No more 'mum'

I grew up in Northern Ireland and my parents were Mummy and Daddy to me. When I moved to England in my twenties I learned very quickly that people thought I was either posh, or childish. I soon referred to my parents as Mum and Dad to my English friends, and Mummy and Daddy when I went back for a visit. I definitely think it’s a regional thing.

Now I think about it, when I was at college there was a girl from Northern Ireland and she always referred to "mummy" and I didn't think anything of it but it would sound ridiculous coming from me!
