Has anyone checked out Bid TV's facebook page?

If you want a laugh check out their facebook page. Examples are one person buying AAA tanzanite only to be told by their local jeweller that they had been conned and it was only worth a tenner!

I managed to find about 2 positive comments - 1 from a Susan Mason(maybe Mike's mum?) and err ... that was about it!

They really do suck! :thinking:

The page consists of post after post of negative comments about Bid - with many focusing on delivery, customer service and the quality of the products.

I thought we were a niche group, but it turns out that nearly everyone is dissapointed with the channel. Also interesting to see that some of the posters have said they've contacted Watchdog... It's Auction World all over again.

Hahaha! Well I never it's like deja vous on facebook reading all about their poor customers! You're spot on J, it's just like how Auction World ended up! I bought a moissanite ring from them but returned it as realised I could get cheaper elsewhere long b4 I know about this forum. Someone did call me back from Bid to say my £200 had been refunded. Blimey, having read those comments I'm going to double check!

Message to Agent Kat Baker and Moet & Muffins: you are needed as cheerleaders on the facebook page!:wink:

Appalling state of affairs. It's sad to see so many people being ripped off by a cowboy outfit. I hope Trading Standards and Watchdog catch up with them soon.

Hi, I couldn't find the comment about the tanzanite ring. Is there any way you can copy it on here? I checked out the page, and I don't know whether it's my computer but I'm finding it hard to scroll down and when I finally get to the bottom it won't reload the next page. It's working fine when I switch to this forum and other websites.

So their AAA tanzanite ring, a tenner!! Well we never saw that coming did we lol! I have to say the stone must have been very poor as the valuation is lower than even I would have anticipated. I wonder if Peter Simon, Mikey M & the others will continue to bang on about getting stuff valued in their pitches now?! The funniest bit was when the valuer allegedly said, according to the FB post comment, that it wasn't worthy of the silver setting, priceless! Good job the lady had the savvy to get it valued, better to loose a few quid than £100's! Obviously we don't know which ring it was but we've all seen some of their rings go for what I believe to be ludicrous amounts of cash!

It's like I always say, if you're looking for a real bargain in precious gems go to a specialist jeweller with a full MBG, shop around & get the item valued. If people thought for a moment, would Bid seriously be let loose to sell the prized pick of the crop from 1 mine in the world? I bought my AAA tanzanite ring from a jeweller off Ebay. They were based in New York & have been trading for over 30 years. Bought the ring for £800 & it came with a full certificate of the grading of the gem and the colour & inclusion grading of the diamond accents. My independent valuation came back at £3000 for insurance & a note to say possibly higher if sold on the open market.

Hahahaha! Really, can't imagine why lol!

The trouble with the ludicrously overpriced Tanzanite rings is that Bid cannot lose eitherway. You either keep the item (kerching) or if you decide to send it back it's all at your own expense and they have made a fair few quid on the call and/or delivery anyway and they just sell the item on to another victim err sorry customer. And if they send it back........ and on, and on.

And it works at the other end of the scale with dirt cheap items too, who would bother sending something back that cost a tenner? With what you had already shelled out for delivery (and potentially a call) if you add to that the cost of returning an item your refund would actually end up less than your costs! It's barely worth returning anything that costs less than at least £20 really, And lets face it, how many of their goods cost less than £20? Quite a lot!

It's quite a simple business model but it clearly works, only a regulator can get these people sorted out. I doubt their coffers will go bare anytime soon, not when the odds are stacked so well in their own favour.

Yeah, they seem to have removed the feature for people to just post messages on the page- presumably because they were all negative.

Some of them were really quite concerning: complaints over never receiving refunds, never receiving items, being signed up to clubs and offers which they didn't consent to, being cold called by Bid TV (looks like they may sell on your phone number once you've bought from them) and also commenting on the poor quality of the items. A few people had posted that the Yarvick tablet they kept flogging was very poor, and many many posts about other poor quality products.

I just thought I'd share the above as very few people on this site actually buy from them - so it's interesting to see the quality of service people receive when they do.

I genuinely hope Watchdog, Trading Standards, Ofcom and ASA actually take action at some point.

I heard from someone that the Yarvik they were selling before christmas didn't work with any of the 'iPlayer' type apps from BBC, ITV etc although in fairness I cannot remember them saying it would, nevertheless it's still a let down for a £200 device (if true).

You may well be right, in fact they may well work with iPlayer as it was someone in work who said it . Personally I cannot in all fairness say they do or don't.

The latest tablet computers they're selling should be able to cope with the iPlayer but earlier models may not have been capable of using it.

They really are quite stupid... because if those complaints are genuine (which I believe they most likely are!!) then they have a duty to respond and sort those issues out... not just bury them.

It shows the contempt and utter disregard they have for their 'customers'... it's a load of bollocks and the sooner they are shut down the better imo. They never learn from the ASA adjudications and just carry on like naff all has happened. They are just as bad as that idiot from Coopers Sewing Machines who was probably sleeping with Sit-up on a pile of your money + £7.99 + £1.53 phone call.
