"Who is not happy with the "old" chit/chat room Idea

I remember a couple of times when i have been on rocks tv and read the chat and i must say it did remind me of being at school abit. I find it quite amazing that people are getting so nasty, and or upset, its a jewellery website and shouldn't cause anyone any upset at all IMHO.
I thnink the chat room thing is a bit of a double edged sword, whilst it has its good points, it also seems to bring the worst out in some and turns a bit playground like, upsetting people etc. I haven't found the chat appealing at all, if anything that, plus a certain presenter has made me less likely to go onto the rocks tv site. Its a shame as in principle the chat room is a good idea, but in practice if people are being upset then i guess maybe its not so good.

It was all a bit beyond me really - was it just the change of chat rooms that caused all the bad feeling? I honestly thought I must be missing something else because so many people were so cross.

you can still interact with the presenters on jewellery related chat though can't you? on the normal chat room, just not on random chat, is that how its now working? if that is the case i don't think rocks tv see you as second class at all, i am sure they are just trying to keep all customers happy, old and new. :)

Although what you say is valid, I think there are several reasons why the new system leaves many of us feeling dissatisfied.

We enjoy Rocks because it had a uniquely family feel because IMAO - in no particular order
a) we enjoy buying bling
b) we quite like talking about it
c) we also like chatting about other things as well (yes, I am aware that sometimes it goes on for too long but we usually stop if asked)
d) we enjoy interacting with the presenter not necessarily just about jewellery
e) we enjoy friendly banter with the presenter (with the emphasis on friendly and again, yes, I am aware that sometimes it goes on for too long but we usually stop if asked)

As a relative newbie I have tried to analyse what makes the Rocks experience so special for me and this is what I've come up with.

I am aware that our friendliness and banter amongst ourselves can make us seem like a clique at times - I felt the same just a few weeks ago.

However I think we try very hard to make new customers feel welcome and try to give any information that is needed and that we have acquired.

I for one remember very clearly how daunting it all was when I went into chat the first few times - I had never been in a chat room before. I also remember how very welcome I was made to feel by people whom I still actually have no idea who they are or what they do in real life.

This is what makes me sad about the new system as I feel that something unique is in danger of being lost.

It wasn't helped by the fact that the technology wasn't working smoothly so that attempting to chat was a frustrating affair - and I think many of us were on for much of the day hoping for improvements.

As a teacher I fully understand your reference to the playground!

IMAO in the 4 + weeks I have been going into chat, playground spats have only happened a couple of times - and like playground spats are usually over very quickly.

Personally I try to keep chat on a light and fairly superficial level - although occasionally a little more depth and thought has been required.

It seems as though there's been some sort of dodgy "event". PLEASE can someone enlighten me, can't stand missing any goss.

To fill you in Argey, someone came on a couple of times before being banned finally. He obviously thought it was a gay dating site and was obnoxiously persistent and blatantly open in his come-ons towards Jamie and Haydn and apparently any other male (I left during the first episode).

Katherine eventually took action to ban him but I do think it was allowed to continue for longer than necessary after it became apparent that it was not the usual harmless banter.

Hope this fulfills your need for goss lol

Well what a Night of change and ups and downs for all
I agree with the posts and also feel that perhaps a note on here might of been a good move on their part...forwarned is forarmed etc.....
though i guess things dont remain the same and for whatever their real reasons i guess we just have to get on with it.
I have been there since day one and have enjoyed the unique family it has provided and thefriends i have made not to metion the copious amount of bling i now own!!!!!
But after watching the chat in the last few days i have felt quite uncomfortable not only for me butalso the presenters ..a few unsavoury characters have come along and spoilt things ....Steve at the end of the day doesntneed our permission in how he runs things or changes things and if they have done this to protect themselves and the presenters then fair enough .after all they are so vulnerable to alot out of their control and have to stay proffesional i know i wouldn,t wantany of my family subjected to anything unsavoury at all...
Its just where do you draw the line ?
I shall miss the interactivity that we had and i guess they will too but life's too short .xxxx
could of been handled better but cant change that now

Hi Everyone... "Happy easter to you all!

I feel I must reiterate the reason I started this thread It was to say...
that this two way chit/chat room is of old origin, and it didn't work then
and i can't see it working now!!....
infact last night only goes to prove that on day one of bringing it back..that it isnt working.. infact the opposite has been acheived...
there are now two rooms to monitor any abuse of chat....
so if chat was fine all these months....why try to fix something that wasn't broke!!

Hope all ends well for everyone...and hope that all aired views are taken into account by Rocks, and that we can all get back to the friendly interaction and chat we all once had.

I have logged on rocks and have had general chat on chat without it being moved! So maybe there is a compromise.

