Ok, heres me being dozy again - whats the story with this hour? I am watching on a pc with no sound, so cant hear their explanations - the gems seem to all be prefixed with idar but with their origin unknown
Didn't watch - as am finding Gems pretty mediocre at the moment - but Idar-Oberstein is a well known gem cutting and trading centre and has a history of jewellery making. Like many of these places thought to go back to roman times but basically think the place has been a gem trading centre for about 500 years. If my memory serves me amethyst used to be mined in the area and Idar agate jewellery is highly regarded - guess they're going to make this a big deal for their german customers
