Anyone got one of these? Are they any good for doing a full shampoo of a rug or are they really only for cleaning up small stains and spills? We have all hard flooring downstairs, but we have a large wool rug about 5ft by 4ft which really needs a good clean. I don't want to hire or buy a big machine just to do the rug.

I don't have one but I was just watching a looping infomercial for the Bissell Crosswave and thinking that when I trade up to my palatial pad from my bijou "cottage" I could be tempted.

I think when I'm overtired shopping TV mesmerizes me; I went to stay with my sister in Canada in 1991 and with the combination of jet lag and an infomercial for a fruit dehydrator I lost a whole day til the family came home for dinner!

Does £100 for a hand held thingy seem expensive or is it just me?

Nothing celebrates Christmas Eve more than being told how grubby our carpets are!

Years ago I tended to use the machines from the dry cleaning shops. They were ok and revitalised my carpets, HOWEVER, they tended to get grubby again in super quick time. THEN the penny dropped, I needed to Scotchguard the carpets during or after they were being cleaned and what a difference it made. Yes carpets will always become grubby, but the Scotchguarding slows the process down.

Yes I have one and its great for small areas and stairs but I don't think I'd use it for anything else. For a start you'd have to be down on your knees cleaning.

Thanks, sutheli, I read reviews elsewhere that said pretty much the same thing. I think I will just have to splash out on a new rug in the sales!

It seem a bulky, heavy machine just to clean an area about the size of a cup, and have to do it kneeling on the floor as well.

The larger upright machines are not much more expensive, and they have a spot-cleaning attachment as well. And their "footprint" for storage is hardly any bigger.

Yip.... seems bit overpriced

It's on QVC so I think you can safely assume it's overpriced. Being called a "spot cleaner" I wouldn't have thought it would be good for a full rug. Bissell do loads of other products though or you could invest in a Vax type of machine. I remember years ago QVC used to sell something called the Big Green Clean Machine for cleaning carpets. One day Paul lavers accidentally kicked it over and all the chamber of dirty water sloshed out onto the carpet hahahahahahahaha!

i find carpet cleaners very heavy and ungainly. i put mine on the street never again
I have a large Bissell. I am tall so probably quite strong. I always move it to the location I want to use it in and then I fill the water container and take it to the Bissell. It is no heavier than a Dyson upright to push.
