It's also proof they haven't bothered to check for similar brand names. Avastin is a pharmaceutical brand name which might be familiar to patients of certain cancers (lung, colorectal, brain, breast, renal) as well as AMD.

Indeed.

This is why companies employ professionals to research names before deciding on one.

I thought the name rang a bell, and it was because a friend's mum was treated with Avastin for her AMD.

I wonder if they have applied for trademarks for it in any markets? It may get through because it's a different market sector. But there will be fragrance users who have experience of the drug, purely because there are so many of us touched by cancer directly or indirectly through friends and loved ones.

Brandon will get slaughtered in court over using the name. Copyrighting is big and can cost millions when you lose.

Hopefully he did do his homework, or got some professional advice. Pharmaceutical companies are not to be messed with, and they have big war chests for fighting copyright infringement as they have a relatively small timescale in which to recoup their investment in developing a drug so they can be utterly ruthless. A brand name gives them longer to make money, so even if the basic drug is out of copyright they probably still fight tooth and nail.

Re this new perfume line, it strikes me as rather rash to launch yet another product when there seems to be so much chaos in the company. It wouldn't surprise me if half the stresses in the company didn't come from the fact they have launched so many lines so quickly. Slow and steady wins the race!!!!! But then I am not very adventurous, nor a successful entrepreneur.

Brandon is posting strange things again, he is throwing $100 000 at instagram and Facebook in order to punish some hotel chain in London for staff being racist, people are saying that what the hotel manager said was not what Brandon posted. Brandon seems to throw a lot of money around as of recent.

I bet that the media is going to pick up on this soon, or may be this is the reason Brandon is doing it in first place.

I think it was in The Observer Magazine, but I saw a little paragraph saying look out for the new perfume range from the people behind The Ordinary brand. It didn't mention anything about the goings on so they seem to be able to keep that on the down-low! I wouldn't buy from this range at the moment because it is not clear to me how well employees are being treated. Is there a bullying culture? I know top people have been sacked (presumably that would require Board approval and not just a unilateral decision by Brandon) but I do wonder if the atmosphere is dreadful and affects everyone.

I believe Brandon owns 72% of Deciem, so he probably can make unilateral decisions, unfortunately.

AVESTAN is due to launch in autumn 2018 and you can see the products on their website now

There will be shampoo and conditioner in AVESTAN so perhaps there will be no shampoo in The Ordinary as we expected. Or may it be that AVESTAN shampoo is the one for reversing of grey hair? It seems to be more about the fragrance I think as it's the third ingredient on the list.

Brandon posted a photo on IG with a homeless person sitting in front of his opening new store in NY - this caused an outrage on IG him using it to promote his business

and Brandon started to post the screenshots of people's comments to that photo

Everything about the brand at present seems to be immersed in drama... and those who thrive on drama are fuelling the drama...!

The post about the homeless man is at least consistent with recent postings from Brandon.

It crossed my mind that these posts may be intentional to keep people talking about Brandon.
Some people voiced concerns that he looks thin in his last photos.

Has he seriously offered someone who was offended USD20,000 of products??? Or was that some kind of joke? He is bonkers. Give it to a homeless charity, would have been my response.

I don't know about the $20 000 (don't read all the posts), but he had thrown $100 000 at FB and IG to do with a racial comment made to his friend.
