Help Support ShoppingTelly:

That’s a really interesting piece of information you’ve provided. There is no better evidence of this shady practice they engage in than somebody who has actually bought the item previously at the same or a lower price than they say is currently the lowest price ever.

I don’t know what the answer is as there is no competent body available to actually police channels like this, selling items with incorrect information as part of the presentation. I gave up on the ASA long ago. A completely powerless, toothless and apathetic body with no realistic powers to employ to actually make channels like Ideal World behave correctly over issues like this one in particular.

Why do they (IW) continue to do this? Probably for the reasons given above. They know there is no serious action ever going to be brought against them. If anybody does actually bother to let the ASA know over advertising infringements by a shopping channel, all the management has to do is say: “Sorry, that won’t happen again,” and then, of course, it happens again, and again and again. If a shopping channel caught misleading on pricing actually lost a day’s broadcasting as a penalty, things would be very different from then on.
