A response to getting my wrists slapped last night

you know, now I have said my bit I am quite contented again..... as I said in my original post I am not trying to start a row, I never am. I think I felt bothered, needed to vent, and am not bothered any more. Does that make sense to everyone?

Can I just give a different point of view? I'm not having a dig at anybody at all by this post but just want to say that there is an alternative view point.

I hate the chat box. I've never been public about who I am on there because I wanted to remain anonymous. I actually don't like it and think there are cliques - not intentional cliques but they're there all the same just because people have become friendly. I'm not criticising because it's great to see people enjoying themselves and being part of a bigger family but it does make me prefer not to participate in chat but I do lurk and I've been with RocksTV from day 1.

I DO see how the chat box can be misconstrued and if I owned RocksTV there are times when I would love to have it there but at other times it's a poison chalice. I think that people forget when they post in chat it can be read by tons and tons of people.

Good point well made meeshoo. I like the fact that the chat box can be turned off - for those who don't want to be bored witless by my nonsense there is an alternative!! For me, I love to chat - others just want to buy bling in peace.

Personally I like reading all the chat, but I can see it could be frustrating if you are trying to find info about a piece but the chat is so numerous or fast that your enquiry gets missed by the presenter. Also maybe they wanted the chat to calm down a bit as they have two new presenters starting who may find it difficult to present, listen to the producer and sift through all the chat to find a customer who needs some info all at the same time - just a thought.

I like to have the chat box on but don't often chat myself as I think Meeshoo is right the clique's can be a bit off putting. I do think the chat box is a good thing though.

Just a little addition

I think anyone who has been with rocks since the beginning will be smiling at this thread simply because its a subject that crops up from time to time, most of us oldies on here know that the chat has had its problems from the start, of course chat goes off topic from time to time and when we are reminded by the rocks staff usually we just say sorry and move on because we are very aware of the chat rules and on occasion we all natter about other stuff the reminder is never personal so no one should feel offended .I was more upset that one of the people who took exception and said they would leave had a go at another chatter just for saying that Adrianna was in her rights to pull the chat back to gems.I dont think just because someone spends a lot of money with rocks should ever feel the have the upper hand as the rules are the rules and we need to try and stick to them otherwise the chatbox will go and rocks did set up the chit chat for people to go and chat about other things if they wish to .

Hi Milly, yeah your'e spot on I'm smiling, I just thought I would add the following, as I've said many a time on this subject from previous chat problems...
Anyone who is offended or doesnt like what they read should use....

"Turn off the chat button!!! It's always been there...

I know I go off topic lots although I give measurements and so on, I'm afraid I know I couldn't talk just gems alone for 6 to 12hrs at a time, and as I predicted would happen when chit room was reopened....it would become unused in the end.. and a waste of time...from what I see everyone likes to chat in the one room...

I do hope it all blows over...lifes too short..

love,

In answer to your question Mand, I've been a bit poorly this last month,
I picked up the dreaded swine flu and the winter vomiting/diahorreah Norovirus bug together, It well knocked me for six...I thought my number was up lol....

Don't worry though I'm just about coming through the other end, although I still look like death warmed up and a bit weak I'm ok!

thanks again to you and spindrift for your kind words...

I hardly ever participate in Chat, but I do sometimes read it. I happened to be reading it the other night and was surprised that some people were so upset about being reminded about the Chat rules by Adrienna (although I missed the actual telling off and the banter that had gone before it).
As an outsider coming in late, I must say that the chatters seemed to take it awfully personally and their reactions were consequently rather ott. I'm sure Adrienna would be really upset at people's response as she was only doing her job and would never have wanted to cause any offence.
If you'v been with Rockstv from the start, you'll be aware of the various problems that the Chat has thrown up and all the reasons the Bennetts feel they need to moderate it when it goes too far off topic. They are really very lenient with their own rules and allow a lot of banter, but as with any similar situation (and this is the teacher in me coming out) you do occasionally need to remind and rein in, otherwise it would just get more and more out of hand.
I know we all say things we shouldn't when we are upset, but just because as a customer you spend a lot of money somewhere, it doesn't mean you can make up your own rules. You just need to be treated with respect and given the best customer service possible. And surely this is what Rockstv delivers in abundance and far and away above virtually any other company?

