Great, so the slebs are going to be replaced by social media influencers. Well, that seems to increase my likelihood of NOT shopping at Q even more.

Social Influencers. The ultimate money for doing sod all.

As I get older I get inwardly outraged at the money being coined in and sloshed about by those with the least talent. Also I find it obscene at the end of the scale of those with some talent - like reading an autocue. News readers / breakfast presenters and the like, earning a quarter of a million pounds average, is beyond crackers. I know footballers - most of whom are inarticulate, are on phenomenal amounts, and its just a nonsense.

🤣🤣🤣Same here Brissles.

I agree with all of the above.

My world has shrunk. At the age of 65 I feel well and truly invisible, voiceless and irrelevant to today’s world. I don’t care because those who can’t see or hear me are not important to me.

I no longer buy a decent newspaper, I don’t watch the news. I get headlines from the Daily Mail On-Line and try to winkle out a few facts and experts’ views from the sensationalist reports (and lies).

I use FB and IG purely to keep in touch with family, distant friends, former work colleagues and some “specialist groups”.

pre-COVID I’d be out shopping or having a coffee or lunch several days a week. Now I can’t be bothered and there’s nothing I “need”. Masks are only a minor irritation, but other people’s behaviour really annoys me.

I’m happy, I don’t think I’m missing anything of importance.

I’m the same, Eric’s Mum ! All this technology makes my head swim! Nothing seems to be straightforward. Everything has to be done with a push of a button to swipe of a card, instantly. No one has time now, the standard of driving I find appalling, everyone in such a rush, and so aggressive. I don’t watch the news, makes me give up on humanity. It’s not our world any more is it?

I`m not a fan of technology but it does have its uses. My 20 year old steam iron broke on Monday so I went online and ordered a new one directly from the Morphy Richards website, it was half price in the sale plus after a short google I found a voucher code which gave me another 10% discount. The full price of it should have been £49, total cost to me including delivery was £23 and a few pence.
The iron was delivered yesterday morning (Thursday) by Hermes. After unpacking it I noticed a crack along the side of the iron. Rang the number on the invoice, spoke to a very nice man who tutted and said oh Hermes again, we`ve had so many issues with them we`re changing couriers as soon as our contract with them is up. He asked me to email a photo of the damage and my customer reference number and order number directly to their customer service department who emailed me back within half an hour saying a new iron was on its way and to cut off the plug on the damaged one and dispose of it at a local recycling centre if possible.
All of which wouldn`t have been possible without modern day technology and even with email and mobile phone photos would have taken weeks with QVC !

These conversations will have taken place since man learned to walk upright, it's just that technological changes happen so rapidly. Imagine seeing trains, cars & planes for the first time & then being able to watch entertainment from a box in the corner of your sitting room. I pick & choose how much tech stuff I want to use; had two quality phones taken by students so bought a basic one that they wouldn't have touched with the proverbial bargepole & I'm currently taping away on a reconditioned laptop that serves me very well. Without technology I wouldn't have discovered all the independent companies & small businesses that get my money, YouTube - for music videos, been able to get tickets for concerts on the day they're released, kept a close eye on my bank account, or found this forum...

All this technology ! its amazing how we got through each day over 20 years ago ! of course there are benefits, but the joy of eating out has now gone for me. Twice recently with friends we've entered two different eating establishments where the phone is needed to download yet another ****** App to order drinks/food and payment.

Too much of a faff for me, I have a phone, but refuse to use it in this way. In the end - and to the exasperation of the waitresses we were able to choose from the menu on her iPad, then paid by card. I'm reluctant now to eat out again until probably next year !!!

Same here Brissles. Just seen one of our local pubs is allowing staff and customers to choose whether to wear a mask from next week. They have also said you will be able to order food and drink from the bar and there will also be vertical drinking. I assume that vertical drinking is drinking standing up. Won't be going there anytime soon.

I didn’t download the app and, having heard that people are being pinged all the time, I’m glad that I didn’t. Unless it becomes mandatory to have the app (which it won’t) then I won’t be downloading it as I have no desire to go abroad, to a pub or to a restaurant. It’s too much of a faff.

