Tattoos yeah or nay

I have a small Tattoo on my shoulder of Tinkerbell-its very pretty and means something personal to me.

As we live in the cold UK it's mostly hidden away which is fine because its just for me!
I am not a massive fan of the sleeve of tattoo's personally- and as a Midwife I have seen some awful tats in the most personal of areas which have made both laugh and be horrified at the same time including a "no entry" sign tattoo'd on a very ahem personal place lol!!!

No tattoos for me although my ex husband had loads (royal navy). I agree that a beautiful bride showing tattoos all across her chest and shoulders just looks wrong, however, if that's their thing it's not for me to say.

Personally I wouldn't get one. Too old and should I make it into more old age it would more than likely look ridiculous - although I did always fancy getting a little mickey mouse on my bum cheek lol.

That last bit made me laugh. Presumably someone took no notice of it if the woman was having a baby :mysmilie_11:

I certainly didn't mean to offend when I said it's a trend. The odd small tattoo here or there has been a 'thing' for centuries, as has been said.
The vogue for 'full sleeves' and every inch of flesh coloured in is a fairly recent trend, however, started off by supposed 'celebrities' and copied by people who wished to emulate their heroes. And in a generation or two I reckon it will have had it's day and those kind of tatts will be seen as an 'old person's thing'.
David Beckham now just looks a mess, in my opinion, especially when he's trying to dress up and play the toff! :mysmilie_19:

I've seen full sleeves and tattoos up the neck long before David Beckham did it, he make think he's the first, but he really isn't. I used to have a weekend job in our local chemist 35 years ago, and two lads (barbers next door) used to come in with tattoo sleeves and no one give them a second glance, so that will be two generations ago now, but like I say, tattooing is a personal thing and unless two people have requested the same tattoo, it would be a massive coincidence to find two people with the exact same tattoo in the exact same place, therefore making theirs unique.

It's a 'no' from the maid in Devon.

Yes, but like I said before, who gets to 'enjoy' these tattoos ? certainly the wearer cant see the back of their calf/arm/back/bum etc, so its left to me to try and read them when waiting in the queue !! -

Amy Winehouse had some dire ones, and she should have asked for a refund. Who can watch Sheridan Davies without looking at her arm full of tattoos. Regardless of opinion, visible tattoos are not acceptable in business - how many news readers do you see with tats up their neck, how many medical Consultants have a spiders web on their elbows. My family must be unique in today's society - brothers/sisters/children/grandchildren none of whom sport an inking and have no desire to do so.

I'm not keen on tattoos. The faces of babies are troubling.

LOL! I agree, Akimbo. They look like something from that Roman Polanski Film with Mia Farrow in it!

In a former life I interviewed a man who had a snake tattoo. It wound around his neck twice & then went over his head, this was shaved, ending up with its open mouth facing his mouth. He would flick a muscle in his face that made this image look as though it was going in for the kill. He seemed surprised that he couldn't find a job, this was back in the 90s & he was a head turner. We discussed self employment & he eventually opened a studio specialising in ALL forms of body alteration. Mind you he was mainstream compared to the man who had a box of artificial eyes that he could swap with spectacular sleight of hand. When I meet up with former colleagues they always end up talking about the time he put one in & placed a lense over his working eye, both were black with drops of blood, my screams brought the whole office to my desk..!

I did have a previous partner who had an A (for Alan) tattood on her right shoulder, without telling me in advance.

I often wonder whether she eventually had it erased or altered. BTW we had parted as friends and kept in touch for a long time, but have lost touch now.

EDIT: I've just noticed that I no longer have a signature and photo on the bottom of my posts, perhaps because of the revamped website?

Surely 5e ‘no entry’ one must have hurt a lot!

This is a funny one and I believe I have written it before.

I worked in the passport office for some years and George a temp suddenly started laughing(he was data entry), heard it all now he said out loud. On an application a girl had written I have a dolphin tattoo on my ankle(cannot remember if left or right now?), in case I am decapitated on holiday. We did wonder what sort of holiday she intended on going on if she was worried about decapitation? :mysmilie_17:

I like tattoos and really wish I had the guts to get one myself - however, unless you're someone whose lifestyle is unconventional, I think a facial tattoo is a definite no-no

I remember watching a programme about this chap who was obsessed with Miley Cyrus and had themed tattoos all over his body...it wasn't the best look

Oh no! To be obsessed with Miley Cyrus is bad enough, but to be that obsessed you need Miley (or any other sleb related) tattoos all over your body, no, that's just wrong.

My son`s ex girlfriend who I mentioned in an earlier post had been to art college before she trained to be a tattooist and body modifier. She literally tattooed free hand on her own body, her legs, her arms and so on. As pieces of art some of her tats were marvellous but there were simply too many of them, the whole thing was too much and she admitted that having tattoos can and does become addictive. My son had never had a tattoo until he met her and she did his shoulder and upper arm tattoo but a part of me was just a little relieved when they broke up 3 years ago because by now he could have been covered in them, not to mention all the piercings she had too and Lord knows how many of those he might have ended up with as well !
