<img src="/images/gtvmain.jpg" border="0" alt="GemsTV" title="GemsTV" hspace="4" vspace="1" align="right" />Rod Jinks and Drew Nicholls have been made redundant following the closure of GemsTV2.<br /><br />An official statement has been released by GemsTV:<br /><br />"Due to the closure of Gems TV2 which is now our Deal of the Day channel, very regrettably a number of jobs have been made redundant, including studio staff and presenters Drew Nicholls and Rod Jinks. Both Rod and Drew are keen to explore other opportunities and wish to express that they and GemsTV have parted amicably. We wish them every success in future. Both Drew and Rod would like to thank all the customers who have watched and enjoyed the last four years and thank viewers who have wished them well."<!--StartSdNewsForum--><br /><br />

What a huge shame not just for Rod and Drew but also for the others who have lost their jobs. :(

Good luck and my best wishes to all, and thank you for letting us know.

Argey

Well I'm very sorry to hear that and wish them both all the very best for the future.

I wonder how the selection process worked because there are a lot of others I would be letting go before either Rod or Drew - unless of course they chose to go. IMHO Gems TV won't be around for long in any form.

As it was Rod and Drew who left, I guess that Gems would have been looking for voluntary redundancies. If it was amicable, I really can't see why Gems were so furtive about it. What a shame that some of the ones that are left didn't have the decency to volunteer though!
Mind you, with just one channel they only use 4 presenters a day and currently still have 14 on the presenters' page - there might yet be more to go.

There you go again Klos, spreadin' that old sunshine around :sun: <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D4%252F4%255F1%255F112%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_112.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D4%252F4_1_112%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xxx

I do wonder why they are having days and days of this meltdown so soon after their ultra clearance. Are they trying to grab our attention now that Gems2 has closed down in the hope that we'll stay with them afterwards? They are clearing some old stock, but looking at the numbers of Tahitian Pearl bangles they've been selling, I can't help feeling that many items were brought in specially for this event.
Anyone care to speculate as to the reasons for this cut-price frenzy? (Steady on now Argey, I'm just about to have my dinner!)

I feel sorry for all those affected by this redundancy and hope that they'll be able to secure new jobs very soon. Let's hope Gems can keep going during these turbulent times, so that no more jobs are lost.

emailed them yesterday to say that they at least could give their customers the courtisy of informing them what is happening instead of the presenters just dissappearing into the ether at least we know now but i personally think that it is strange they are supposed to be doing so well but their clearance goes on and on to MAKE ROOM FOR NEW STOCK their sales must have been really crap to have so much old stock that the clearance has gone on so long

Well Argey at least I'm predictable if nothing else!

OK I'll make a promise now just for you Argey - I promise I will not post anything negative for a period of one week from now! Just wait until then though, I'll have loads to say :giggle:

6 days 23 hours and 59 minutes to go ..............

Good luck to both of them.

It's a shame that two of the most experienced and longest-serving presenters have gone. If they're getting rid of them by seniority (and so presumably by wage-packet) does that mean it's Nick and Angelina and Lynn next? I guess we won't know till it's happened.

I honestly don't think it's our business to demand explanations. If Rod and Drew had wanted it to be made public, they would have announced it themselves before they left. They will have had to give GemsTV the go-ahead to do so otherwise the Company are not allowed to say anything.

Whilst I appreciate that people are feeling the loss of two well respected presenters, it's up to those who are leaving to tell us if they want us to know. Shouldn't we respect that instead of demanding explanations? End of.

Rant over.

I personally believe that the viewers should be told, this site was originally started because Debbie Flint just vanished from Ideal World and almost 9 years later its still happening.

IMO it would have been polite of Rod and Drew to pop on here themselves, they can't expect loyalty from viewers if they don't treat them with respect.

Graham - some people prefer to keep what is happening in their private lives, private. Shouldn't we respect that? I've met Drew and found him to be lovely but I wouldn't expect him to tell me what was happening in his life. I have absolutely no right to ask or demand that. I don't even expect my friends to do that! If people want to tell us things, they will. If they don't, we should respect their privacy.

I understand your point but I believe we are overstepping the mark by demanding to be told. It would be nice BUT if the people involved don't want to tell us, so be it! I won't lose respect for either of them. It's none of my business. I'm sad to see them go and wish others had gone before them, but they have their reasons and I respect that.

IMO it's intrusive and impertinent to demand explanations about somebody's private life. Their roles were in the public domain but anything to do with them personally is absolutely none of our business - so for example, should we be told how much they earn? How many days annual leave they get? No. It's private between them and the Company and I feel the same way about their redundancy. I'm sorry to disagree but I feel very strongly that there is a boundary between what should be public and private.

I'm not going to stop watching GemsTV because of this. Sorry to buck the trend and voice a different opinion but I feel very very strongly about this - perhaps you've guessed?
