She'd like us to believe solid silver, but I'd be willing to guess stainless steel, which are better because they don't need polishing.
So true. I was given a full canteen of sodding solid silver cutlery, with all the whistles and bells from Paul's Mum. I thought that was really generous of her (she is still alive) and then she says "I can't be bothered to polish any more love". Thanks a lot, it is a pain in the rear to upkeep and I can't sell it because it's a family heirloom and the hallmark says 1831. It is a lovely rat tail (I think but am no silver specialist) design and very pretty but what a palaver. I shall have to be mean and decide which of my girls I land it on to, haha!

I love Rattail, it's the most perfect design & how wonderful to have something in a pattern that been in existence for over five centuries. Having written that I can appreciate that not everyone enjoys cleaning metal as much as me; as long as I'm wearing gloves & the kitchen table is protected I'm happy to sit for an hour or so making things shiny. My maternal grandfather was a jeweller & my paternal great grandfather was a silversmith & there's a good selection of their work still within the family so I feel it's my duty to look after the pieces I've received.

I love silver and glass and am quite happy giving them a clean especially at Christmas.

I used to love a table set with them when we hosted several people at holiday times but now that it is only us it’s more laid back but I enjoy sitting at a proper dining table and taking a meal slowly and chatting and planning so make sure we do it at least once a week.

i would never willingly eat out at a carvery type of meal and hate self service cafes where you stand with a tray of cold food searching for a free table. I like to sit and be served if I’m paying.
