Qvc and food is not a good coupling. First QVC want to make a huge profit. Then the vendor needs to make something. The result overpriced tat.I will never forget the pies with two 1 cm squares of chicken and a dessert spoon of a thin paste that I suspect was meant to be a sauce. All covered by a razor thin slip of anaemic pastry.

I've often seen them demonstrating pies and pointing out how crammed to the brim they are when there's clearly a massive gap between the filling and the lid, how stupid do they think we are?

Me too. A few years ago when I had a hip replacement so couldn't get out, I stocked up the freezer, and bought those pies. Beyond awful.

Even the cake selection look as dry as old toast, yet say "how moist it is ". My idea of a cake being moist is when it starts to crumble when its cut into.

I totally get this - They can make a humble meat pie sound like something out of this world. "A rich butter pastry surrounding huge chunks of the most succulent Welsh beef, only the plumpest mushrooms, generous pieces of tangy onion in an artisan ale enriched gravy" They even manage to make a pinch of salt and pepper and a dash of herbs sound extraordinary! Combine this with a stock saying such as "The ultimate comfort food", the semi-orgasmic noises coming from the presenters and before you know it you've signed up to spending £40 on a batch of frozen meat pies that turn out to be no more special than something you can buy in the supermarket.

Theres also a saying: The law of diminishing returns. How fantastic can a meat pie be to warrant the silly amounts some places are charging. The pies in the supermarket are very cheap and far nicer than the QVC ones they are selling for four, five times the price plus the Ott postage costs.

Makes me think of the M&S ad they used to run.

This is not just any pie, this is a Marks and Spencer pie. The voice-over almost made it sound like food porn.

QVC, have never shipped their food to N.I. A lucky escape for us.

I remain to be unconvinced they use specially made pies for their studio demos. I.E. not what the punters get.

The thing I don't like about truckles is that you cut a piece out of them and then they are really hard to wrap up the exposed bit so it doesn't dry out and then it's hard to slice a triangle piece of cheese and by the time you fancy another piece the whole thing has got mould on it so goes in the bin. Plus the fact that most supermarkets do lots of flavours of truckles for around £1 each that are just as good as the posh ones (that Mr CC bought me for Christmas and are now feeding a family of Rolands down at Landfill House).

Not around my way they don't! The ones we sell are about the same price and whilst they've only got a small variety of flavours they are organic, so I guess that's what justifies the price. The Mousehouse doesn't mention them being organic, and they should be at that price. Ignoring the mouldy Red Leicester incident for a moment, I'm sure the cheese is lovely and some of the flavours are great, but to me I'd much soon buy this sort of thing at a farmer's market where you can try before you buy and pick and choose exactly how many you want and which flavours. There's not a chance I'd want to splash out those prices on a chance, especially from Q with their extortionate postage rates. Co-op used to do a selection of three truckles which were lovely, they weren't pricey but worked out more than £1 each but I've not seen them for ages. Cheese doesn't get much of a chance of drying out in my house lol!

To be fair, the £1 truckles were being sold in Asda at Christmas, they may well be a bit dearer outwith any offers. I still don't eat them fast enough though as I find them hard to cut. Totally agree about the farmer's market and the tasting first.

Years ago someone used to come round with frozen supposedly ‘gourmet’ food.I made the mistake of buying some, of course it turned out to be no better,or as good as the local supermarkets.In the end I used to hide when I saw him coming!I view any food from QVC the same but can just switch off rather than dive behind the settee.
