Oh well - looks like the end of Gems as we knew it. I just hope the staff aren't too badly affected again. xx

Feel sorry for those presenters getting p45's

Hi Argey:wave2:
Quite right I'll bet there are some presenters given their p45's over this closure..
Things must be bad to close GTV2 channel and leave the GTV3 loop channel going, and utter nonsense that they are going to concentrate on the main channel GTV1, it's the recession why cant they be honest:cheeky:

Such an incredible shame but something I think we all half expected?

I do hope that staff won't be affected, they've had a rough ride of it over the past few years and this is going to be exceptionally worrying.

I also hope that during any reorganisation GemsTV make, the management will take time to read shopping telly because everybody has made constructive comments, especially over the past 18 months and I'm sure they could win back customers but NOT by adhering to the existing formula that hasn't worked (judging by the commments on this forum).

Seems like sound business sense to me - Gems 2 hasn't been running full-time for ages, and they must have figured out that, given the recession and the amount of competition, the market couldn't support two channels.

All though this channel is nowhere near as fun as it used to be in terms of presenting style - Rocks TV is really the only channel that has that now - IMO the jewellery designs on Gems have improved immeasurably over the past few months. This suggests to me that they are making a real effort, and are not about to go under. I hope I'm right.

It continues to amaze me, however, that THREE dedicated (well, almost) TV jewellery channels plus an online one can continue to survive in the present economic circumstaces. Any bets on which one will go under first? Perhaps someone should start an online poll...

If Gems morphs into Ye Olde Gift Shoppe, then the others will have less to worry ab out. I did wonder if Gems was pulling away from the manufacturing side given the amount of old tat - oops bought in goods, they have been testing on us.

This sale goes on until the weekend and I shall be interested to see what they have for us then, if anything.

Mind you though, on the subject of old tat, I love my Saddlers purse, but the aquamarine poppy ring and pendant were very disappointing and then later on the same day I had received them they went for £20 each less. £40 down on a £200 sale is too much for me and destroyed any risk of me wondering should I keep them for gifts, etc.

I just hope that they don't dessimate and stress the folk behind the scenes, and if any presenters go that they make the right decisions this time. xxx

I mentioned about why didnt they close GTV2 on Monday 13/7,( its in the Has anyone else received a letter? post). At least now they will have one channel to concentrate on, and perhaps they will not have to resort to selling all the faux tat that they have been flogging. Think the recession has bitten, I suppose for them it is better to downsize, less is more, better to have one channel presenting live, than none at all, the presenters will be ok - they will just have to reshuffle and juggle about a bit; and any way it seems that presenting GTV for most of them is not their only job.

:star: Talking of presenters, I see Nick was on today, but i havent seen Angeline, for ages. And any news on Fi, has she had her baby yet? :glass: :talking::happy: xx

As for Fiona there is still no news...apparently thats why there are 2 presenters sometimes when scotts been on incase he has to leave urgently....
They have said as soon as Fiona has the baby they will let everyone know!

I feel heartily sorry for the staff, but is anyone surprised?

Management has bulldozed through, refusing to listen to their customers. It's a risky tactic in healthy financial times; absolutely suicidal in the current climate.
