He must be under enormous pressure & nobody could have predicted this crisis. What people don't understand is that democracies have layers of experts who make decisons & advise the politicians, however, when this is over the fact that there's no joined up thinking between them needs to be addressed. Public Health England is totally useless & those 'in charge', who are on sizeable salaries, are dragging their feet over many things at the moment including testing for this virus. I've heard so many say we should have tens of thousands of respiraors & intensive care beds but we can't spend vast amounts of money & then have things mothballed 'just in case'. What a shambles.

The fact we’ve got this pandemic, we could have another around the corner that affects the lungs also. We were chronically short of vents so excess when this is over will be smaller amount. Maybe recycling in logical amounts or have them in storage, a pandemic contingency warehouse that includes PPE!

I’m not a fan of most people with an online presence but I don’t wish this on them (well if I’m totally honest there are a few)
I've just heard that someone I met on several training courses has died from this virus. Deep breath - she was one of the most spiteful people I've ever encountered & bullied a boy so badly he needed specialist care & she lost her job.

The country needs logic like that not piffling nanny state mission statements. Contingency storage is straightforward & surely easily arranged.

I have to confess that - as most of you know - I live on my own with little dog, and aside from the distancing and lockdown, is how my life is normally. I can go days without speaking to a soul, not through choice, but my only relatives live miles away and contact me sporadically. My neighbours work, and friends are occupied with families. So my only 'inconvenience' is not having the shops open, or having a coffee with friends.

Perhaps this situation might be an eye opener for those whingeing about being in isolation, in that there are thousands of single elderly who live like this permanently !!!
i am in very much the same position! Usually I do go out a few times a week but some weeks I dont have a theatre booking and other things get cancelled or werent booked so I have a quiet week. It doesnt bother me at all. So to get in the right zone I just regard this as a bunch of quiet weeks really, with extra stuff on TV to compensate for the theatre bookings. I am sure I will soon get a bit of cabin fever but personally do not feel we have been tested yet (I am talking only about social ramifications, not financial). The one thing I am doing differently is going out for a walk.

Mind you the water went off to some of the flats here last night and you think "Really? Havent we got enough to deal with?"

The husband of a lady I worked with some years ago has died. They were in their mid 80’s and if I recall correctly had health problems back then. Unfortunately he was her carer so even more difficult for them.

I agree, but can we stockpile thousands of pieces of equipment on a 'just in case' basis. The last pandemic was decades ago and possibly needed a 'different' type of equipment, so is it realistic to have piled high items that will never be used - and just might perish or be out of date when needed. The cries for 'more testing kits' more PPE is justifiable, but again realistically we never knew this virus existed only a matter of weeks ago, and these kits and PPEs need manufacturing and distributed, possibly from abroad, so they cant be magically plucked out of the air with a click of the fingers as some journalists on the box seem to imagine.

Air travel has rapidly enabled this virus to spread. Who know, when eventually analysed it might have happened so globally anyway. If it is all down to air travel, compared to decades ago is more prolific, the need for contingency might not seem so far fetched. Perish the thought the next pandemic just might wipe out all humans before there’s any chance of finding its Achilles heel.

I heard that vitamin C keeps the virus at bay as it helps to rebuild the damaged by the virus cells which would mean that it's antiviral.
Has anyone noticed that the vitamin has sold out globally?

So a friend needed toilet rolls and always buy the cheap ones 4 for a £1. Well, they have disappeared I will say never to return she went to buy at the weekend and only the branded ones and she was so outraged at the price she walked out without any. She is going to have to buy whether she likes it or not as some point.

Okay, call me weird but it actually tells you on the packet how many sheets are in a roll. Another friend used to buy a particular cheap brand and each roll looked really thick so it looked like loads of sheets on the roll. But, they were loosely rolled on the inner tube and quite a difference in how many sheets you got compared to the branded ones.

When this first happened and TR were rarer than hen’s teeth Mr L and I had a disagreement as to how long our TR normally last. In an effort to prove who was right we started a time line on the chalk board in our kitchen.
At the start each time we went to tear off the sheets we went back a sheet (except for “special occasions “) so as not to waste.

Interestingly as they have become more plentiful we are marking the board earlier and earlier so obviously we have fallen back into bad habits!

However I have made an effort to use a little less shampoo/conditioner/shower gel each time and have gone back to liquid washing rather than pods as I’m doing smaller loads but more often so I feel this is less wasteful.

I am a bit dubious about a vaccine. Covid is a cold /flu virus and they have been trying for decades to get a cold vaccine

I said exactly the same thing to the husband Lp, the flu still kills a lot of people today so it’s just a case of Coronavirus integrating in to society and us being able to eventually control it and manage it with as few deaths as possible, through hopefully developing a vaccine.
