioned shopping telly viewing . Fingers crossed :)

I did say in another thread there were no tv listings from January 6th and I also commented on their lack of accounts for last year.

I suspect they might go off air as planned while a solution to the problems can be found I would be surprised if in a months time if it is still Bid tv and Price Drop tv.

No one buys a company that is loss making and keeps it the same unless you are Blockbuster.

I thought your position was that they had been unfairly picked upon by the ASA and indeed people on this forum. I am glad to see that you acknowledge that there are serious problems with both the products and the presentation.
Let's hope they improve on these issues and turn the business around.
I suspect that the continual over promising and exaggeration by the presenters (and those behind the scenes) has affected their ability to keep customers and generate viable levels of repeat business.
Watching with interest!

There is no way the channel as we know it can stay it is losing so much money, the man taking it over is a former corporate restructuring lawyer, they are used to specialise in turning failing companies around, in other words the status quo of the channel is not an option.

There will be major changes to get it profitable if that means changing everything so be it the company is in big trouble.

Put it this way.... I am the last person that peter simon and elisa foreman-portelli would want to walk through the door

Without us running over well trodden ground I do feel the treatment by the ASA became almost comical. But to be fair BID made a rod for their own back. There have clearly been issues but I am not convinced it has been the sole fault of the presenters. I think it ran much deeper. But I guess we will never know !

Here's hoping for a new BID TV that is bigger and stronger and better than before

I have a feeling they'll drop one of the channels - most likely the Lisa Brash show... i mean Price drop (how that channel is viable I'll never know, it probably costs more to run than they make)

Followed by a culling of presenters who aren't performing as well... sadly I don't think that'll affect Russell and co.

Once the new owners have organised a few things (I would
Imagine there's a lot to do!) the first thing they should do is
change the p&p pricing.
I don't see it happening for a while though, they've only had the
company for a couple of weeks.

WOW...I'm quite surprised that they're losing that much money a year. I knew things were bad, but didn't realise they were struggling quite this much.

It's good they've got new management - it's time for a major revamp of the channels. The times of them flogging absolute tat must surely come to an end now? It clearly shows that their current model isn't working.

(I also fully expect Price Drop to go - it must be a massive loss-leader to run this channel. Selling 10 pieces of costume jewellery in prime time is clearly not sustainable.)

the problem with price drop is that it's exactly the same as bid (seeing as bid does ''non stop drops'')

It all started as it should Bid (rising), price drop (falling), speed auction (fast auctions) then they just made them all the same and split the audience.

Speed couldn't compete with no Freeview slot, they did the disasterous "Bid Shopping" revamp which took the identities of the channels away and the presenters and products just jumped from one channel to another.

They need to give the channels their identities back for a start.

I think all shopping channels are suffering and with online shopping now dominant, there isn't a real USP for shopping channels. I.e. online shopping you can get what you want, when you want (choosing colour etc.) without having to watch for hours to find something kinda similar on the TV. Before online shopping, shopping channels were quite niche in the sense that it was one of the only ways to get stuff delivered to your door apart from catalogues and stuff. I think this is proven from bids profits peaking in 2007, the time around where online shopping made a break through
