Just wanted to warn you about the possibility that popcorn can cause abscesses on teeth/gums ...read an article that the kernels can get stuck fast and even excellent cleaning can’t alwsys remove them ...they said that just say “popcorn” to a dentist and they will say abscess ...
I was so disappointed as I was really enjoying this relatively healthy treat ....but having had an abscess in the past and remembering the agony it caused etc I’ve kept away ...just wanted to warn of this possible problem ...( besides the expense too of having to sort teeth out )
It could be exaggeration but I for one won’t risk it lol
Popcorn being sold this morning on Festive Food hour

Thank you for the warning, not a popcorn eater but the Shay & Blue Salt Caramel perfume the opening smells just like hot popcorn!

Oh and May I swear I read your headline ate Buying Porn From QVC!!! But too early this morning.:mysmilie_50:

Oh I`m a sucker for toffee Butterkist popcorn and yes it`s a bugger for getting inbetween the teeth and staying there. I try to only eat it now and again, mainly because of how sweet it is.
I had a friend who got an abscess from eating crisps. A sharp edge of a crisp pierced her gum, just a tiny nick but a few days later she developed an abscess in the exact same spot. Abscesses are awful, touch wood I`ve only ever had one and typically it flared up on a weekend and when my dentist was closed. I`ve never had such agony and the side of my face blew up like a balloon. I was camping on the dentists doorstep first thing Monday morning and begging to be seen, told them I`d sit there all day if I had to. Thankfully they squashed me inbetween other patients and when the dentist drained the abscess, packed the tooth, sent me packing with a prescription for antibiotics and told me to return in a week, the relief was such that I could have kissed him.

Ugh Vienna I know exactly that feeling ...never had pain like it ..total agony ..a crisp ? Wow ..worth knowing ...I rang dentists and said “is he able to defiately be there for me today “? Receptionist said “yes he lives around the corner” ...so I understand totally about camping on the doorstep ...and kissing him ...yep ...was very grateful for sure! Lol ...teeth don’t cha just love em lol

Fibby Flint let slip the word "sex" instead of six on the morning repeat, I heard it in the process of grabbing the remote because there's only one thing worse than Ms Flint, and that's Ms Flint oooohing and ahhhing eating food, but when she let it slip the Jo Seph guest giggled and Ms Flint hastily carried on looking more passive aggressive than usual, just so she could let the guest know not to go down that route.

Tell yeh what, they're trying everything to flog that Jo and Sephs popcorn aren't they!? :mysmilie_15: Jo and Sephs Popcorn in Christmas stockings, Jo and Sephs popcorn in tins, Jo and Sephs popcorn in Christmas crackers, Jo and Sephs popcorn in selection boxes, Jo and Sephs popcorn............

Could it be this Freudian slip was because there is a new mucky novel in the pipeline inspired by popcorn?
"He held her tightly and kissed her with mounting passion. She responded and fervently went for his packet. Her lips around his luscious caramel popcorn".

Phew! Thank goodness you said "caramel popcorn". :mysmilie_17: yes, you're right, it only takes her ten minutes to knock out a slutty "novel" so it was still probably fresh on her mind, from her tea break. :mysmilie_15:

Salted popcorn for me but I make my own not that that would make any difference in respect of an abscess. I've had those in the past (under crowns) and they are agony until you get medication or dental treatment.

Oh I agree on the abcess front! I thought my whole face was going to explode when I had one. Just as I took the first bite of a meal I was really looking forward to when I was starving! Thankfully I managed to rush round to the dentists which I was near my office and someone saw me very quickly. I was crying with the pain. So after reading this thread, I shall not be eating popcorn anytime soon, despite seeing Joe and Steph's in Waitrose and being vaguely tempted.

Teeth!
I always think there's a real design fault there. We should grow another full new set round about our thirties, when we've got through thinking sweets are the best thing in the world as kids & realised we'd have done better to take care of them to avoid the pain & expense of getting them fixed.

they all read the forum you can tell. not surprised they mentioned about not breaking teeth. sounds silly though as now some people will want to know if they will have broken teeth. should have kept quiet

I’m not saying their popcorn breaks teeth ....just the photo of popcorn in the article that I read ....that is what I really meant of course ....don’t eat that popcorn lol
I am sure QVC popcorn is perfect :.....ok hope that message is clear

I have to be so careful ...teeth can fracture and you don’t know it ...I bit a chicken bone .....not a Qvc one I have to say ha ha ....and didn’t realise I had a very small fracture that gradually became apparent ...so it good to be aware I think ....I don’t want my hubby saying “your teeth are like stars ...they come out at night “ :mysmilie_17:

So agree! Nothing the dentist could do to me was more painful that the ruddy abscess, just like having a knife twisted in your gum. I even cried in the dentist's chair, I was in so much pain by the time I got there - felt a right twerp afterwards.

I bought the Sephs popcorn from QVC a couple of years ago - urrrggh, it was horrid. Really, really sweet and very claggy in the mouth. To be fair, I don't really have a sweet tooth (I bought it for the whisky and gin packets he he he) so maybe not for me anyway. I took it all into work and it was gone by teabreak, although saying that, if I took a barrow of manure into work with a "help yourself" notice on it it would will still be gone by teabreak.

I bought some from Holland and Barrett when it was on nm special offer I bought three different flavours and they were all truly awful and tasted very stale, have bought much tastier much cheaper popcorn in the supermarket.

This really made me laugh - so true re taking stuff into work, it's like working with a swarm of locusts, especially if there's leftovers from a client lunch!

Claggy though....yuuuuuuuk
