Name Changes on Gems?

So what's with the different names being used? Unless my eyes are deceiving me, Hattie Greenwood looks like the same person as Hattie Houston to me, but on some things she's shown as Hattie Greenwood and on others as Hattie Houston. I can understand that she might have married and the second one is her married name, but why not use one or the other? And I'm sure that Gem expert Jake Thompson was once known as Jake Thompson-Bennett (he married Steve Bennett's eldest daughter, if I remember rightly) - however he's now seemingly dropped the 'Bennett'.
