Anyone Else Got Their Invite For The Flu/Covid Boosters?

I had my booster and flu jab at a local vaccine centre, well its basically an old shop that's been turned into centre, they said as long as I wasn't driving I could go straight away but chairs were provided for those that wanted to wait, my arm was quite sore afterwards so I tool myself off to the local pub for an aperol spritz ;)
 
I had my flu jab last week and it knocked me off colour for a couple of days. I was aching and had a bad headache but taking paracetamol helped. Us over 65`s get a different vaccine than under 65`s so the nurse told me but I`ve no idea why or what the difference is ?
I had my covid booster this week, no side effects at all and we were in and out in minutes, no sitting waiting for 15 minutes like last time. We`re both all jabbed up now and hopefully we`ll stay flu or covid free.
On a side note, my oldest son almost died from covid, was in intensive care and has been suffering long covid ever since. It`s 2 years this coming Christmas Day since he was rushed into hospital unable to breathe but yet his Army doctor has advised him NOT to have the new booster. She didn`t go into massive detail but said because he`d had such a long time still suffering effects from covid, she felt it wouldn`t be wise to have the new booster. Read into that what you will.
 
I’m still waiting for my covid booster - and no mention of it or any idea who may administer it etc!

Several people I know have been ill from their Moderna booster...

My God mum had hers and got stinking headache like my mum did... After 3 days of it not improving, she took a covid test just in case and - she’s got covid!
Sure it’s just a coincidence but bit odd!

Someone told me the Moderna as a booster is a “double dose” - no idea where they got that from!

Very sorry about your son, long COVID is nasty... but I am glad to know that his doctor - especially given she’s a military doctor who can be even more “harsh” about things, so I’m told - is taking it seriously and giving her advice.

I so nearly didn’t have COVID jabs bc of my condition but was more concerned about getting the illness or long covid...
Stories about this Moderna booster aren’t encouraging either but I’ve been told to have it on balance.

Both the new Moderna and the PfizerNBiotech vaccines are what’s known as bivalent vaccines. Both target the original virus and the Omicron variant.

I had the Pfizer one and had no side effects at all, whereas my friend had the Moderna and felt tired the following day. I just feel that a headache or tiredness for a couple of days is preferable to getting Covid, but it’s personal choice.

I know several people who have had Moderna as their booster who have had no issues with it, myself and my parents included.
 
Went to health centre as requested for double flu and covid booster only to find out they had “run out” of covid ones! I now have to spend an entire morning trying to get through to surgery and then another appointment and trek down to have it. You couldn’t make it up.

Absolutely a few days of side effects is better than covid and the risk of long COVID, even if the vaccine reduces severity of the covid...

But I do think there are some few medical situations where different decision *may* be considered, such as in case of Vienna’s son..

In my experience it has been a bit of a shambles.

I was offered my first 2 jabs ridiculously far away, then a friend told me they were doing them within walking distance from me, but it was "hush-hush" and should not be publicised. It was intended for NHS staff, but I had no problem at all getting my first 2 there. It has now closed.

And despite the booking system knowing nothing about them, pop-up walk-in centres regularly opened for a few days but you only found out about them on the grapevine, often after they had closed. I did manage to get one of mine at a walk-in, as booking an appointment was not practical with an unreliable bus service.

And as I posted earlier, the nearest main one to me had all buses from my area removed at the beginning of September.

The point I was making is not to let others reacting put you off.
I reacted to my original but the rest I have not had much reaction at all.

Fair point!

I wouldn’t ever let a few side effects put me off getting a vaccine and I think anecdotal stories of reactions not always that useful albeit interesting and good to share!

And vast majority of people be fine anyway.

But for me personally, and a few others, my medical situation is so bad and complex that I do have to consider options! (And I do have some medial knowledge and consult research!)

Hope everyone continues to get offered and takes up both jaberonies! 😉🤞

You are quite correct. No vaccine is 100% guaranteed to stop you getting an illness/disease but they do usually help to lessen the likelihood of complications.

Dad was a consultant physician and specialised in infectious diseases and tropical diseases. I had more jabs than most when I was a child, to reduce any risk, because dad was in contact with all sorts of things at the hospital.

It is the two main Covid infections in the Moderna vaccination. We were told that when we were given ours.
I had a headache for a week after my vaccine but had no problems with the previous Pfizer ones.
 
My cancelled booster has been rescheduled for Friday. The flu one on Saturday left my arm quite sore for a few days but no other problems.