Whatever Boris has said, I will also continue to wear a mask when I’m in shops etc, I’ll still keep a social distance from people I don’t know and I’ll continue to wash my hands thoroughly. Some may think I’m being over cautious but I think I’m being sensible and all my friends intend to do the same as me.

The infection rate is ramping up and I would rather not be infected by someone who’s wandering around in the same place that I am when they’re not wearing a mask. I do agree that the country should open up again but we should still be very careful or the past 16 months of being restricted will have been a total waste of time.

Same here Toril in fact we will not be going in supermarkets, pubs or restaurants. Everything will be done online as it has been for the last 16 months.

I’ve been going to supermarkets throughout the pandemic, sporting a mask and latex gloves as that means one less hand washing session. I don’t drink and so going to a pub would be a waste of time and I rarely eat out in restaurants. If I go out to eat it’s usually in a small place for lunch, but I’ve yet to do that again yet. As for clubbing ….. it’s been a while since I did that. 😉

To be honest, this so-called freedom next Monday won’t really make any difference to my life style.

I did a baby breakfast for our daughter this morning, she's on maternity leave from next week - end of term & it was the first time all her friends had been together for months. There was much discussion about tomorrow & knowing that I'm claustrophobic one asked how I got on with masks, I detest wearing one & they were hysterical when I said that I had 24 because I just kept trying to find the right one. The latest is a single layer of lace, some girls disapproved so were surprised when our daughter's closest friend said that it was as effective as the others because they're all ineffective & the only benefit is that while people wear one they don't touch their faces but as soon as one's taken off normal service is resumed. She's a nurse practitioner in cardiology & has worked on covid wards; her ppe has been tested with various sprays to see if she can detect odours & tastes, she can, & because this virus is passed in aerosol form the particles are so minute they get through the holes in material that can be up to 500,000 times larger. Ironically there's an article in today's Telegraph by an engineering professor & he's said all this & more, calling face masks comfort blankets. We go out as often as we can & all the places are independents, owned & staffed by people we like; I will wear a mask when I go into to them out of courtesy to the people who are working & no other reason.

My mother said before she died a couple of years ago, "Nothing is real any more." How true that is. Plastic-enhanced people, self-styled influencers telling us how to live our lives, food with all sorts in it, faceless names on the net (yes, me and us all here), a planet in chaos, politicians changing with the wind, houses/everything with built-in redundancy so we're forced to buy more stuff and add more rubbish to the pile. And more. Like most of us, I'm happiest now when I'm away from all of that and doing the simple things we always did - a walk with or without friends, watching children who actually play outside, a good book - the best things are the simplest.

The small things in life are the biggest & the best.

My granddaughters are chomping at the bit to go visit their other Gran who lives in Wales. They haven`t seen her in over a year and no doubt she`ll notice a big difference in the girls. There`ll be her other 4 grand children there too, all of them ranging in age from 4 to 15.
Their Gran has a farm so for their 2 week visit the girls will be outside for hours at a time. They love it and get to help to care for the horses, the sheep, the cows and hens and to roam free across her land. They camp out in the paddock, the younger ones build dens, they play in the barns and there`s no traffic, no roads just dirt tracks across the land and they usually visit in Spring (pre covid) and help with the lambing and bottle feeding the weaker or orphaned ones.
There`s some new foals because their Gran has a stud and breeds Hanoverian horses, plus she has some Welsh ponies and also runs a retirement home for horses too. The girls haven`t bothered one bit about not having their usual family holiday with Mum and Dad and the 2 weeks at their Nanny`s as they call her will cost little, will give them more freedom than any other holiday, will mean the littler ones can get as dirty as they please cos Nanny doesn`t give a jot and when it`s my oldest granddaughter`s birthday whilst she`s down there, the big kitchen will be buzzing with 6 kids, 3 sets of parents, Nanny and her partner , at least 4 or 5 dogs ( 2 working collies plus Weirmaraners) but the last time they visited over a year ago there were 16 dogs because one of the Weirmaraners had given birth to a litter of 12 pups !

Lucky granddaughters, what a fab holiday they will have.
