'Stocking Filler'

Hmmm GemsTV are at it again. They should bring out a dictionary of what they think words mean. To me a stocking filler is a paperback book that costs £3 or at a stretch a CD. Never in a million years would I say something for £34. Crazy.

PJ - some obviously have bigger stockings than others !:clapping: - I have pointed OH in the direction of the 29 - 39 stocking fillers and asked him to make sure my surprise is crammed to the top of all such items .......no oranges or choccie pennies will now be accepted..........I have a feeling I will be on Santas naughty list and may get coal or sticks if I am lucky :sad:

I think the whole concept of stocking fillers/tree presents is well out of hand these days. Back in my day....'ere we go A stocking filler was for the kids, and comprised of little goodies bought as extras, like choccies, yo-yo's,...little bits and bobs, and the tree present was a small token gift wrapped up, named for invited guests, or unnamed to give to someone who's dropped by unexpectedly, especially if they've come armed with a small gift for you! I've heard of people who's stocking fillers consists of items that cost as much as a lot of people would consider spending on a "main present", and those who buy "table presents" extras to open up with your xmas dinner, and they've been things like bottles of expensive perfume/aftershave! Okay, I guess, if you can really afford it, but I'm sure many folk who can't feel under pressure to do this and end up overwhelmed with debt!

I think it totally debases the value of xmas.

I happened to switch on at one point this morning and saw them doing a stocking filler item, an amethyst sterling silver bracelet for £49.

good grief................OH will faint if I tell him thats what a stocking filler is these days........... thats more than I allocate to main pressies. When the banner first appeared I tuned in with interest to see them, to see if they would amount to nice little secondary gifts for nieces - :mysmilie_468: I now dont bother......... obviously the person who came up with the idea has a much bigger bank balance than me and I would guess the vast majority of viewers

Another sales technique and to be honest I can't see peeps falling for it! May be I am wrong and it works on some.

Xmas for me is all hyped up as far as presents are concerned. Teachers presents, main presents, stocking fillers etc etc. I really would love to hear/see what each presenter gives their family/loved one for Xmas. Maybe I need to be their long lost relative :cheeky:
