Yes it's miss Martha Stewart. She sends fresh faced youngsters to th UK to sell her wares but lets not forget that she is a convicted crim huh? Yes she did 5 months in the clink and 2years probation for conspiracy, and for lying to the Feds. Not pretty.

A conspirator and a liar. Enjoy your purchases!

Ooohh that sounds a very harsh, only when we are totally squeeky clean ourselves can we cast asspursions on others. And as there isnt such a thing as squeeky clean, then theres the answer. Everyone makes mistakes, its learning from them that is the challenge!Everyone does something they would rather forget in their lives and im sure this is somthing she would rather leave behind.

She did her time, in 2004 she was convicted of several counts of obstruction of justice related to sale of shares, she was also barred from serving as a director for 5 years on a public company. Today she has been re-elected as non-exec chairman on her company.

Yet the UK won't let her in but are quite happy to give well known terrorists safe haven!

My conscience is clear if I buy the odd punch ;)

Always amazed me how the UK can not allow in convicted criminals of any kind - even tax avoidance 'criminals' which have been convicted in court, but have them on benches on/in Parliament
But well put Gourangao, I was thinking it, but could not put it in words

People make mistakes that is why the rehabilitation of offenders act 1974 allows people not to disclose some offences for which they were convicted. Are we to penalise someone who made a mistake at 18 for the rest of their lives? OK Martha Stewart should have known better but I have run a limited small company in the past and some of the professional advice I received was completely illegal.

Funnily enough I had a letter from the Inland Revenue yesterday saying that they were checking my self assesment form for the last tax year. I rang them immediately and it turned out that I had filled in box 9.2 instead of 9.1 which resulted in me owing them £720. They told me that they would not impose a penalty this time (I didn't ask how much) as they considered it a genuine mistake. I had to pay £23.00 interest as it was backcalculated to Jan 2012. The tax officer did say that some people made deliberate mistakes in order to avoid tax so there are some baddies out there.

I had wondered why I got a tax rebate and had happily spent it on QVC thus justifying my high QVC spend this year.

I agree with the majority here. Martha Stewart was convicted, did her time. And life goes on. I'm not saying what she did was not important, but she's not a child killer, is she? Are we absolutely sure that all the guests etc who have ever appeared on QVC don't have any skeletons in their past? Of course not.

Mr Lime Tree Pantry was a convicted criminal sentenced to a month in prison too. A rather unpleasant (I was going to say unsavoury) case of perverting the course of justice similar to Chris Huhne.
Martha, who cares Alex the guest rocks

and remember Martha did craft some beautiful mail bags when she was inside.

I have about a dozen of her decorating/interior design/cookery books and they are fabulous! (bought second-hand, AbeBooks). Addictive! Looking at the ideas, I alternated between, "Wow, that's so simple, I never would think of that!" and "That's so smart, I never would have thought of that!" And if you lend them out, keep a record of who has which, 'cause you might not get 'em back! It's a Good Thing! (her catchphrase)

Nothing against her products, but as the ultimate domestic goddess, her conviction has left rather a large stain on her character  She was already rich, but wanted to be just a little bit richer - nothing but pure greed. Am glad she sends over the lovely Alex tho'!

In the grand scheme of things she is small fry compared to some of the more serious stuff that goes on.

How about some people in government who commited (mass) fraud with the expenses scandal... yet just went on telly with a big fat check, repaid it and nothing else was said (Hazel Blears anyone)?

Oh yes, some MPs were made an example of but they probably got out early or put on a 'thinking skills' course like most criminals these days.

How about folk who claim benefits they are not entitled to yet only end up with a suspended sentence and a repayment plan of £1.00 a week?

Whilst I'm not condoning what Martha has done, by the sounds of it she has served her time and has got back on track by all accounts. There are other folk out there who have 100's of convictions yet nothing is done about them because the law sucks. The scales of justice has a brick on one side and a feather on the other if you ask me.

That is all.

/rant off.

The irony is that it was the disgraced Labour Home Secretary Jacqui Smith (who fiddled her rent expenses and charged us taxpayers for her bathplug and the husband's porn among other things) who ruled that Martha Stewart, even though she'd served HER time, was an undesirable and shouldn't be allowed to visit. Now wash your hands.....

It's not the size of the crime that matters surely, it's the intent behind it. I agree with fulhamphil -this woman built an entire industry around a concept of being the perfect homemaker. She was white middle class Americas poster girl, but she got greedy and defrauded her country then lied through her teeth about it when caught. So no, I don't think she should be allowed here, same as the US wouldn't let me in there if I'd done the same. As has been pointed out we have enough trash in this country, we should be concentrating on addressing that, not being even more lenient.

And don't forget, every item you buy off MS has been imported. It does nowt for our economy.

I guess it's whether or not you believe the prosecutors (they have their own agenda, can't go after others so go after Martha) or Martha and her people's version. They couldn't convict her of a crime but got her for "lying" to the FBI ... politicians lie (and do worse) all the time to the country but few are held accountable for their actions. She lost money in that situation as did a few other shareholders but the stock quickly rebound. I suppose she calculated the time, cost and effort of appealing the decision and decided to get on with it by doing a deal. It's done all the time ... sadly for those who cannot afford to fight. But she could but why drag the brand and her name through the courts and the news and waste time fighting when it could all be overwith quicker by doing a few months. People really like Martha and see what happened for what it was ...
