I bought some of these a few months ago and just wondered if anyone else had tried them because one of them lasted less than a day and oozed all over the car, whereas the one that's in there now has been in the car for longer than it should have been and there's loads left.

Both were placed in the same place in the car. I'm just wondering if the remaining ones will either last for months or self destruct in a matter of hours ..... or was I just unlucky with the 'oozy' one?

i love YC, but am not thrilled about the car fresheners. My friend had one in her car, and the car was filled with too much aroma!! Sickening... She told me later the smell only lasted a couple of days
I like my car smelling of..... car lol
the scent in such a small place can give me a headache too.
I know this is probably not very helpfull....sorry!

I have had one and it lasted ages,I prefer the gel ones rather than the ones made of cardboard,in my opinion they smell great for a few days and then the smell wears off
it looks like there may be some vanilla gel ones in the tsv on Friday this week
never had one that leaked so you must've been unlucky!

Have never put an air freshener in my car or smelled the Yankee one but with you on this. Friend of mine had one and used to make me feel quite ill.

Don't see the need really, so long as you clear rubbish and keep clean cars don't really smell do they? I've never got in anyones car and thought it smelt anyway! Guess the exception is if you transport dogs or smoke.

I had the same problem, wasn't pleased at all it was sooo sticky and hard to get rid of.

I always have one in mine and my hubbys cars - they are lovely. I too prefer the gel ones to the cardboard, and have never had a problem with either. Have vanilla and lime in mine at the moment - it is lovely.

I just like the nice waft of scent when you get into a car. But it is obviously a personal thing. Some people don't burn candles in their houses - I have them going all the time at home as I like the soft aroma - hate the synthetic smell of other air freshners. We are all different.

I have some of the cardboard fresheners at the mo and this morning had to remove the first one I'd put in the car, I love the smell but it was hurting my hubby's eyes. Went on a 400 mile weekend away 2 weeks ago and there were 4 of us who all ended up with sore eyes and throat and I'm sure it was that. It's lovely having the nice smell but not worth the discomfort, got to be the close proximity. Going to put them in the bathroom now.

Well, I don't smoke and I haven't got a dog and I've not got any rubbish in my car ;) but I'll admit to bowing to the hype when I saw them on QVC. I can detect a faint aroma when I sniff hard, but I really tried them because I'd not tried any of YC products before.

The life of the air fresheners (they're the gel ones) just seemed a little random. The one in there now has been going for about 4 months and there's loads left, and the one that preceded it disappeared in a pile of goo in less than 24 hours. Somehow I don't think I'll be re-ordering any.

I use the cardboard car jars in my bathroom, I hang one on the toilet roll holder and then whenever the rolls whizzes round when in use you get a bit of pleasant aroma wafting.

Fragrances vary though, Vanilla Cupcake and Vanilla Lime last literally only a day but Sweet Strawberry lasts quite a while. Cherry Lemonade is very faint too.

I've tried 2. Hubby bought a peach one and it lasted for ages so I bought a sun and sand but the smell dissappeared after a few days. Not sure if I'll bother with another as I'm not fond of the foody ones

Funnily enough we replaced the one in our car yesterday morning with "Spring Bouquet" and it is rather strong, not too sure I like it really but it's useful for when we've walked Maisie and she's decided to go for a paddle!!! Can't remember the previous one but it lasted for absolutely ages.

My all time favourite has to be MacIntosh Apple as it reminds me so much of my childhood, coming home from school to the smell of Mum baking apple pies and crumbles - such lovely memories.....:1:

Mines a sun and sand one that I have now in the bathroom and it's so strong, no wonder it overwhelmed us in the car. Smell it all over the landing. It's quite good for in the bathroom but don't know how long it will last.

Hi All,

I too find them very overpowering and thought I would share my tip with you.

Instead of these try putting a Tumble Dryer sheet under the passenger seat they work a treat are CHEAP and easily replaced ! !

Let's face it, all these chemicals from various air fresheners, floating around in our personal space is very uncertain. We don't know what any long-term effects might be or what harm can be caused when mixing one with another, i.e. air freshener plus carpet freshener. What's wrong with simple clean?

Thanks for that tip......sounds like a brilliant idea! Off shopping in a minute so I'll put some on my list as I haven't got any at the moment.

Right on argeybargey, right on! Clean inside your car - maybe put a tied bunch of dried lavender, or some of those small muslin cushions of dried lavender, somewhere suitable in the car. The fact that some of you are mentioning not feeling well from such things, is really saying something...

I deliberately kept my comments before to how I personally felt because know we are all happy to accept different things but in reality there are many questions out there about our polluting our air with these smells. So yes if you can use a natural freshener then that must be a good thing all around. The lavender idea is a good one - unfortunately I dislike it but for those who don't!

You only have to read the side of some products to see that they say keep away from acquatic pets etc to wonder about their toxicity :(

I cut down on a lot of cleaning products generally a while back & stopped buying stuff like air-fresheners completely! I now use a lot of natural things like white vinegar etc. for cleaning purposes & our brufen consumption for headaches seems to have gone down considerably for a start!

:20:I didn't buy my freshener because my car was smelly, I got it to have a nice smell! Theres a difference. And yes, once I put two and two together I removed it immediately, it's great when people think you have no intelligence and don't do anything about it.
