My mum has Alzheimer's disease, and lives alone, and my sister and I do all her shopping for her. She too will be 90 in a few weeks. We look after her with the help of carers coming in twice a day. I dread to think what will happen if we cannot get to see her due to the Coronavirus, and if the care stops due to the staff getting ill as well. She is very independent, and I cannot see how we are going to be able to stop her going out if over 70's are told to stay at home. She just won't understand or remember. We put notes up all the time but she just ignores them.

I have fibromyalgia and find it hard to do a big food shop, hence the reason for my online shopping. Luckily my husband will be able to help when he gets home from work, but that will mean we have to go to the shops around 7pm and I doubt much will be left.

I can't believe how selfish people have been and are continuing to be. It makes me so angry.
 
I looked at an online delivery slot for Asda yesyerday and the earliest one they had was this Wednesday, so three days ahead. I said to the husband bollocks to that (or words to that effect) we’ll venture the unknown and do a smash and grab (a small shop) tomorrow in store and just get what we need. This panic buying is understandable because people are scared of the unknown, but unnecessary because it’s inconsiderate to others and really, really selfish

I was just in Sainsbury’s at Beckton and the shelves are practically stripped bare as well As the freezers. It’s madness. I managed to get a few essentials. No loo rolls of course. The young girl on the till said yesterday was total mayhem.What is wrong with people.My local shop is pretty well stocked just a bit more expensive.
 
I`ve just had a parcel delivered by Royal Mail and I know the posties have been told not to let people sign as usual on their handheld gizmos but if this guy could have thrown my parcel at me from the gate then I`m sure he would have done. He stood as far away from me as he could and his gloved hands literally handed me my box by his fingertips. It was quite a heavy box and I was lucky I didn`t drop it because he was standing so far away I couldn`t get a proper grip on it. If they`re so worried then why didn`t he just put the box near my door, knock and then step back until I answered or maybe he wasn`t sure someone would be in so kept hold of it ? Who knows but I suspect things are only going to get worse.
 
Just come back from Wilko where I get our rabbit's hay & while I was there I saw some cushions that were exactly what I wanted, £5 including a squishy pad, so bought two. Along with a couple of other things my bags were full & I waddled across to the shopping arcade benches to rearrange them at which point a woman grabbed the bag with the cushions & screamed at me about buying too much. For once I had sharp response, told her what they were & that if I had started the great cushion shortage of 2020 I was very sorry. She didn't know what to do & I was determined to sort out my bags before I walked away, I was really pleased that I didn't trip as I left just put my nose in the air. The country's gone mad.

Some people are using this as an excuse for some very ugly behaviour. I don't suppose she had the grace to apologise?

Someone has asked in the press, that if us over 70's have to be under house arrest, are we at least allowed to walk the dog? the answer came back as.... no. And 'IF' we had back gardens that should be sufficient ! EXCUSE ME ????

Well, sod that. I can totally understand the reasoning of being socially isolated at our age - even if we dont have symptoms which will protect us bodily as well as being a drain on the NHS, but as I live in a rural area, and barely see another soul when out with the dog in the fields, then I would have to be pinned down and handcuffed before I am prevented from taking my dog on her daily walk.

I think we are old enough to have enough common sense to stand at more than arms length from anyone when talking, and to take other precautions. For myself I either use gloves or a tissue when holding the handle of a supermarket basket, and with the lack of hand sanitisers, I have placed a small amount of vodka in a bowl and dip my hands in that before going out ! (the higher the alcohol content in the hand stuff the better it works, so I'm going route one and dowsing my hands in the real mccoy!!)

Sorry Sis. He's Archie, we think he's 9 & he has reduced eyesight due to cataracts. He looks like Benjamin Bunny & our younger daughter had him from a pet shop that was having difficulty selling him because he was fully grown, which is why we don't know his age. We've got him because the first house she had wasn't in the best of areas, they had a break in & the back garden could be seen from the road so having him in a run worried me in case he was released or hurt - very judgemental I know. He's stayed with us ever since, he's gentle & quiet, loves sprouts & gives back far more than is given, a total love.
 
Mr L visited Tesco, Asda & Sainsburys it was manic he came back with one squirty Detol then called in a very small Marks and they had loo rolls a plenty and lots of other things.

How are older folk going to get cash to pay neighbours for their groceries. Whilst no one would mind paying the odd bit out of own pocket it would be unrealistic to expect a stranger to stump up for 12 weeks.

Ofcourse fat ass politicians wouldn’t know how normal people exist, even the so called socialist ones who get £80k plus expenses which can treble this.

The Yanks are panic buying guns, at least we are only loo rolls, but after 4 months it might seem a good alternative.
 
How things have changed. I was going to Tenerife this weekend but that got cancelled. Now learned today that a colleague I work closely with has been to the hospital showing symptoms. NOT tested (not allowed out of the car) so no way to say "yes, definitely" or "no, thank goodness" so anyone who has had contact is now having to self-isolate, me included.

One good thing is that the holiday time off can be rebooked at a later stage. Still awaiting news from travel company and expect to hear in the next day or so.

I've read nothing yet that says that taking exercise outside the home will be banned - we will just have to take the normal precautions of staying well out of reach of our fellow human beings.

At some point the disgraceful behaviour of the stockpilers will abate, and the rest of us should be able to get a look in.
 
Well, if we are all prone to 'rambling' now at putting the world to rights, God knows what us living alone will be like after 3 months of house arrest, we'll be really spouting a load of gibberish !!!

Well, I shall still walk my dog, and stay out of everyone's way in my local Co-op to get my daily paper and a loaf, until I show any signs of 'symptoms'.
 
I think it must depend where you shop. Sainsbury and Morrisons have cleared shelves, and this morning I was told that the queues in Morrisons stretched back to the middle of the shop ! Yet later on in Waitrose there were plenty of loo rolls and kitchen towels which were sitting on the shelves as customers walked by. Does that say anything about the 'type' of customer ????
