I don’t know how I managed to get through the menopause unscathed without the non-stop support of QVC and all the others, like Davina, jumping on the bandwagon 🙄 ….. but I did. 👍
I have mentioned some of my bad experiences when going through the menopause and I do wish that the senior staff had been more educated about how it may affect the work performance of their staff; I felt very alone and I had the impression that the senior staff thought I was weak and neurotic when I said I had only slept three hours etc. I don’t like the commercialisation of menopause but I am glad that the cloak of ignorance is rising.

Yes, awareness by the medical profession in particular is much needed… and in society in general. Menopause generally coincides with the invisible woman phenomenon. Apparently women become invisible and valueless once they no longer have the ability to become pregnant and have babies…
It is extremely frustrating to see every zleb and commercial company jumping on the bandwagon to make themselves a quick buck… but let’s hope some genuine good comes out of it. Women being shown more compassion and understanding as they are forced onto a new hormonal rollercoaster would be an improvement.

I went through the menopause before it was highlighted and discussed by the press or on television. I was very lucky because I went through it without needing any supplements or HRT. Even hot flushes were infrequent. The only “symptom” that I experienced was during the perimenopause stage when I would wander around in my own little world and didn’t register if someone called my name. However, I was able to snap back into reality when I walked through the classroom door in the mornings, which was just as well for the children’s education.

I just don’t like the fact that celebrities are telling women what to do to get through it. We’re all different and my first port of call, if I was currently going through it, would be to see the G.P., in preference to buy something from a shopping channel just incase it helped.

I do however think that it’s a really good thing that we can now talk about it with other people without feeling that it’s a taboo subject because it’s a natural occurrence, just like menstruation.

So did I, but I was lucky. Mum suffered terribly and my sister had her struggles. I had assumed it was down to our genes but clearly not in my case.

For those who had or are still having the menopause from hell, nothing works like replacing the hormones lost.

While not quite the rollercoaster ride for men that it is for women, I do believe that men starting to suffer from fatigue, depression, muscle loss, and sexual problems should look into HRT rather than sports cars, toupees, younger women and little blue pills, too.
