I was flicking around on the TV last night and came across this programme on IW - I don't watch IW at all these days but as I'm now hooked on cruises (only been on one though!) - it got my attention ....

.... the one I saw was a Caribbean cruise with Fred Olsen (I think they were selling two different cruises on the show?) ....

... I mean would you trust Ideal World to sell you a cruise costing around £1000 per person???????
(I'm sure Fred Olsen are fab btw)

Doesn't bear thinking about all the things that could go wrong with them as your "middle man" :surprised :lol

Why would anyone book with IW, when they can book direct and probably get a much better deal? There was a big article in the Telegraph over the weekend, basically saying that with the state of the economy here and in the US, lots of cruises will be even more heavily discounted, and gave examples of some amazing deals.

I cruise quite regularly and have never booked direct with a cruise company. You get a much better deal booking with a specialist cruise travel agent/cruise club who also often have offers such as free parking at the port, on board credit etc. No one pays brochure price. Agree with the article you mention although Carnival has now pulled it's scheduled sailings from Dover so there won't be quite so many cabins to fill ex. UK. (Ocean Village is also stopping service with the ships moving over to Princess in Australia). I am sure that there will be some good deals to be had next year though.
