The toffee especially is what I’d call a “good, old-fashioned” sweet!
Love the way it’s not cut into neat squares, but supplied in rustic chunks...

Does take some chewing, however, but it’s worth it...!

As to why companies change successful and popular recipes and products, I have no idea!
It’s infuriating.

Sometimes wonder if they do it so that they can advertise a “new and improved recipe or formula” etc?
They’re rarely better and invariably ruin a beloved product which surely drives away loyal customers!

I actually phoned Mcvities this week (sad I know!), because every other packet of Hobnobs I purchase are now over-baked or burnt! Lady logged the batch codes and dates and said she’d report it.
I may get some vouchers?!

Turns out they changed the recipe a few years back (I knew it!), ditto with Mcvities digestive biscuits, in order to reduce saturated fat and sugar content?

Thing is, it’s only a minimal difference in nutrition but to me it’s ruined them! I’d much rather just eat one or two good biscuits a week than multiple lacking ones!

McVities are owned by United Biscuits & are closing their Glasgow factory next year despite several attempts to keep the factory open & save 500+ jobs. I hate big businesses, owned by those who have no idea what that click of their fingers does to others.

I have a Tassimo machine that was on special offer for £60 instead of over £100+

It makes tea, coffee and hot chocolate so I’m certainly not purchasing any “gizmos” from Hotel Chocolat. No doubt the pods that the machine uses will be a premium price as well and will not be as readily available to purchase, unlike other pods or capsules.

you can use nespresso pods & other ones too in it so not just theirs

Not *quite* the same but I take your point LOL!

I’ve got a “Magimix Nespresso Inissia“ machine (had to look that up!) which I bought in 2017 and is still going really strong. It was £66 including an Aerocino milk frother machine (which I like as much as the coffee machine!) and even came with credit to buy a lot of Nespresso pods.

It was a birthday gift but I’d been asked and choose the cream option. It’s really neat and slim so takes up little worktop space (I don’t have much!), and produces a decent cup using Nespresso pods...

I looked at others brands which do pods for tea (why?!) and hot choc (hate it!) and tried their coffee but not as high bar pressure and I didn’t enjoy it personally - but each to their own!

Any probs and I must say Nespresso have been amazing at customer service and will even send you a machine whilst yours in being repaired (mine hasn’t needed it but mum’s has a few times as it gets a lot of use and she’s had it forever)...

I must say the Hotel Chocolat machine is quite good looking if a little masculine with the black. But I like the copper accents.
And Dualit are a good make.

I just don’t see huge need for it - if their pods are compatible with Nespresso, and machine is too?!
And it’s not a cheap machine at all..

I understand why they’re offering coffee (well apart from to make money!) as they have their estate etc
Maybe some people will be drawn in by the name, but since they’re not coffee specialists am not sure who/why!
 
PS. Looked at HC website and pods don’t get very good reviews sadly! Thought they would...
And £4.50 ish for tube of 10 pods Nespresso about £3.60/3.70 for most?
And supermarkets inc Aldi does cheaper compatibles too..

(I don’t work for Nespresso btw! And know they’re a big multi-national. Just had good experience of service etc. And they do offer recycling of pods albeit nowhere near as neat as the clever “unit” the HC one has!
 
Not interested in this at all, however, I see it is made by Dualit. I nearly laid an egg when Mr CC spent over £100 on a Dualit toaster but I have to say it has lasted longer than all our other (not cheap) toasters put together. He never cleans it though and it doesn't clean itself :rolleyes:

I only drink one cup of coffee per day so a jar of Kenco and a spoon will have to do.

We don’t drink tea. I drink 2 cups of very very strong coffee per day and Mr L drinks 2 cups of Nescafé mocha chocolate sachets.

In the past I’ve purchased several makes of coffee makers but got fed up with both the space they took up and the fact the coffee was never strong or hot enough.

much and all as I like the look and idea I’m not going to be sucked in. Hard to beat either a plunger or stove top espresso.
 
I've still got my Nespresso which cost me a ****** fortune - (your fault Mr Clooney !). I'm rubbish at descaling - anything, but mine is about 8 years old and still going strong but sadly I'm not a daily coffee drinker, so it doesn't get used as often as it ought. So this HC offering is not for me, I'll stick with 'George' and my cafetier.
 
I admit I have Dolce one bought for £29.99 from Amazon Black Friday some years back. Descale it and still working. All my friends had one, and I was not sure but the price down from £99 at the time and I jumped.
 
Can’t remember who it was but wanted to let you know that your campaign to get the Hotel Chocolat lady a new dress has worked!

Not sure how much you raised for the cause, but it’s a nice dress! Looks like silk - most likely poly if from the Q! 😉

She’s not moved far from the colour palette of her other dress in the world but maybe it’s meant to be on brand?

Bit of a coffee addict here I'm afraid, my only sin as all I drink in life is spring water and coffee in the morning. I recently got a cheap Nespresso Ezzenza Mini machine from Amazon which is the old nespresso small pods, for £90, it's very tiny and was pleasantly surprised, sadly not available anymore. Coffee is a thing where I strongly feel, it's about the taste as each format is equal whichever takes your fancy is perfect and none is better than the other. I've tried EVERY format and actually it's hobby of mine and as I say to people, you can never have too many coffee machines. (I have 3 presently, including a huge automatic bean to cup.) I also purchased a pod recycler which is a Dualit ad was only £10 as the waste is appalling, it is messy though, I always recycle my coffee waste.

The pods, yankee bundles do fab nespresso cheap pod deals. the best so far being the Costa ones and the Starbuck ones were ghastly. I used my superautomatic milk frother for the milk and pods for the espresso and make fab drinks. This machine is ok but thats as far as I would go, they are all a much of the sameness when it comes to nespresso.

As an aside, I also have used coffee making formats - cold brew, aeropress, filter, french press, V60 (by far the strongest but faffyiest) and even stove top. For me the cheapest easiest format is bean to cup superautomatic but the footprint in my tiny kitchen is huge.

Our son in law's the same. He's just bought a new machine & has programmed it to make one named after him; it's delicious & the grounds get composed.