I was thinking yesterday after I logged out how Carol and other presenters have always claimed that it would be boring if they only spoke about jewellery and how they tend to make their shift entertaining for us the customers. Surely same should go for the chat! Only my opinion. Would love to see rocks post to this thread.

Chat Room

hi all,

we felt it necessary to change the chat format after a barrage of complaints during the last few weeks and from several customers who said they had stopped buying due to the improper use of chat.

I have had a long discussion with the team back in the UK and we will make a few more changes after the bank holiday, based on your feedback on ST and the emails we have received. If you have any suggestions feel free to email me [email protected].

I also hear what you are saying about lack of new product, we have introduced over 200 designs over the last 10 days and are introducing over 2000 new pieces before the summer is over. We have also acquired both a Swiss and Italian brand and will be introducing these shortly.

best wishes and happy Easter

Steve, Sarah, John and the team at Rocks

Thank for your reply Steve.

I cannot believe the amount of moaning in the "chitchat" today. I went in and suggested they e-mail instead of moaning on the chat and got told they had. So why keep moaning? Why not just put up with it and know that come Tuesday the Rocks team will try and sort things, moaning continually won't get anything done any quicker.

I am probably not very popular now but I don't care!!!!

PQ Thanks for your great post and opinion, no one hates you lol:1:
I just think the point I've been trying to make has been missed along the way....
My point was that the 2 chat rooms is an old idea from when rockstv first started last year, and didnt work the first time around! so can't see it working a second time.
It doesn't seem to be doing sales any favours tonight.:33:

Mirabelle.

The main point is the buzz aint there no more. The presenters look like lost sheep,Both chat rooms are as lively as an extinct volcano.Im really surprised at the change to be honest, why change something that was working very well.

If what ive heard is right and its about what was said in chat then why was this person not banned sooner??Yes we like to have a bit off banter and we know when too stop, but changing this without talking too the masses that pour money into the company is so so wrong.

I hope this is reconsidered as i think this is a backward step.Come on Steve, you say you value your customers....................try talking to us,get the feeling of what we all think.

lol Sazza - the only trouble with "putting up with it" until Tuesday is that the assumption then becomes that because people have stopped moaning they have got used to it and therefore can stay - that unfortunately is what the voice of experience is telling me.

Maybe I'm being cynical - I can hope to be pleasantly surprised but won't hold my breath.

I agree sazza, i can't believe that people are moaning full stop, or getting so worked up. mountain and mole hill come to mind! surely there are more important things to get would up about in the world that how many chat rooms are on a jewellery website. I don't mean to upset anyone, but isn't this all abit silly now and has gotten blown out of proportion.

Well Rocks have said they will deal with things after the holiday weekend so they will have the e-mails people have sent so in my opinion there is no need for people to keep going on about. :54:

Whilst I too am now bored rigid by the "moaning", Catz is absolutely right in that to put up and shut up will simply be read as tacit acceptance/agreement. So moaners - you're driving me crazy, keep up the good work. Just be very careful that they don't have to bring in the riot police. <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D8%252F8%255F4%255F54%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/8/8_4_54.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D8%252F8_4_54%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a>

I can see your point, but i don't think that by doing this steve doesn't value his customers, clearly its customers who have been emailing him and complaining as he said in his reply on here. If Steve and the rocks tv team are recieveing complaints then surely they have to do something to remedy that, and they clearly thought that having two chat rooms was the solution. Perhaps if you gave it a bit longer you'd get used to it, after all, sometimes these things just take a bit of patience. I am sure if you gave it a reasonable ammount of time, if it wasn't working then rocks tv would look at things again, but surely you need to give it a fair go.

well im furious! how dare someone tell me what I can talk about!!im 44 not 4 yrs old, and as for ur chat being thrown out of rocks in to chit chat well, thats ridiculous. rocks have really shot themselves in the foot with this! it was poorly thought out, and badly implemented. nobody likes it, well that ive seen, its antagonized the main customer base, when there was absolutely no need for.All in all a disgraceful way to treat your customers.

I completely agree Moonie....It is an absolutely ridiculous way of treating adult customers! When rocks first started Steve said the whole ethos of the chat room was to get a personal interaction with customers and it was what set rocks.tv apart from other gem channels. I agreed with this and it was the main reason I spent so much money...it was different and enjoyable. Now it seems that ROCKS only want to interact with people if the subject is jewellery...well what’s the point in that! I can shop at GEMS TV if all I wanna hear about is jewellery!!!!

I for one am surprised that this has been actioned on a bank holiday weekend, without even some sort of survey of existing customers to gauge the response beforehand! Poor choice Rocks and I am one customer that’s gone for good if this appalling change stays!

Ok rant over ....at least we still have ST to chat normally :1:
