Not sure I can smell any of those things in Sunrise - well, maybe a bit.

Yeah I reckon some lazy so and so at Q decided to pinch the description from Early Sunrise, assuming it would probably smell the same seeing as it shared one word in the name.

Yes I think you are right - it was a copy and paste job because the Portrait Sunrise is a softer, buttery/vanilla smell, not zesty and citrus at all IMHO. Nice in its own way but definitely NOT a replacement for (the lovely) Early Sunrise. ANd Rosa did indeed make the difference very clear on air.

Well I'm currently burning Christmas Thyme with Peppermint Bark; the rationale being that the tangy-ness of CT would nicely offset the soft sweetness of Peppermint Bark. I was wrong. The cloying sweetness of PB just makes the CT smell sour to my nose - not especially nice so I think I will stick with burning CT with tangy-er candles like Cranberry Chutney.

Mazza, will be very interested to hear your take when its turn comes up ;)

Haha! You will have a long wait! I never fancied the set containing the PB one and TBH cannot see it with CT, but you never know until you try do you? I have had no luck pairing Irish Cream so it is burning on its own as a daytime candle as I also couldn't put any tarts with it.... it would be unbearable. It is not too bad as a solitary. I do have Chocolate Peppermint from the Portrait range and I can't find a pair for that either. I think it would have gone with something wintry but I have no spares. So that is going to be a daytime one over Xmas. That leaves All Is Bright as my only unmatched jar (Bachelor Number 1) but I think that is not festive and will go with something lemony or perky from next year's crop.

I have Irish Cream too. I'm going to try and sell it as there is no way I'm letting Silver Birch slip from my clutches! I reckon it would go with Rhubarb Crumble, or another foodie but tart fragrance like Sweet Apple.

The sets are very appealing - love the accessories and the scents too - but some of the photo's are extremely misleading!!
Whole boxfuls of votives photographed when only 4 of each scent are included, and one of the tealight sets shows 7 boxes when only 6 are in the set.... and by the time you add the postage charge - they are barely less that buying direct from the Yankee Candle website.
What a shame... sloppy QVC!

I have just spotted that debate on their FB page. They are showing the boxes of melts AND votives that they send out to retailers, so 24 or 18, in each scent rather than just the 4 or 5 you get in each one. Blimey, you would get over 100 melts on that basis! Sloppy work there by the photography department!

Can Stephen or Rosa tell us what has happened to the votives and why they have no scent when you burn them? I got a lovely set for Christmas with a holder and votives. Open the box, smells divine, unwrap the votive, smells delicious, light the votive, no scent. Even Mr CC said "I thought those Yankees were supposed to be scented candles". Why don't they smell of anything when you light them?? Explanation needed. Do they just paint the scent around the outside of a wax block? The very thing they say they DON'T do. The gift wasn't from QVC so I can't send it back either. Disappointing.

I stopped buying votives years ago because I thought they had no throw at all. Then I got that Boots Gift Box and so had two Bundle Up votives which I thought were really strong and I could smell them very clearly. So it is a mystery to me, or more like a lottery perhaps!

I purchased the set of 8 home fragrance spheres just before Christmas. It is no exaggeration to say they have no fragrance at all, not even when placed in a cupboard. They are completely pointless. My worst purchase ever from Yankee.

I bought two sets of those for my Dad at Xmas which he's taken home with him so I can't even return them, not a happy bunny to hear this as all the reviews say the same thing as I can now see :(

Considering Yankee have had a price increase as of January 1st it is very poor that there are so many complaints about items these days, prices up quality down.................not good!!! In some case prices are up 20%!!! Will be interesting to see if Q's prices go up too!

I think it is a lottery too and it depends on so many things: how old the wax is, how it's stored, ambient temperature, probably where you buy from, what the actual fragrance is, how keenly attuned your nose is to particular fragrance notes, etc. I have a set from QVC which included Cherries on Snow votives and they are super-strong (fortunately, I love CoS!). I can smell them in other rooms.

I think that's a given - they certainly went up last year.

on the whole since i have been buying votives from a yankee store 99% are strong. it depends on how long they have been hanging around. that must be true as the new releases usually are fresh and smell the best
