Hi there,

I've just joined and yesterday ordered my first ring. I was amazed at the prices but very skeptical about why they were so cheap? In the end I gave it a chance and ordered because I read the user comments on here and decided it was a worth a punt. I ordered this:

http://www.colouredrocks.com/i-pd913/diamond-ring-0-27ct/

I can't believe it's reduced this much, and on the video he mentions it being 'under £500'...which i presume is an old video and it's price must have been much higher previously? What's the catch??

I so NEARLY got this instead:

http://www.colouredrocks.com/i-is574/0-50ct-diamond-ring/

but was put off by the fact the video wasn't a presentation and icouldn't get a proper grasp of it's dimensions in realtion to a finger...I love it's Art-Deco (ish) looks but it's for my girlfriends delicate little fingers so again, i wasn't sure!

has anyone had either of these rings and if so, feedback?

Thx

Daz

Hi Daz and welcome. Did you buy off CR or request? You know if you request an item from the catalogue and it goes on Rocks Auction chances are you will get it cheaper and have a chance to see it "live"?

Hi mate, thanks for the welcome!

I got it off CR. I wasn't aware of the crossover onto the show to be honest until after i bought it! ;)

If I recieve the item and are happy with it then I'll definitely be using them again so maybe i can do some requests next time!

So how are the prices so low? Like there's testimonials saying people bought things for £70 quid and it's worth £500 and stuff. there's offering a good deal and then there's giving stuff away! :)

Prices are so much lower than other places because Steve works on incredibly low margins (unlike other jewellers, in general) - he gave some huge explanation last week, with example figures! :lol

I don't have either of those rings but there are other members on here who definitely have the first ring (maybe the yellow gold version though) and love it - hopefully they may be along later to reassure you - and you do have the 30 day money back guarantee if you have any doubts at all when you receive them.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Rocks.tv and Coloured Rocks :biggrin

Hi Sara,

Thanks. Yes another reason I ordered was the comfort of the 30 day moneyback guarantee.

Can you (or anyone else) point me toward the thread where Steve explains the prices and margins etc please?

Cheers

Daz

Daz, he actually explained it all, with example figures, live on air, a couple of times last week, when he was doing a lot of presenting during the day.

Apparently it is how he ran previous businesses (eg a computer business plus others) with a great deal of success - bar one, that is! :lol

Hi daz_uk and a very warm welcome to the forum:1:

The ring you have ordered is very nice and a good buy at what you have paid.As has been said,if you can find your way to Rocks.tv you can then take part in the live online auctions and request pieces you are interested in and get them for less than the website prices(hopefully, you'll never pay more though). That is not to say that you still have not got a great deal, you certainly have as I don't believe you could source an 18k diamond gold ring with over 1/4 carat of diamonds for anything like the price you have paid on the high st.

As to how they can sell items for such good prices........by buying the gemstones at source, using their own designers(Steve's wife Sarah is one of them) and their own people to manufacture,I believe it is done in India, then bringing the jewellery direct to the customer, not through an shop where the rent and rates are high, and not on a live tv channel, which is also expensive and also by working to lower margins...........all this means a great deal is given to us the customer.

You have 30 days to decide if you want to keep it,maybe go and get a valuation, you will find, more than likely, that it will be valued for much more than you have paid.

The most important thing of course is does you girlfriend like it,if she has dainty fingers then I think the 1st one will be more suited as it's a daintier design, also it will be easy to get the ring resized to fit due to the setting. The 2nd one has channel set stones so will be more limited on resizing(if indeed resizing is needed),resizing can be done for a flat fee of £10,details are included when you receive your piece.

Hope this helps you a little bit and maybe we will get to see you in rocks.tv chat sometime.

Hey sweetpea,

Thanks for the useful info! Also thanks for making me welcome, I'll take all your advice on board and hopefully i'll see you all soon.

Yes, I'm glad i went for the daintier looking ring, i think it's prettier than the other one and as long as it looks good in 'real-life' then I'm happy!

Thx again

Daz

I've yet to dip my toe in the water yet, I'd like a big black agate type silver ring but haven't seen one aired yet!

Daz I bought an Alexandrite ring from Gems.TV when it was started and formerly owned by Steve for £176. I had it valued by Safeguard at £2800. He pares away the costs and bargains are to be had. Be careful and research your top end buys.

Welcome Daz!
I hope your girlfriend loves her ring - can't see why she wouldn't, it's lovely!!
I haven't seen either piece in the flesh, but I have spent a fortune with Rocks and I can say hand on heart that the quality of their jewellery is fantasic.
I can also vouch that if you do return things, there's no aggravation and a fairly swift refund (I think my last one took about a week). They also have the world's best Customer Services, so if you're not happy, they'll try their best to make you so!
Word of advice, never give your girlfriend your credit card and the Rocks website address... lol
