Hi All,
Is it just me or are others feeling quite anxious about the economy and outlook at the moment.
QVC are quite clearly 'putting' additional measures into place ie recycling products to try and minimize any loss. It's clear from the threads that this really isn't just the odd isolated incident.
Added to that, I am one of those whose received the dreaded letter re returns, despite many of the returns being due to QVC error either completely wrong item or wrong size sent etc.
Having said all that, we then have insult to injury and a very noticeable price rise on many of the items.....
I've not ordered anything now for 2 months and feel rather disappointed with the current trend.
Q - Quite likely used
V - Very often soiled or faulty
C - considerably higher priced than others

Great post sugar plum.
That last thing I ordered from QVC was a Steiff winter bear about £27 for my mum as she has the other 2 and it took an age to get here too.
Their Diamonique is very expensive now too.

Yes I feel anxious about the economy, and about all the people who have and will lose their jobs. I for one just buy what I need now and not what I would like. I do think that QVC are putting temptation in our way by offering things on easypay, if they were essential items then fair enough, but more often then not they are things that we could live without.

Off the soap box Kathy:54:

I've only ordered one thing since Christmas and rarely watch the channel these days. I think the bulk of their stuff is over-priced now especially when you add on the P&P costs. As for the fashion....it's time they actually catered for English women and sizes instead of just shipping over trends which appeal to the Americans and I don't mean that to offend our friends from "across the pond"!

Hope you don't mind me asking Dazzler, but what would your take on 'fashionable and trendy' be? I often think when I'm watching some shows - shoes or handbags for example - that the models are styled fashionably and trendy and are usually wearing things that QVC sell. I'm wondering if it's an age thing.

As far as the recession is concerned, I am being more selective in what I buy but I have no OH or dependents and I've reached an age where I feel if I can afford it, why not indulge myself as no-one else will!!

Why bother? Plenty of competition out there with fashionable clothes, free or reduced delivery. Often arrives the next day and is better priced. Sorry but QVC do not deserve a slice of the clothes market unless they try MUCH harder IMO.

HI Topaz,

I like anything that looks good does not have to be in fashion, It is hard to explain really, but what i don't personally like is clothes that hide your figure that look to me like they are still on the coathanger IMHO. I am one for retaining youth and good looks for as long as possible, and that way i can wear nice clothes that will always look good.

Don't blame you on indulging yourself, and why not, if you can afford to and you like something I say go for it!

I prefer to go to the high street and look round, I like "West one" and "Top Shop" IMHO. Never tried ordering by mail order.

qvc are not tempting me in the slightest. everything is way too expensive and some of the quality not up to the high steet standard that they so love to condem.
for example i noticed the pan set tsv yesterday was very expensive, markon boots used to be so cheap. long boots for around the £30 mark now ankle boots for £60. no-one cannot tell me there is not better value in our department stores. northern night anather load of rubbish there is nothing to compare it to on the high street as the high steet would never get away with selling it.times are definately hard.
qvc buying power seems to be lost for the time being anyway.

Yes I don't deny I 've had some fantastic buys off qvc over the years but right now it's not happening :(

I am not buying like I used to.
The skin care brands are expensive and in my opinion are not worth the prices and I am cynical anyway about the claims.
I do not and will never impulse buy expensive jewellery//electrical goods off the TV.
I bought a Charlie bear at wk end and my Halo Glow came yesterday. Those were my last purchases.
I am bored to death with Elemis, Gatineau, Decleor ,L'Occitane, Northern Nights, Cooks Essentials ,Archos,Lap tops,TV's, Kim n Co,Gems,Butler Wilson,Suarti,Jan Springer and Uncle Tom Cobbley and all!!!!

After that lot there isn't much left.I would rather use my hard earned money to buy something I really want/need.

I see where you're coming from now, but these shops never have anything in my size.

I'm actually going to defend QVC for once. No one's forcing us to buy from them. Yes, they do sell things which are expensive, but there are also things which I think are very reasonable. For example: I use benefit bad gal mascara which is about £14.50 in the shops. QVC are doing a duo for £20. Even when you factor in the postage - that's cheaper than I can find it on Ebay and I know it really is brand new!
Another example are the honora pearls. I've had a few of these, and they've always been lovely.
Yes, there is expensive stuff on QVC, but there are also bargains to be had if you look closely enough.
So I'll keep shopping with them for selected items!

You've hit the nail on the head Miriam. I still think the Liz Earle TSvs are excellent value and there were one or two other items on her most recent shows that were cheaper on QVC than on her own website. Honora pearls are a very good example of value. Plain strings of pearls are often deared in the 'cheaper' high street shops and we'd never see the styles and colours the Ralph brings us at an affordable price. Some items fromQVC's own gemstone jewellery range are a good price and well made too.

If you are prepared to view selectively and remember your tv has an off button QVC can be a great place.

Yes of course there are still good buys. With QVC's buying power there certainly should be but just so very few nowadays.

What size range were you after Topaz? I think the high street usually do most sizes.

It varies depending on the make/style and I'm at least a size larger up top than down under!! I also don't like things too fitted, unlike you. I find in most of QVC's ranges I'm an XL in tops/coats and L in trousers/skirts. On the high street - M&S for example - sometimes I can get away with a 20 top but usually for a bit of breathing space I'll go for a 22. I love Per Una but they only go up to 18 in tops. In trousers or skirts I usually take an 18. However shops like Top Shop rarely go beyond a 14/16. I know there are shops (Evans) that specialise in larger sizes and some franchises (Ann Harvey) in department stores, but they're not all local and if I do venture further afield it's always the case that what I like isn't available in my size or the colour I want. Hence, QVC, in my front room with the right sizes!!

Hi Topaz,
I know what you mean about the make and style as sizes do vary you are right there. Have you tried Evans at all? or John Lewis or Debehams? Or even Boutiques perhaps.

I like the Per Una range too. well I would say as long as you see something nice on QVC that you like and you are happy with it you may be better off shopping for your clothes with them as I can fully understand it must be difficult if these high street shops are not stocking your size - its silly really I don't know why shops cannot do all sizes. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