Well said Jacqualina. I think it's perhaps easier for us to understand who have been there from the start and witnessed the, errrrrrr, tensions.

Mirabelle - I think your contribution is great. From the little I've seen you're incredibly helpful and welcoming. It's people like you that make chat work.

oooo I remember those days!!! 3 rising price auctions at a time, multiple items going for £0 and Oh My Goodness, the JEWEL in the crown was the tensions in the chat....eh sis!!!!!! hee hee!!! ...think you all know what I mean!!!

I think that anyone that was there when it all happened (I think Rocks had only been going for a few months at the time) absolutely agrees that Rocks handled it well. As Jacqualina says, they do not enforce their own rules half the time to ensure we are all happy - to their cost too! As was mentioned, they lost a MAJOR marketing opportunity with a huge internationally renowned magazine because of the subjects being discussed in Chat...and yet they still let us bend their rules and awful lot!!

I think we all need to remember that the chat isn't a fun filled IM service - its part of a business, and while I absolutely, 100% agree that if it were solely limited to gems and jewellry I wouldn't be able to watch for more than an hour at a time, we also need to remember that every now and again, if things become a wee bit too rambunctious, Rocks ARE going to remind us of the rules, and rightly so.

Thank you Meeshoo

As an outsider coming in late, I must say that the chatters seemed to take it awfully personally and their reactions were consequently rather ott. ?

As one of the people who was getting offended I actually have to agree and say I did get upset for seemingly no reason. i think the reason was that, for me, I don't like seeing friends upset and a couple clearly were. Being me, I got upset on their behalf...... more upsetting than anything for me however was not the telling off (I have no problem with that) but the reason behind it, which was people complaining; I felt was petty. Especially since every time I have signed in since then, the chat has been as non-gem reated as ever! At the moment it's coffee...... and yet complaints are not being made. That was why I took it personally. Does that make sense?

I DID speak to adrienna and cleared it all up with her. I also had my little vent here which I found very theraputic and thank you for listening.

Anyhow - I think we are all agreed in our likes and dislikes about Chat and this has been an interesting discussion. My thanks to you all.

Mira - I too am super glad to have you back!!! xxx

I read this whole thread with incredulity this morning, I can't believe that some people had such a childish, petulant reaction to simply being asked to stick to the site rules. I don't visit Rocks site very often and this has reminded me why, that whenever I do, I always turn chat off. If I watch it's to see what's on offer and all the irrelevant chitchat that goes on about everything under the sun bores the arse off me and I can see why the presenters are instructed to try and keep it to a minimum. :pPC:

I wasn't around last night so didn't see events personally, but the agree with the general principle that the chatroom contributes greatly to my purchasing of items I wouldnt otherwise get - not always a good thing lol.

I thoroughly enjoy the chat area, hanging out with old friends and newbies alike, and I can pass many an evening in chat when I'm not supposed to be buying anything. Almost inevitably I do grab something, but while I am happy to direct peoples attention to gemmy comments, even for a lifelong gemaholic like me, talking about gems non-stop in chat would be too mundane for words (even mine lol).

Nothing wrong with mixing it up, having fun, inter-acting with the presenters and making it fun for them too. When the chat is going swiftly and with merriment, the evening passes all too quickly and it's midnight before you know it.

If the presenters can prattle on about non-gem things, then why can't we do the same as customers with varied interests?

I would hate to see the chatroom go. I too have popped into the other section and have never found anybody in there actually chatting live. Last time I said something, I belatedly realised that the previous chat showing must have been ages old after seeing a comment by a member a day or two later saying she hadn't been in for weeks! I felt like a right prat!

Indeed, which is why the option to turn it off is there, so that we don't bore the arse off you. I have explained above that it was the notion of complaint, not being told off, which offended me.

Thank you for your copntribution to the discussion.
