BE foundation help

That's a shame you got that reaction and that it seems to have sensitized you to your LE. I am surprised with clinique too Cazimag, especially since they've aimed the Redness Solutions at very sensitive skins - such a shame - and they made a point of not having talc in it too! The only thing I can think is that Clinique are using very refined, high grade Bismuth in their products - off-putting though!

I can't tell you how many times I've read ingredients lists in cosmetics and find the product looking really good to me, only to be let down by the inclusion of something that just puts me off it!! We consumers are getting more and more clued-up about ingredients issues from what we read about them, yet these companies just don't connect the dots!

I now am very careful to read the ingredient list so that I can avoid this happening again. To be honest I am sticking to what I know works and am not keen to experiment as the experience was so unpleasant. I like the Redness Solutions as it has helped settle my skin down.

I do not want to put people off trying BE or any other mineral make-up but knowing that a reaction to any make-up is possible is I think important.

when I read the ingredients list on the clinique one, which I was interested in trying in the anti redness version, the SA even had the audacity to argue that clinique wouldnt have added it if people reacted as all their products are 'allergy tested' whatever THAT means FFS!

I think that cosmetics companies haven't yet realised that customers are wising up as to the nature of the ingredients that go into beauty products and that they are increasingly basing their decision of whether to buy or not on the content of ingredient lists.
I have always been into make up and potions and lotions although I hadn't the first clue as to what went into them... But I have learnt so much on this forum. I couldn't begin to interpret an ingredient list on my own yet, but I am more aware of the nasties I should try to avoid, and what an eye opener it was! Thanks to what I learnt on ST, I found out that a most expensive face cream that I used to buy from my old beauty salon in Italy that prides itself of being all natural, all holistic etc. etc. was in fact full of stuff that I don't particularly want on my skin!

Following the advice of peeps here, I got myself a copy of the Green Beauty Bible, and whenever I need/want to try something new, I research the more natural/less chemical options first. And if I go for something less natural, I do so with more awareness (so, I must admit that I went for the SBC TSV, but use the gels as body moisturisers, which is fine, but would not really put them on my face). It's about time the producers and floggers of products accepted that they need to be more open and honest as to what goes into their pots!

I know the discussion has moved on a bit but could I ask a question of you mineral veterans please?
Like the OP I have been thinking of trying BE or mineral foundation in general,it then reminded me that I have some samples of Lily Lolo still to try that I got a few months back!

Do they 'go off' and will these samples still be ok to use?
Also do you use a primer or just apply over a moisturised face?
Are they easy to use?I use halo and B&B which are a breeze so I am hoping this mineral malarky will be summat similar!

I tried the BE but didnt really get on with it. after buffing it left me looking weirdly shiny, and the brush made my face itchy.

The laura geller balance and brighten though was nice and I still use that regularly

According to BE, mineral foundations don't go off like a cream would, so you should be ok. Let your moisturiser sink in first, don't try applying minerals to a damp face. The sample pots are quite small so you would do better tipping some into a lid large enough to do the 'swirl, tap, buff' - Lily Lolo also recommend this.

I've never used a primer of any sort so I can't help you there. Good luck

Never tried BE(I have the free sample which came with the Elemis TVS in Fairly Light). No intenstion of using it either, too much farting around. Give me my Eggy and liquid Sisley anyday.

Christopher Drummond expensive but the most natural of them all.

Lets be honest, sa's are trained in new products but only the wonderful things it is suppose to do. They are not told the full list of ingredients and will just repeat parrot fashion what they are told at training or what is written on the release sheet. Some comments I have heard would make you wet yourself laughing.

I've never got on with liquid foundations, I used to use the 'powder-to-cream' compact ones years ago. I much prefer the mineral types but as with everything, you can have a reaction. Sales reps are always going to avoid the question of ingredients so you need to find out for yourself and decide what you want to put on your skin.

It might be worth your while trying out a couple of American sites that ship to the UK.

Both of these come with a massive range of colours and finishes + they both allow you to order a free (or 1 cent) sample kit to try it out. And they don't include the nasty ingredients!

Only warning is that you can only order around £17 equivalent to escape the British customs charges. But, they're so much cheaper than BE that you can get a lot for your dosh. HTH

I agree with my mate Dee ( sorry Donna) CD is in fact the absolute dogs tool of mineral make up expensive but Oh so worth it for its performance

Those sites look really good, Crocus. I'm going to wait for my Bare Faced Beauty stuff to arrive and then try the American ones. I know Christopher Drummond gets very good reviews but I just can't bring myself to spend that much.

I am really angry now, when I bought this I told the Clinique rep that I didn't get on with BE because of the bismuth and now I find out it has it too :angry: The strange thing is before reading this the sides of my face started to itch this morning and I couldn't think why, I am returning it tomoz and the rep is going to get an earful. I told her I use an AHA and she said to me what's AHA :doh: I think the most of us on here are more clued up than these so called beauty experts :dull:

Sorry to quote myself but I've just reread the ingredient list and it says 'may contain bismuth' what is that supposed to mean? it either does or it doesn't

I'm sure we are, I have a friend who used to work on a make up counter in Debenhams when she was doing her degree to earn a bit of extra cash (The degree was in sociology BTW, nothing to do with beauty LOL). The only induction she got was to wear more make up and red lipstick (she is naturally very pretty and hardly wears any make up normally). She hated the job and all the slap she had to wear.

Haha I'm glad the shop was closed when I read this because I would have got escorted out of the shop by the security, I will hopefully calm down overnight
